I hate white people trying to be black, thats totaly all show.they want to be ghetto so bad.fucking fags.my kid ever comes home with that shit Ill back slap his ass.wonder how these kids turn out. fucking ate- ups
i know i said i'd say something funny...but exactly what do you mean by "acting black"? I know plenty of black people i grew up with who don't have riches bitches and rims, I know alot of white people who don't either, I grew up in the slums, where me and my cousins were the lightest family for 5 miles around, i never once saw a gangbanger (not a real one anyway...) walking around with diamond fronts, cruising thru the jects in a porsche, it doesn't matter what color you are, they're acting like fuckin fakes, thats it.

I'm arabic/german, i look white to most people, and i got a lot of shit for how i dress and talk, how i listen to hip hop instead of pop-rock music. it's where i grew up, I wasn't trying to be another color, i was poor. i wasn't in tennis clubs, or country clubs, i played ball on the street with everyone else in my neighborhood, we were on welfare and it was a survival situation, i hate when people accuse someone of trying to act another color, just because they think your skin tone dictates how you should grow up, luckily I'm not in that situation anymore, but a lot of my family is still out there struggling, I don't ever look at my cousins and think they're trying to be black or white or whatever, the people in those pics are exactly like the thing they wear, jewelry, tans, everything is fake. Fuck a color.

Living a real and honest lifestyle is different from these nerds sitting behind the computers typing like they are black.

I should have made it a little more clear that was the point of this thread.

Lik in your case for example if you grow up in the hood chances are your going to at least act somewhat hood. Thats expected and fine with me but Like I said im just mocking these damn kids typing on these forums like ass's.

The kids acting all tough on the forums are the same douchebags that you'll see on the street and they'll be with 20 other douchebags and go "what'd you say?!" or my favorite "nigga what you lookin at?!" and try to start shit with people who did nothing wrong to them. Oh wait, the kids acting tough on the forums aren't even as bad ass as those kids, nevermind :-?

nah i see what ya saying i was just trying to figure out what "acting black" is because like i said I grew up in an all black neighborhood, and never saw my neighbors doing the stupid shit these kids do, i have however seen Puerto rican kids, white kids, mexican kids and asians doing it with quite a bit of frequency, so i didnt understand how they were acting black, i just think it doesn't need to be so vague, like why cant we just call them idiots and laugh about it, instead of making it color based, not bashing or calling anyone a racist....everyone says it, but it doesn't mean it's accurate....just my 2 cents

Everyone loves stereotypes though. We live our live by stereotypes. It's hard for someone to dissociate their thinking from the everyday stereotypes when everybody goes along with them and kids like these are promoting them by playing them up. And you're right they aren't "acting black" by doing that because there are white, yellow, brown, purple, etc people who live in ghettos too. It's just like when people say someone's jewish for being cheap. People think they are harmless stereotypes

^ that's hilarious.

So far as the 'acting black' thing goes: the style of dress, speech, etc. these kids affect is (or at least started as) a direct emulation of Black culture, or more specifically, the sub-set of hip hop and street elements of Black culture (there's a whole lot more to it than that) as filtered through commercial channels starting in the late 80's / early 90's.

These days I'm not sure if the direct association/emulation thing is valid, it seems like the style has simply spread too widely, past the point of borrowing to large scale adoption across the youth of various ethnicities and class positions.

Is rap still 'Black?' Should it be?

I said, Elvis Presley ain't got no soul (huh)
Chuck Berry is rock and roll (damn right)
You may dig on the Rolling Stones
But they ain't come up with that style on they own (uh-uh)
Elvis Presley ain't got no SOULLLL (hell naw)
Little Richard is rock and roll (damn right)
You may dig on the Rolling Stones
But they ain't come up with that shit on they own (nah-ah)

Guess that's just the way shit goes
You steal my clothes and try to say they yo's (yes they do)
Cause it's a show filled with pimps and hoes
Tryin to take everything that you made or control (there they go)
Elvis Presley ain't got no SOULLLL
Bo Diddley is rock and roll (damn right)
You may dig on the Rolling Stones
But they ain't the first place the credit belongs
I find these kinds of photos etc. to be hilarious on a personal level--suburban kids taking it way over the top--but it's good to keep the larger context in mind.

Hey cut the Stones some slack here, They were really good about credit! Even had Howling Wolf on Shindig to open for them. Zep on the other were royality thieves, claimed to write "Killing Floor" etc. They owe Willy Dixon's estate money in my opinion!!

Agreed. The Stones did better on that account that a lot of their contemporaries, including Zep. Anyway I love the Stones, Zeppelin, Clapton, etc. but Mos Def still has a point.

I saw BB King a few weeks ago. What an immense talent--it's hard to see him have to sit down the whole show but he can still play like a house on fire.

Well,of course Rock'n' Roll was built on the blues, I'm just saying the Stones were not the worst offenders here. They, at least, made an effort, unlike others who gleefully stole the writing credits amd royalty payments. Let's face it Willy Dixon wrote most of those songs didn't he?? And because the Stones gave proper credit they turned me on to people like Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf and for that ,among other reasons ,I dig them a lot. Have since 1964!!

Yeah, I wasn't really trying to attack classic rock acts, my point was simply that this cycle of appropriation has been seen before. Different music, maybe not your taste, but I'd expect plenty of people who mock white kids into rap are entirely uncritical of the appropriation underlying their own favorite music.

That said, photos of some of these kids are hilarious. And the chemical tan kids are kind of a different subculture anyway. I'm not sure who the hell they're trying to emulate.

Muddy Waters is one of my favorite musicians of all time. I'm thinking you've seen some good shows over the years, my friend.
