What light would you get?

Thanks for all the replies. I haven't purchased a light yet. I will this weekend. I'm leaning toward a 1k double ended hps with an air cooled hood. Unless someone talks me out of it.
I think that's the best way to go. You're gonna need a pretty decent reflector to cover that area, I'd look at the Raptor XXXL or something like that.

recently bought solis tek 600w air cooled hood, 4k 6k and 10k bulbs, and matrix dimmable ballast , upgraded from a usual 600w hps due to heat problems. my plants would always stop growing because of the temp in my room even worse for me when lived pretty far from my last grow room. anyway has anyone got feedback on this type of equipment. pretty new to this. :)

the new double ended Cmh looks bad ass. The technology is pretty new and i know it can be run in a 5x5 with out an issue.

After going to LEC i don't think im going back to hps. Only way would be if i could do 1000w double ended HPS. I just don't like paying for the extra air conditioning. If you go double ended hps how much height do you have?

Hey Growup hen ..... for what it's worth Crockett Farms uses the SolisTek's in their greenhouse.......freebies for ad purposes for sure.
YouTube video of Jorge Cervantes taking a tour and Crockett mentions the lights when JC asks about when no sun is out I stink.
I won in a raffle a 1k w SolisTek DE non vented hood with dimmable ballast and an 1k bulb that's new & still in the box(es).
IMHO truly commercial gear due to heat restrictions and such with no venting.
I'm not able to run either 1k setups I have due to heat radiation.
Maybe one day.........:bigjoint:
If I had the flow and need ...... I would invest in NextLight......very bare bones and less heat.

Are you talking about the lumen loss due to the glass? That's more than made up for by the fact that you can place the hood a lot closer to your plants, better penetration than non air cooled.
Loss from the Glass plus a loss from reducing the arc tube temperature from directly air cooling the lamp.
Hopefully the OP didn't get one of those Janky ass hoods that pass a flow of cold air directly over the DE Lamp - Big No No

I can't find the data but there was a loss of 10-15% I read from directly cooling the lamp.

As a matter of fact I did get an air cooled hood for a de bulb. %10 loss is negligible in my humble opinion. I needed a fixture and I didn't want to go with mogul base bulbs. I feel like I am further ahead for the small difference in price between mogul and double ended.

It may be more than 10% cooling a DE lamp directly. There is something to the lamp basically being a bare arc tube vs a Mogul lamp having an outer jacket providing "insulation" to the arc tube

I read on the Internet that there is a 10% loss. Lol. I believe everything I read on the internet. But really, I live in the northern latitudes and we seem to have more cold weather than warm weather. This winter I am planning on this light to keep my room warm and save on the heating bill. That's one of my reasons to get the de hood.

Yup, I saw a video just like that but he did a double ended bulb hood. The verdict is. Air cooled you loose some par but it's made up by the ability to put an air cooled light closer to your girls. Sounds like a win to me.
