I was thinking about mounting some extra heatsinks in between cobs with the 5w and 10w chips similar to the Amare. Maybe not quite as many, but I'm only covering a 20"x46" closet.View attachment 3882575

The only thing that sucks is the white xl2s need to be driven @ at least 2000ma, the blue crees can take 1500ma, but reds can only take 1000 ma. It would probably take at least 2 additional drivers, maybe 3.
It's not a great design amare has....cobs need to be hung higher than single diodes , kinda makes the single diodes a waste of money when you are hanging them as high as COBs. I'd just take the money you are using for those and get more cobs , use a different color temp if you want to vary spectrum.

Good point. This will be for mostly flowering, and I think the 300 watts from the 6 veros will be plenty for my 6 sq ft. These $1500 lights really make you feel like you're missing out on something when you build one with 6 cobs for $400

You could easily toss a 2 ft t5 uv lamp and a 2 ft t5 660nm lamp down the sides of your fixture and have a better fixture than any fancy smancy high dollar fixture :)
Take a look at eye hortilux fs+uv lamp and the 660nm

I hope I don't roast any of mine! Even if it weren't 20 xl2 and 105 5w diodes, would it still be beneficial to add a few strips of these various chips, or would the results be neglibile for the amount of time and aggravation it will take to mount and wire all of them
I hear the DIY'rs say its to much work & expensive. Might be able to get pre-made hard-strips. Thing is, bar isn't the ring. And there's a big difference.

I'm cutting it close on space with the sides as the closet is only 20" deep and my COB frame will be either 18" or 16" (1 cut or two) but what if I put them right in the middle of everything? IMG_2048.JPG

You dont have to use the 660nm,i just used that as an example because that was my choice.rhey have a bunch of dif spectrum i think up to like 720 or 740nm.but def use 1 of the fs+uv

I guess I should look at my data sheet and see what these 29 SEs are missing the most of
Make sure to read up on the eye horti site about all those dif spectrums in the power veg lineup.most of these white cobs tail off pretty hard around 640 -650nm but some of those spectrums will induce stretch and others will keep stuff shorter.i wanted some extra stretch because i dont like how short the cree 3500k keeps shit.

Even if you use cool white?

Ok member since today. Join the amare club. Have fun flowering 450 watts in a 4.5x4.5. Make a grow log I want to see this. I use 16 cxb 3590 to flower in a 5x5. The 3590 are 20% more efficient at that wattage than the 3070. I'm pushing 800ppfd which is a little on the light side. That se450 will very poorly flower the space amare is trying to push. You're a new member so it's typical
I can show you proof it is more than enough light for a 4.5x4.5
