Will wood rot?

Grow it and roll it!

Hey, I am brand new to this forum, and I have never tried growing before. (Just figured I'd put that out there lol) But I'm thinking of building essentially a big wooden box to use for the grow area, and I was wondering if the humidity in the "grow room" would make the wood rot? There will be plenty of ventilation just f.y.i., but still...

Thanks in advance,
new fellow grower

eventually if you spill alot or have high humidity it could but itll take years. If worried use a wood sealenat like deck sealent then paint it flat white for reflectivity

ok cool, so it sounds like humidity and water in excess will make it rot. I'll just have to keep it ventilated! Thanks for the replies everyone!

The biggest concern with wood is that it has the potential to harbor disease and mildew due to the fact that it is fairly porous. You should choose a high-quality wood, such as redwood, that has not been treated with any potentially hazardous chemicals because often times these can be damaging to your plants. Keep your room tidy in order to avoid a disease outbreak. I went the cheap route with my greenhouse and paid for it in the end.

jeeze... Ya I don't want any harmful organisms attacking my plants. I'm not really completely set on using wood yet, I just really want to make a stealth, maybe micro grow. Just enough yield to get the amount I'm looking for. I was checking out the CPU micro grow and I'm really interested in that, but we'll see where it goes

hey i recently starting building my own grow box and I'm using pvc pipe to make the frame then attaching weather stripping to that then wrapping the frame in sunleaves black/white poly... its not all that expensive or difficult to build all u need is the pvc, some garage door weather stripping, pvc connecters, pvc glue, the sunleaves poly stuff, then a zipper to make an entrance...its easy to ventilate I'm sure u can figure that out pretty easily...just thought i'd share my plans with...as far as wood goes it depends on what u use I worked construction and I've seen some wood rot pretty quickly but whoever recommended the sealant was pointing u in the right direction
