right on man let me know how that goes. i didnt mean to sound like a jerk, was just wondering if you had thought about that... i dont really like MG, but when i dont have any other soil on hand and have plants that need soil the organic choice with some more perlite and vermiculite mixed in is what i do. have you heard of Roots Organic Potting mix? thats what im always tryin to stock up on works nice. i have a friend use fox farm and i like the Roots Organic better
No man you didnt sound like a jerk at all... but i hadnt thought about it untill someone brought it up, and if im going to do this little experiment i might as well cover all grounds...You are right though if you cant really get a hold of quality soil in your area adding some larger grained substances can increase the roots abilities to grow expand and most of all get some good ol oxygen to em. Im not firmiliar with Roots Organic is it a local type...we have some stuff in Boulder CO that's called Soilid Gold. You can't really get it cause all the big growers have an IN with the soil producers. Whatever they do to this stuff its worth every penny its like steriods for plants...some microbrewing and filtering and more microbrewing and some compost mix thats their owe blend...stuffs like 50 buck a bag just to fill two five gallons but everyone i meet thats ever used it is always looking for a place to get some more....its almost like you could have a black market on that stuff for pot growers. hahahahaha

Tussel i know exactly where you went right and MG went wrong...im seeing it tends to like to hold water for more lengthy periods of time the perlite added would help with the drainage( and for beginners this is important...I know you want to give it all the loving you can but its alright to let it dry it likes it) and without added perlite my watering schedule is a day or even two behind the others..which also would lead me to believe the water uptake and nute up take is slower as well?
nothin wrong with my mix bro it's served me well for quite a long time it drains fine as for holding water too long not whith the roots my plants grow in my mix its not a problem. if yo are growing a seedling in it you will prolly run in to problems but for a plant with an established root system it works great i have never had over watering problems and it dries out just fine. just cause you couldnt do it does not mean it cant be done

oh yea and as for watering scheduals thats a bunch of horse shit too. you are supposed to water when the plant needs it not on any schedual. i water mine every 7 days about , whats that mean?????????? absolutly nothing espetially considering plants use difrnt amounts at difrnt stages of growth so it may be 7 days for a few weeks than 5 days or who knows could be anything diffrant plants have differant needs aswell so whats really going on

Dude i was agreeing with you but i'm not saying its a schedule i'm finding that the fox far soil is drying up or being used up faster than the mg so it seems like a day or two different in my between when i water the fox farm and then wait two days to water the mg again.

what im trying to say is watering schedual has nothing to do with it a day or 2 just could be from the plants being smaller less roots use less water homie, or the fact that its moisture control.you gotta use clones from the same mother for any experiment or the results dnt mean a thing even if they are seed from the same strain still wouldnt matter and you were not agreeing with me you were telling me what you think i did wrong by useing mg. i know it works ive been at this a looong time. a lot of ppl use it with great success..

cant smoke im gonna eat a brownie and if i smoke it will ruine it.... but either way you should not put a seed right into ff or mg it should be transplanted for a few reasons you get a fuller rootmass when you transplant up and a lot of plants can get bernt cause they are both a lil warm for a seedling

Damn, wish i could remember who it was that used the stuff on here! maybe they'll show up and say hello. But they used the stuff and they had some sick lookin plants, SICK! Peresonally, I've got nothin personal against the stuff, just myself am not good enough yet to use it. Maybe down the road I'll do a mg grow again just to try out my own self.

I tried Miracle Grow Organic Soil in the small brownish goldish bag when I started out and it killed no telling how many plants and I had it mixed 50/50 with perlite ....and the shit was still burning them up, and it was 6 different strains too, killed them all, they would all die before they even hit 12" tall, I switched over to some stuff called SunGro Metro Mix 300 and I've been sold on using soilless mix from here on out, I did use FoxFarms Ocean Soil for one grow....that stuff is great , its just too expensive to have that stuff shipped especially when its 3 bags at a time. Using Miracle Grow caused me to waste about 200 bucks on seed, I should've used the soilless mix from the start.

NoNorth sounds like you have a larger set up...id like to try the soil less one of these days to maintain nute up take and all, but i like the organic taste personally but if i were to do it more as a business type set up id go with what you have too sounds more productive and a stable way to grow.
