Get a 600W HPS light. Most efficient for that size. Doesn't cost as much to run as some people think. About $20 a month.

i'd say a 400 or 6oo watter would be perfect for what your looking for.. there are a ton of online hydro stores that sell nice complete lighting systems.. i have had good luck using htg supply ( high tech garden supply).. they have good prices and ship pretty fast..
and no, those uv lights you have aren't the type you need for growing mj.. you want an metal halide for vegging and an hps for flowering, but you can use either an mh or an hps for both veg and flower and be ok... but nowadays, they make what are called convertible ballasts that you can use both mh and hps bulbs with, and are a really good investment as you only need one ballast for both type of bulbs..

yes HPS. and get a digital ballast with a MH and HPS bulb with a euro 6 air cooling hood. about 275 with shipping on HTG supply.

THIS is the one i have and looking about getting another

or if you have the cash get a 1000 watter. about $100 more and you could pull about 2 pounds from it. where you can get 1-1.5 pounds from the 600 watter.

you get about .5-1 gram a watt in soil and 1-2 watts per gram in DWC (hydro)

MH for veg and HPS for flowering. And you might want to consider side lighting if you're letting them getting 3-4 feet tall. I use CFLS. If I had money I'd do something better. LEDs could work and they have a thin profile in tight space.

shouldnt one 600 watt be enough for 2 or 3 plants? i was thinking of doing LST on them. just lay the plant on its side and let each branch act like tops. what do yall think

If you are only gonna grow small scale for yourself I would say LEDs sound like exactly what youre looking for... Low power consumption with better gram to watt ratio. It will also reduce any worries about heat. This is just my opinion but I also support the MH/HPS because we all know it works ;)

nah id go with the HID lighting. you will be way happier. and you dont need side lighting. yes one 600 will be sufficient for that. im just adding another to increase yield.

the one in my link is your best bet. if you have the money get that. dont go LED. IMO they are not to the point to where they can compare to the HID lighting.

i know how you feel. i been playing around with the aerogarden and now i think i need to step it up bc im not liking what im seeing from the aerogarden. prolly great to start some off in but not to completion:leaf::weed:

dont grow in an aerogarden. you will get nothing but disappointment. IMO soil and bubbleponics are the easiest to grow in and get great results. if you do soil, go organic. way better smoke. atleast your flowering nutes should be organic.
