What's the hype with autos?

I get how they work. I get that they don't have to be under 12/12. But my only tent with suitable lights also houses my Photos. It has been suggested to me that whilst it isn't perfect Autos will happily work under 12/12. It is just a stop gap until I have enough photos to fill my new tent. It is also an experiment. If I like what I see I might go over to all autos and run them 18/6. We'll see what happens.
So if your 12/12 autos do good you will switch over? You’ve clearly done 0 research.

Gotta have a laugh at some of the ideas about autos...Growing them for over 15 years, I've seen so many changes in the auto gene pool, some better than others and some have led to bad press....
When autos were first introduced, they were small in order to hide among other foliage. Super autos were a thing as breeders tried to improve by adding various photo traits...so then began the bastardization of the true auto world. Sure, now they're more potent and yeilds are much better but all the variations now can be a bit overwhelming and prone to failed grows due to unstable genetics. Stick with reputable breeders and check as much lineage as you can and autos have their place.
The real plus to me was the NON-REQUIREMENT of specific lighting...Oh I run a photo alongside my autos , of course on 12/12 and 15 years of doing it hasn't shown me any reason to change. I may miss a little yeild but I also miss out on the cost incurred.

Why would you do that ? I think you might be confused how auto's work. Just leave them on 18/6 lighting or up to a full 24 hours lighting for their life cycle. Auto's don't need a 12/12 and will flower on it's own terms regardless of what light cycle you put them on. So don't starve them with 12/12, feed them as much light as possible.

I actually think they have a ton of potential and are going to be a decent harvest. They are still full of white pistols sticking strait out, she's got lots of time yet to fatten up. I wouldn't even start to think about trichs until 95% of those white pistols have shriveled up and turn brown.
Here’s pics I just now took. What do you think?

I might well do. It is very tempting. I have actually done shed loads of research.

I have been growing for 20+ years. I have seen and done all sorts of daft stuff. When I started the internet was this thing that you went on occasionally, it was very slow, expensive and information on growing weed was sparse. You had to rely on yourself and there was a fair degree of trial and error. I have read lots of information telling me what I am going to try is a waste of time and won't work. I have also read lots of information telling me it will work just fine. So the only way I am going to find out is try.

The real plus to me was the NON-REQUIREMENT of specific lighting...Oh I run a photo alongside my autos , of course on 12/12 and 15 years of doing it hasn't shown me any reason to change. I may miss a little yeild but I also miss out on the cost incurred.
This is my reasoning. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I have space for 4. Having this space empty is costing me money. The seeds have cost me less than £30, the grow mix I put them in will cost me less than £5. Last time I checked mediocre street weed was selling at £10 for 1 gram, so by my reasoning I have to have these Autos produce 3.5g total for me to break even. That should be easy enough. I have a feeling I am going to make around 14g a plant which will be a net profit of £245.

Autos are extremely fast growing and producing up to 29% thc in 6-7 weeks.
6-7 weeks full cycle with mature trichomes?

It can be done, but not always with best result.
Fine. What point is there to clone an Auto? To have a clone incite flower when the plant has no roots? All you do is decreasing harvest - by much. And the guy you responded to mentioned a mother... how do you do that with an auto? Let's say you have done a phenorun with 100 genetics and want to keep the best to grow this one for a year. Can this be pulled off with an Automatic?

BTW photos can be run 12/12fs and will flower 3 weeks in, sooner than most automatics...

I was given 4 white widow seedlings because a new grower started to many not knowing what he was doing. I’m growing them, and they’re budding, but I won’t do it again. Seem inconsistent to me. I posted earlier, but I’ve got one the buds won’t firm up. I’ve never grown autos before, and won’t again.
Your plant is starving in nutes, esp. N, but other stuff as well.

I feed almost every watering. I’ve never had that problem before, but I’ve never grown autos either. I’ll have to step up the nitrogen. The leaf tips started to burn, so I was using half strength.

FWIW I'm on my 4th auto grow in a 14x24" footprint cabinet DWC and am averaging 4 oz. every 60 days. I have been pleased with potency and flavor on all but one of them so far. I am currently on day 58 on a White Russian auto (see below). YMMV, IMHO, etc.

I started with Autos for one simple reason, I only had one tent. It allowed me to put lights on an 18/6 light cycle and do multiple strains. When one finished earlier than the others it could be replaced with another plant since autos kept the same light cycle the whole time. The big problem I found with autos is there is a ton of crap genetics out there so I switched to Photo plants. When you have your first auto that won't start flowering you will know what I am talking about. I am still going to grow the auto seeds I accumulated, just going to use them for outdoor grow at cottage, with the shorter summers in Canada I think there may be an advantage to them.

Humbolt seed organization... barney's farm..etc.. you have to spend money on good genetics and it's not a problem

I don't disagree, problem is there are tons of seed banks and everyone doesn't know the ins and outs of them in the beginning. Now all my seeds come from reputable breeders but when starting out I knew no better.
