Question for you since you're Mr. Phillips. On the 315 LEC bulbs I know there's two different K temps, but the question I have is, are there two different bulbs specifically for vertical and horizontal orientation in the fixture? Or does it not matter? Am I confusing the 315 bulb with the Blue MH from hortilux that is like that?
There's a letter code in the model designation of most lamps, Philips products included. Printed on the lamp;
H for horizontal mounting only
V for vertical mounting only
U for universal, or anything goes.

My old 860W CFM lamps were V.

My 315W CMH lamps were marked U.

Check yours, I'll bet they're U code as well.

My bill is in the mail... :bigjoint:

Thanks brother. I am debating a vertical 315 in between the (2) 600W in the Raptors for the incoming flower tent............

Or should I add some COB's...........

That's a tossup; if you will have plants 360 degrees around the lamp placement you might as well do the 315. If supplementing 600W HPS, go with the higher Kelvin rating- I think it's 4100K?- but beware that the plants will display a strong phototropic response to it in preference over HPS. Might make for some weird growth.

That might be a good reason to do LED lights overhead.

Nah but seriously I have been doing one or two logs at a time the entire time I have been growing since I first started........we will see................
I've noticed how much time you log in your grow. One of my research goals has been to minimize time spent vs results. Maybe there's some room in your system to do something similar? Just putting it out there...

Yeah what's killing me right now is the hand watering to be honest. That's what's taking up so much of my time especially with me having to work in bursts I need to stop and take breaks every so often etc.............


Part of the reason I miss my no till organics so much no EC. PH, etc. Just keep the worms happy and the eco system in the soil going and the girls grow themselves.............

I have been eyeballing the raised fabric beds from Grass Roots but would have to see how I'd manage run off...........

A timer fills the tables once a day and the water drains back into the reservoir. pH is stable, EC is stable, it's all but autopilot. I add nutes about every 10 days for a 4x6' canopy under 750W of LED.

The plants grow like mad.
My only issue with the flood tables in the tents is the loss of height due to the res................This is why I was looking at blumats.............

So let me see if I understand correctly, your saying 4100K CMH is such a rich light diet that the plants will be drawn to it over HPS? Yet people supplement with enhanced metal halides and plasma all the time with no ill effect on growth. But the best part is you basically just said cob is just as shitty as this whole led section claims that hps spectrum is if not worse so the plants won't be drawn to it :lol:

I'm not stressing weird growth as brother @MichiganMedGrower has been mixing the 315 with the 600's after I hooked him on the Blue MH like you did to me............

But yeah here's my deal with the LED's and it's not a bashing thing it's just the situation. How much do you really save in my shoes when you need to add heat to the grow half the year when it cools down, and then if you get into adding UV/IR/FR shit man just hang the HID's and call it good right LOL, I mean what's a bulb change once a year in the grand scheme of things LOL..........

The plants tend to "stretch" or grow toward the 600 hps over the 315 or 600 blue mh and I rotate them to compensate and end up with nice medium sized not too compact bushes when both types of light is in the room. The hps helps to open them up and space out the nodes a bit for larger buds.

This is because plants grow toward the strongest red spectrums (pardon me for not having the exact spectrums handy).

The blue light promotes compact leafy growth more. Too much in flower does not give the results we are looking for in my opinion.

If I was growing leafy greens I would prefer the Hortilux blue I think. But for flowering marijuana I only want enough blue to promote plant health and some compactness. (I stake and tie way too much with hps alone and needed almost no support with mixed spectrum)

Now uv a and b at the bottom of the blue side. That needs more attention. The Phillips 4200k over the 3100k or the original 400 "blue" Hortilux open with no glass might be the answer. Well they offer almost half the max amount suggested it seems.

Yup last grow in winter i had to lay 2 cfls in the bottom of the cab to get temp up i viewed it as a waste i would have rather had the power going to heat and light above

I said nothing of the kind.

Hanging the 315W CMH vertically in the middle will cause the plants to grow towards it compared to HPS. This is due to the well known fact that more blue makes for a stronger phototropic response.

Placing COB LED lights overhead will simply keep the plants growing up. Their spectrum is also superior to HPS and depending on the setup, more efficient as well.
