Where do amber trichomes first appear? Pics Inc

last 15% I pickd and smoked the other day ...


no realy ..rest is clear .. but I guess a good drying and cureing and I have mostly milky and amber .. I hope ?

Mine are near enough all milky. Surely some amber ones will appear within the week and if so would that mean im only about a week away from harvest from my first amber? If that is the case then I should definately just use plain water as it would mean they're no further than 2 weeks away from harvest. Also are they obvious to spot with a X30 magnifier?

well it depense how you like your smoke ..

some would haverst now I guess .. but only a few .. and only them who like a high feeling ..

them who wait later .. maybe 50% amber ..get a heavy stone ..

I like it some wher in the middel .. also some top buds will mostlikely be way ahead and bottom is maybe not so mouch ..

I read some wher that sciens have show that milky thricomes have most THC and that is what you schould aim for ..

but its hard to get all milky and no amber or clear .. so I guess some wher in the middle and you cant go totaly wrong either .. as a newbie ..

so after a good advice from a friend in here (Whitch Doctor) I began to prepare for haverst when I saw fist amber one (prepare = a littel flush and only clean water for a week and then 2 days dark time)

and the day I cut the light I had around 5% amber ..

seems to be pretty mouch spot on .. 2 days before the seed company say ..
guess I could have let em go them 2 days more and even 4 .. but with high temps and no smok and new baybies on the way it was a easy dessision and the smok is great so fare ..

Good going Slipon. How many plants did you grow and what strain? What lights did you use?

I'll keep to your advice and just prepare for harvest when I see the first amber trichome. If I dont see any by next feed (tuesday) I think i'll give her 1/4 strength nutes as she's just had bio boost the past 2 feeds due to nutrient build up.

2 Voilator Kush in 7 gallon pots .. 6-7 weeks Veg under my 29K Lumens T5HO and then 8 weeks under a 600W HPS ..

had some high temps along the way .. plus a few minor stuff like rootbound early in veg .. but I learnd a lot on my fist 3 months of indoor growing ..

Guess what?

I finally spotted my first few amber trichomes!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was only 3 on a sugar leaf but its definately a good sign! Im just going to give it a flush on wednesday, then harvest a week later. Hopefully by then I will have plenty more visible amber trichomes!

Mine tend to start on the bottom and work they way up the bud. Not the plant but each bud

Old School teaching was to start looking at the center of the plant. In the middle of a middle branch..

so Im done drying .. steams snaps .. so got em on jars for cureing ..

still only see like 5% amber .. but the smoke is great .. allready tast good and give a nice high followed by a stoned feeling ..
only thing is that it dont last that long .. a hour or two .. then i need a bong head more .. or two

but cureing might improve it even more .. I bet ..

going in ther is about 5 oz roughly (also smoked about 10g allready )

one plant gave maybe 3oz and other 2oz .. after fist two weeks of curing i bet its more like 4oz in total ..

80% of them is top/middel buds and is pretty dense/hard .. rest is a bit light (maybe one jar in total) but ok smoke ..

beside that I have like 15g of pop corn buds and a bunch of sugar leaves/cuttings I will make Kif of ..


so all in all a avages haverst I guess .. not totaly great but solidt and smoke is good .. and with all considerd .. high temp and root bound .. Im happy and as its strickly for personal use I dont care so mouch about a few fox taling and the fact that the buds still have like 10% sugar leaves left .. I hate to manicure and I dont mind smokeing a littel if buds are cured good ..

I've started to notice more amber trichomes appearing. Im going to harvest them next weekend. I could wait longer but the smell is stressing me out and I want to enjoy summer haha. I'll probably end up with about 5% amber like you. I definately wont get 5oz though. I would consider myself extremely lucky to get 2-3oz for my first grow considering its with Cfl's, Organic and I made plenty of newbie mistakes.

Im going to change a couple of things:

Bigger intake hole
A proper extractor fan
Train them early
Scrog them
And most importantly....a good carbon filter.

All my other problems I learnt how fix along the way. 3oz should see me through a grow but Im aiming for 4+oz from 2 plants my next time. Fingers crossed haha.

and now most are milky and the fist amber did show up a week ago or so .. and 3 days ago I had maybe 5% amber and 5% clear and rest is cloudy/milky ..

so I gave em the last good watering and 2 days more light .. and now on the 3th day I let em stay in the dark for 36-48 hrs (when I get up sunday morning)


hope I get some good smoke .. fist time I haverst base on thricomes ..

back in the days we haverst based on the brown/oranges hairs .. did`t know anything about thricomes .. tho I reccon our 5% THC pot wouldnt have shown many thricomes anyway (note: this was back in the days when internet and Femi seeds and stuff like that was`t around)


now a question .. as I understand the amber is just the color the fruit gets when its realy mature ..
so will it get more amber after dry/cureing ? will it continue to mature ? like a tomato or bananna etc. ?

Oh how I remember the first MJ we got that had all these red hairs. Called it "Red Hair" Colombian. Same as you, we hadn't a clue about Trichomes and thought the red hairs were a sign of quality, potency.
On a lighter note, about Trichomes and such, I have a lady outdoors now (I grow Hydro) just for the fun of it. She is approaching a year old and is starting her build up of Trichomes, Pistils and etc. The thing I've just noticed is that the Trichomes are about 1/2 like they normally appear on the sugar leaves BUT there's another 1/2 of them that are like 2X longer/taller with huge bulbous ends. It is like they are competing with the others for light because they really are 2X larger. Amazing. It is a Master Bubba Kush. I wish I could take a picture from the microscope I have but the camera I have is older and is a USB-1 and my computer (Vista) won't recognize it.

Cool deal man, will you being updating with pics? I'll definitely check back in. If you can put aside a little extra cash, I think you'd like the results of adding a 250hps and using 6500k cfls as supplemental lighting for the next round. Not sure what the specs of you're setup are, but adding a decent sized HID has a pretty solid bump in yield compared to cfls.

Yeah I will definately give you an update with pics in a week or so. I have thought about upgrading to a hps, but I would have to buy a new light,ballest and cool shade which would set me back atleast $100 on top of the other things im going to buy. Im going to see how I get along with my next grow and if I dont reach the magic 4oz I may invest in a Hps light. I have a friend who's about to start there first grow around the same time I will be starting my second. They have a similar set-up to mine,so if they do really well I'll get one. Or just beg for some green from them haha.

Im considering starting a journal for my second grow but I know I get lazy (stoned) and wont update unless I notice significant progress haha.

but I guess its viserble and show that my top buds now have +20% Amber after the dry ..
belive it might be more after the cure .. if Im right .. my friend was also right in adviceing me to pepare for haverst when I saw fist amber ..

a total of 5 grams .. would cost me between 50$ and 120$ depending on quality .. I dont belive I could buy it for less then 75$ and with 20x as many top buds and the same in flimsy/smaller buds I schould have enough untill my next patch is ready .. witch is 3 weeks in now .. so them +5 oz just have to last me like 10-12 weeks ..

still think I will buy a littel hash now and then .. so I make it last Im sure ..

Hey guys,

Just a quick update:

I've started the 48hrs of darkness and shall be harvesting in a couple of days. I was gonna wait another week, but all the leaves were going yellow and some brown after I flushed on wednesday so I thought fuck it i'll harvest them now.

Im so excited, the crazy thing is they ripened quicker than expected the past week and now I have to harvest them on my b-day! It must be fate haha.

Well its been the longest 4 and a half months of my life but im just a couple of days away from harvesting my first grow ever! I will update with plenty of pics once they are in the curing jars in a week or so.
