You only only see what they want you to see. Do you know food in the EU costs a lot more than in the us (most of our agriculture and meat producers, dairy/chicken farms and graineries are subsidized by the USG! Their food is much healthier and tastier than the commercial crap here ( fruits, vegetables, meats, foul, dairy products...) consequently, they are healthier, and their health care costs much lower. You are hat you eat, or eventually a bad diet will translate into poor health.

Im no food saint, but I eat a lot healthier than the 60 something yo people I grew up with, or know. And I cured a 30 year long debilitating incurable disorder that the paid health care system could not, or didn't care to figure out. Bit of both probably

That forced me to delve into diet, and alternative therapies like; liver cleanses (essential, even if you're healthy), and a variety of holistic treatments, none of which are covered, but did nothing. Solving this critter wasn't easy. It took me 5 years spending every spare dollar all out of pocket, and without the heath system, which sucks paid, or unpaid

If the military budget was cut by 1% we could all have free education and healthcare. That's where the fight should be. Govt is great at one thing: diverting our attention to engaging in petty fights that we fail to see the bigger fucking going on. Congress just passed a $700 billion defense budget. One percent of that is $7 billion. There are 325 million people in the USA. That's $21 (twenty one dollars) per person. I don't think a Jackson is going to cover anyone's education or healthcare for a year, sorry. Nor would the entire military budget be enough, which would amount to $2,100 per person.

I'm glad you find your way back to health but I fail to see what any of that has to do with universal healthcare.

Americans eat garbage, and far too much of it. That's because the garbage, such as corn and sugar, is heavily subsidized, just like the major corporations in agriculture want.

If we quit subsidizing such crap we would likely see health care cost benefits. That's a long ways from saying that we don't need universal healthcare.

It's not just European countries that have universal healthcare, it's nearly all developed countries worldwide.

I refuse to accept the notion that America, the richest nation in human history, can't afford it. The truth is that our major corporations have bought our political system and what they want is enacted into law some ten times as often as what the citizens need.

Until that changes, from Citizens United on down, our country will continue to be run by, for and about large corporations, the vast majority of the rest of us be damned.

We would need to cut the 'defense' budget more than that, but there is plenty of fat to do the job.

The Military Industrial Complex is but one of the runaway business sectors that currently controls our government at the expense (literally and figuratively) of the citizens. Bringing that monster to heel will be a monumental task, one I'm frankly not sure we Americans are up to.

Why wouldn't $2100 each be sufficient? After all, most people don't need a lot of medical care, freeing up money for those who do; it's the ultimate in shared risk pools.

Also, it wouldn't all need to come out of the 'defense' budget, as America spends many billions annually on Medicare, Medicaid, drug assistance, etc, etc. Once all those costs are factored in, the difference would not be nearly as large as it's made out to be.
