Ty! Should there be a fear or precaution of PH fluctuation at such an early age? Assuming I should just ensure that i'm getting at least 10-15% run off? I plan on hand watering the center for the first 7-10 days daily

.Smoke I have been following your hempy for some time (and admire your work). Is this your Swampy build?

Just make sure your ph is good when you water and you should be good.

Yes, the swamp bucket is my 100% automated hydroton/hempy site that you can germinate in. I've been working for about a year to get it up and running. Was worth the effort though. All I do now is put a seed in rockwool, mix my nute reservoirs and harvest when they're done. The system does the rest.

So i got stem/root rot in a 3L young plant about 3 nodes high. i'm not questioning my watering. should i be watering everyday at that stage to provide oxygen rich water? and then when plant is bigger and is drinking more i can leave for 2-3 days? thanks hempsters

How do you know its root rot?

Man I was on the fence this morning about switching the flower room back to jack's 5-12-26 and I pulled the trigger. I can't help but keep thinking how much better the quality of the pot was in both flavor and burn qualities with jack's versus maxi. The only reason I ever switched to maxi is because I was under the impression I might have been missing something by not using a cannabis specific fertilizer. Not only was my GPW ratio better with jack's, but the pot burned and tasted better. I feel like a real heal for taking this long to get back to jack's.

I'll add something more to this statement. About 12 years ago when I was cruising the RIU and ICMAG forums a lot trying to learn how to grow good pot. A feller named "Uncle Ben" on ICMAG was an old timer that constantly preached the gospel of all purpose jack's from start to finish. Bloom fertilizer? What the hell are you talking about? That's what Uncle Ben would have said to you if you asked him, "what kind of bloom fertilizer do you recommend?" He said the industry has created this false idea that plants need a completely different nutrient profile when they start spitting out flowers. Uncle Ben said it's a lie that keeps being repeated because it's so goddam profitable for the fertilizer companies. Uncle Ben grew in soil and used jack's all purpose 20-20-20 start to finish. He even used some of jack's other all purpose fertilizer's with different NPK ratios, but he never switched his crops to a "bloom fertilizer" at any point. His plants looked amazing all the way until harvest.

I think UB is correct. There is no need for loading the plant with P & K in flower. They need access to it, but they don't need to have inordinately large amounts of it. Sure the flowers will absorb the shit and grow if you give it to them, but the burn qualities will suffer as will the flavor. It's the wrong approach. Why did my jack's taste better? That's a question I had to ask myself. It's a balanced fertilizer, and I never switched to a bloom fertilizer high in P and K. I just reduced the calcium nitrate after week 6 and increased the jack's, but I ran the same EC of 1.6.

Today I mixed up 3g jack's and 2g calcium nitrate. 647PPM on the 500 scale. The guru's over at ICMAG preached time and time again that jack's 5-12-26 at 600PPM start to finish is a golden recipe. I'm excited to see how the girls respond over the next few days and I will post pics for better or worse. I believe jack's is the way forward. The best hydroponic hempy pot I ever grew and smoked was grown in jack's 5-12-26 with absolutely no bloom fertilizer of any kind. I believe I did use floralicous plus during that grow which is a seaweed liquid fertilizer with a very low npk ratio. I am not using that this time. I believe it is unnecessary.
The only reason for a more specific nutrient during flower is the plants FAR LESS need for that amt of nitrogen...Jacks is a good formula....a 20-20-20 WILL cause some stored/unnecessary nitrogen....You would have to pay a lot more attention to clean out, but will probably still havena lot of green in your plants at harvest....Fact being though that cannabis DOES NOT need the enhanced flower nutrients....A good choice (my personal) is the Dyna line of nutes...good prices and they have FOLIAGE PRO that many are now using start to finish with excellent results....Too many snake oils on the market!!!!!!!!!!!!....YT

I add 3ml/gallon 34% h202 to every reservoir fill for sterility and prevention of root rot. If you have root rot h202 at that rate will correct it within 7 days. Failure to sterilize your water will cause you nothing but problems. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

This is all wrong. A young plant in a 3L should not need water everyday. Hempy basics....... water then let the rez go dry then water again, make the roots seek out the rez this small delay in growing speed will pay off later with a better root set. If you follow this basic rule then there is no need for H2O2 because the rez is empty and short term.

That's a nice looking room, and it's very likely at this stage you'll need to water everyday. Are those plants in 3 liter pots?
That was from my last harvest. That's all chopped down sitting in inventory :)
5 gallon pots, however I would opt for 10 gallon / liter containers moving forward if I continued to veg plants at that size. Several I had to water twice per day. It took about 1.5 gallons to get runoff. That's how massive and thirsty the root system was. I start them in my 27 gallon clone tote. They go into 1.8l trash cans from the dollar store that I convert into hempy buckets. They chill in those for 3-4 weeks while they build a massive swath of roots. Then they go into their final homes in the 5 gallon buckets. I'm keeping most of them smaller this cycle, but I got this monster critical mass that's a real motherfucker. Just stripped her down last week and topped the shit out of it. As you can see she's close to the light. 16 weeks veg. The root system is fucking massive. She was drinking a gallon twice per day prior to the defoliation. Since defoliation she transpires much less. Once per day is what she needs now. Love me some hempy baby! Just make sure you run a good fertilizer like jack's 321. Your choice of fertilizer in hydroponics is crucial. I ran GH maxi bloom for 5 cycles after trying jack's thinking I'd get bigger flowers or some shit. Yield went down slightly and the flowers tasted like chemicals and were harsh. With jack's 321 on that most recent harvest you see pictured above the flowers are so flavorful I haven't experienced anything like this since I grew in dirt. Jack's for the money shot baby! And it's cheap too. Why the fuck use anything else? ;)

I really appreciate growers who want to build monster plants. Thats a lot of work for a 5gal container. I've reverted to smaller plants and quicker grows. I've used Jack's many times and I believe it to be the best dry fert, have a couple of tubs in the grow room.

Here's a quick hempy grow crib note style. I had a Bay-11 hermie on me a couple grows back and it seeded up everything in the room I really liked the Knock out Kush and Bay-11 is my fav so I grew out this new cross, I knew better but I did anyways.
Here's how the grow went. Went back to the method that works the best for me and needs the least amount of work on my part. Started seeds in solo cups of straight FFOF for a couple of weeks then into 1/2gal pots of FFOF and 1 tbsp Osmocote plus. spent about a month in 1/2gal pots. Transplanted into final 2gal bucket. Bucket build with real chunky perlite in the rez then a thin soil layer to keep the OC+ prils out of the rez. Soil core dropped in with "Grow Stones" (just glorified couch cushion foam chunks) up and around all the other soil with 3 tbsps of OC+ spread out in the mix then capped with a couple inches of soil.
20210328_201316_HDR.jpg20210328_203015_HDR.jpg March 8th going into buckets
Then a couple wks or so to let the roots hit rez and flip to flower.
With OC+ and the soil in the bucket my watering is every 5days to start in the end it will be every other day. 50/50 RO and tap a couple ml cal/mag, 6 drops Floralicious plus per gallon ph'ed to 6.2 ish. I do add a drop of Superthrive to every gal during veg and will all add 1/4 tsp of Cha-Ching PK boost during the mid flower wks.
Went with new lights this grow, threw out the warn out (2) 400W CMH bulbs and went with 3 new 315W CMH bulbs. Spectrum isn't as good but they preformed well.
Have to say I neglected the hell out of this grow except for daily ball picking during wk 3 and into 4. Otherwise I'd check on them every other day at best.

P1090669.JPG 4/26
P1090684.JPG 5/8 a couple of wks before Harvest
harvest start.jpg Just starting to trim

So I know I've got a lot of seeds most will be on the lower half of the plants. And unless the smoke is fantastic I'll not be growing this cross again.
About 8 oz in the jar and 2 1/2 oz in the hash bin, all for less than $2/bucket.

you have any pH issues with the coco? i never tried coco in a hempy
I have a brick of canna coco I'd love to try, but hearing all this shit about charging it with ca and mg really turns me off. @OJAE - Do you just rinse your coco and roll on if using quality coco or does it all require the ca and mg charge after the rinse? I'd love to try coco in a couple hempies to see how it works. Dirt cheap stuff, and the roots grow through the whole container versus only the reservoir with perlite. Plus the coco has a wicking effect whereas perlite has no wicking effect. Thanks for sharing your $.02.

NICE JOB!!! use a perlite/vermiculite mix at a rate of 3:1 perlite:Vermiculite, and lately even like it 4:1 perlite dominant....The vermiculite has the wicking but it really not necessary too much...Getting top watered....The pores in the perlite hold quite a bit of water....Once your roots are set, their getting most of their water from the buckets internal rez....All the other roots spread thru the medium take moisture, but are acting more to anchor the plant...
I put 2.5 inches of red lava rock in the bottom of my buckets to act as the HIGHLY aerated rez...As the water gets depleted, there is a ton of air is sucked into the area btwn chunks of lava rock, not to mention how porous it is........When I dump out old mix, there is 'mat' of roots that reach that lava rock and an pile up thick on TOP of it...The roots dont really care to go INTO the standing water and then pile up on the bottom of the bucket, so they reach that lava rock and turn horizontal, spiral and make a thick mat right on top of it.....Just the root tips drop just far enuf into the lava rock bed to drink.....I have used this method successfully for a VERY LONG TIME....I use to even put a single air stone at the base of each bucket, but dont get THAT MUCH extra return for that effort.....Having your watering routine down to a science, for each stage of the plants life serves just as well.....NO RECIPE OF ONES SYSTEM can be used for another, UNLESS its identical in every way...bucket size, light intensity, temps, etc....Everyone needs to tune in their own system....People ask me how often I water, how much, and so on, but thats FOR MY SYSTEM....I use 3 gal utilty buckets (same as 5 gal but shorter)...I run 1000w HID lighting and find myself watering every 3 days till late veg, where it changes to every other day....
Never tried Coco...It does require the extra step of Pre-buffering with calmag due the the cation exchange properties of it (how it holds cal,mg, na and P ions)....Perlite and Vermiculite dont come with CEC issues...BOTH also inexpensive as coco coir and works TO PERFECTION....'un-cut' Coco is WAY TO WET of a medium for my liking....IF I DID USE IT, IT WOULD CUT IT 50% WITH PERLITE TO MAKE IT A DRIER MIX....It certainly IS A VIABLE choice for medium though....I just like to keep things simple as possible....So many pics, I dont even know where to start sharing them, but heres a cpl bud pics and overall crop pics (20sqft closet)...YT20201005_220445(1)_Signature.jpg15375588684322981970464058876864~2_Signature.jpg20210108_214613_(1)_Signature.jpg20210106_232208_(1)_(1)_Signature.jpg20210416_014617.jpg20210622_233736_(1)_Signature.jpg20210705_185514.jpg20210628_222255_(1)_Signature_Signature_(1)_Signature.jpg20201005_220445(1)_Signature.jpg15375588684322981970464058876864~2_Signature.jpg20210108_214613_(1)_Signature.jpg20210106_232208_(1)_(1)_Signature.jpg20210416_014617.jpg20210622_233736_(1)_Signature.jpg20210705_185514.jpg20210628_222255_(1)_Signature_Signature_(1)_Signature.jpgScreenshot_2020-09-12-22-35-34(1)_Signature.pngScreenshot_20210701-173720_(1)_Signature.png
