thanks guys...here's somewhat of an update
i was also wondering why some of my buds are getting so many orange hairs. most of the buds i've seen on this site don't have many, is this normal?

here's the tall one:

here are 2 examples of the red hairs on the buds:

anyone know anything about the red hairs? do these buds look like theyre almost ready to harvest? they are just about 10 weeks old now, so i'm hoping that they are

I'm a noob at this robbin, but I think I read that when the hairs are about 50% changed color that it is about ready to harvest! :joint::joint: Looks like your about ready to harveat to me, but I would wait for someone with more expereince than me to say yes. Looking good man keep up the good work man.

yeah its really opinion. I prefer a 35% amber/65% milky for a more "uppidy" high.
But you're absolutely right, most people harvest at 50/50

Duece.

Hey robbin, looking very nice! I was ready to chop mine last Friday, but I posted some pics in Harvesting and Curing and got some good advice from an experienced grower to wait. You may want to try this. Have you been flowering for 10 weeks or are the plants 10 weeks old total? Do some buds "look" more ready than others? I wish I could tell you they were ready, but I'm not experienced enough to tell. It looks great though!

the plants are 10 weeks old total, starting from when the sprouts broke out of the soil. most people flower for about 8 weeks, right? i switched them to flowering when they were about 3.5 weeks old, so the've been flowering now for about 7.5 weeks. i suppose some buds look a little more ready than others, but i've never done this so i'm not too sure. i guess i'll wait it out for another week and a half or maybe even 2 weeks and see how they look then

i think i paid somewhere around $9 for 2 23watt cfls. no stores around me sold anything higher than 23w :(
i've gotten decent results just using 23s, but i can only imagine how much better my buds would be if i had 42watters. go ahead and get em!

I hope you don't get thrown off a week ... 3.5 + 7.5 = 11 not 10 :(

So they have been flowering for around 6.5 weeks, so you have another week and a half to two weeks :)

Harvesting a week early could lead to potentially headier buds so if you don't prefer that, make sure you know exactly how long you've been flowering for.

Typically you'll want to harvest later than you think you should just to be safe.
