What is micron size is best?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering what micron size screen do people use for their tubes? I think I heard most use 50 micron but is using 20 micron is 10 micron better? Worse? Or should I stick to just 50?

What micron size is a coffee filter? I heard 25 so that's why I was thinking of using 20 or 10 perhaps. That way I can use the same size for winterizing as well. I plan to use just stainless steel and cut out the coffee filters that's why I ask. Thanks everyone!

a coffee filter on it regardless.

Coffee filters are nominal filters, as opposed to absolute filters, but as T suggests, 25 microns is a good average. When I used open tubes, I used a double coffee filter over the flare end, held in place by a 200 thread count silkscreen, to guard against blowouts. Easier to handle and less prickly than a stainless screen.

I don't really need to worry about blow backs because I do the long soak method with the mason jar. I was planning on just cutting the stainless steel screen into a circle so I can remove the top and the screen as the lid if that makes sense.. Basically how the mason jar top is 2 piece, the screwing in/locking part and then the piece metal with the gasket. I plan to change the piece of metal with a gasket to a stainless steel mesh to make it easier to filter.

why do you choose to do butane soak instead of blasting through a tube? I've done both on the very few runs ive done, and am wondering what pros/cons of each method are.

Also - when you soak - how long do you soak your material in butane, and do you put it in the freezer when soaking?

I prefer the soak over the blast because it's easier for me to do (loading/unloading), I can put as much material as I'd like (If I wanna run 10g or 50g), I feel like I get the most of my material. I am someone who did many many qwISO so this one seemed closer to home if that made sense. I also found my yield better but that probably is due to packing but that's another reason why I like the soak.

I let my material usually only soak for 5-10 minutes, but I have had it soak for an hour. I do NOT put the jar in the freezer when soaking AND HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU DONT. That is just a accident waiting to happen. What I do, I have a bucket with ice. I just let it chill in the bucket with a wet rag on top.
