Just when I thought my autoflower grow was going good I went to harvest and guess what?

SEEDS!!!

Damn it I feel like such a nOob...well I am...DUH!
Apparently one or more of them turned HERMIE!
All 4 girls got pollinated . I missed it. I don't know how but I know what to look for now.
I didn't pay enough attention underneath.

It looks like the lower part of the plants took the brunt of it. When looking down from the top on the buds they seem fine.
I plan on making oil mostly anyway so I guess I am "okay".
Some seeds I popped out look pretty well developed

I'm just removing the fan leaves, cutting the branches and laying them in my dry rack.
No reason to manicure now?

Are these seeds of any value?

What to do now?

Damn it I'm bummed.

The seeds are no good Imo. probably more likely to herm.

About 6 weeks in I noticed balls on my lower branches and picked them off. i expect seeds too.

Next time I'll add side lighting, or lollipop.

My canopy covered the floor like yours, making lower growth suffer.

Ps. I've spent more money than id like to admit on seeded bud. It always did the trick.

I am on other forums and everyone says don't worry. It's still gonna be good and maybe extra resin for when I make oil.
I am not as bummed now.

Just like Mexican brick weed it will be good right ? ? there is nothing wrong with a little snap , crackle or pop in a party joint , i always found making sure that you just place seeds in different places actually it gets pretty exciting waiting on who is going to get the pop haha..
Personally i am not a fan of feminized seeds its a basterdization of marijuana ,,
As many can see the increase not only last couple of years but pretty much when feminized seeds came out people getting mutant plants , hermies nanners etc when you bottle neck a strain what else is there to be expected

If your girls are already pollinated, there is nothing to do now but finish the harvest and enjoy the crappy smoke. I've had plants hermie on me before but I always managed to catch it in time... just take a razor blade and cut off the male bits... to be clear if your plant has hermied the final flavour/smoke will be affected by the hormonal changes in the plant anyways - removing the pollen sacks will only stop seed production.

I like what you said about mutant plants because of feming. It really makes sense. I got a few hermies. It was always a fem seed. Regulars I always got a straight male. Well a male plant that is. What I once thought was great is turning not so good.

People have become Hypocrites Bashing GMO / Monsanto but on other hand buy Fem seeds that are GMO if you really think about it .
breeders use STS , or other means / chemical enhancement interesting Eh..
Then you get the breeders the force hermie plants well when you break it down only thing they did was .
Activate the hermie GENE in the genetics ,, and now its active and anything forward will have a likely hood to change on you ..
Feminized seeds in all seriousness,,,, has only made things worse. What once was thought to help a new grower's , from selection of male or female to save them the hassle to give them a germ rate of a percentage better then 50 / 50 its really what its all about
But really what the breeder did was bottle neck the strain by feminizing it ,, meaning he took half of the gene pool and cut it in half

So true
It is harder to grow a FEM. I'm growing one now. To a mother plant. Then I will flower the clones I take right away. Hoping I get perfect single buds. Not a plant messed up. Sometimes its harder than it seems.

Its not that Fem is harder to grow what its off spring will slowly deteriorate here this is how it works
When the genes of two plants meet, the chromosomes all get thrown into a proverbial bag, shaken well, and thrown out in different combination.
The resulting progeny show characteristics of both plants in various ways.
Often times when recombining two plants that are polar opposites of one another, ie...a short season indica and a long flowering sativa, the resulting progeny will often show a good high degree of hybrid vigor and health.

On the other hand, if we breed two sibling plants, or plants of the same strain, the resulting progeny are far less diverse. A continuation of generation of a cross of similar genetics can eventually run into a phenomenon of inbreeding depression. The genetic material available (or lack of) for each subsequent breeding can lead the plant to less vigor and sometimes mutations that were once latent, can now show themselves.

When we force a female to pollinate herself, she has a stand of DNA that contains her genes, which is bred to an identical strand of genes. If we think about it, we have cut the available genetic material in half when we self a female. And the result can often times lead to the inbreeding depression I mentioned.

Yes, the two genetic maps of a forced female and herself are identical, but they get shaken up in the proverbial bag I mentioned, and the result can be close to the original but not always. It will depend on how the shake out takes.
Thing is, we have shorted ourself genetic material when we create an S1 and luck must be with us if we are to hope to get seeds that will be identical to the mother and donor.
And we will still need to do a grow and selection of the progeny to find the ones that shook out similar to the moms. We simply can't trust that S1 seeds will result in the same plant. Chances are there that it can, but also that it won't.

A pollination for R1 seeds is almost identical to using a full on male for pollination. Therecombination will take place exactly the same, only there will be no male chromosome to work with.

In the same bag of seeds I buy I see differences. Only way to not have those differences is to clone once you found the right one. Its getting to the right one thats hard. With the different phenotypes in the same bag.

This Noobie (me) likes all the choices. Just want reliability in crop return seed by seed.

I have experience in the other options of what to do with messed up plants. I just want to get good returns now. Gumby hash is great and all. I just want some good bud to toke.

I'm still getting piles of sticky stinky buds.
The tops aren't too badly seeded. The lower section flowers I'll make FECO and CocoOil with.

I trimmed all 4 girls and they are all hung up to dry.
I think the hermie was one of my Fast &Vast from Heavyweight Seeds. She had by far the most seeds. Still gooey and sticky. In fact my 2 Fast & Vast plants were way stronger smelling and sticky then my 2 Northern Lights.

I don't know if those are seeds or calyx swelling. If it was noticeable in week 6 when you took that picture, I think they are calyx and not seeds. But then again, I can't really see clearly in the picture.

I harvested them today. They have seeds. I'll be more vigilant next grow.

Same thing happened to me with my latest grow (PDXA). However i thought it was just swollen calyxes, upon closer inspection when i split the calyxes open i found tiny (i mean really tiny) what looked like seeds. I just thought it was the plants natural backup mechanism. Because its obvious the plant didnt take too much energy into making the seeds or they would be much larger and defined. So if your experiencing the same thing i am, i think your good. But if your seeds look viable then maybe some kind of herming happened.

Thanks for the response unfortunately the seeds on my plants look viable. I have one plant that has much more than the others.

Its all good bro.

The weed will be fine still. Its still homegrown, which basically guarantees higher quality than that stuff from the street or dispensary.

You can pick through the buds and remove seeds. Remember which plant the seeds came from so they can be properly labeled. And your next run maybe pop a few seeds...

I currently have two batches of bag seed going, well maybe three. I have 2x Gorilla Fuck x GG4 in flower right now. I've been checking for balls but none yet. I have 2x in flower that are seeds from GG4. My last flower run I did all GG4, one plant had balls and pollinated a few others. I got some really nice seeds from those... Those 2x GG4 bag seed are keepers so far. They'll be revegged in an attempt to salvage the genetics. I've also got a GG4 bag seed in veg, she's looking strong.

So, having seeds isn't a curse. I've got three plants in flower right now that were unintentionally pollinated by a male. No biggie, more seeds for next year!

The issue is figuring out who threw balls, and for what reason. Then deciding if the risk of future hermies is worth the risk of finding a pot o gold in a seed.

For me the trade off is worth it. I had bunches of GG4 seed and GG4 crosses, of course I'm gonna pop a couple and see what I got! Everyone told me not to because they expected herm city, but I've been vigilant about checking, none so far.

So keep those seeds, they're good for experimenting with germ techniques or training etc. You could pop em all and do a week veg and straight into flower, to do a quick flower run and see what phenos are in that population.

A million things you could do... Enjoy your first harvest bud, you deserve it!

Wow great detail. Thanks.

My plants are all autoflower genetics. Is it still worth saving the seeds?
