Rubbermaid SOG Questions(how big/how many containers)(what strain?)

This is my first grow. Im currently about to do an SOG style grow in 2 64 gallon sterilite totes with 8 23watt cfl.My plan is to flower from clone with about 16-20 inches of vertical growing space. Im conflicted on a couple things.

1.
I have 6 3 gallon pots in there. They are pretty squished in there. Should I go down to a 2 gallon or one gallon? Does a little push on the sides of the container matter?

2. The place where I get clones from recommended
Black Domina
Super Silver Bubba (Pre 98 Bubba x Super Silver Haze)
xxx OG(one stretchey pheno and one bushier pheno)

Im really interested in doing Black Domina because of its main cola tendencies and heavy yield. OGs can be very stretchy. Is this not right?

3.Should I attempt to do more plants like around 8?

Any comments or really any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

first of all you need more light. and the rule of thumb is that when doing a sog you should leave each plant a 1 sq foot space to grow in so you can figure out the sq footage of your space by multiplying its length by its width. i would invest in a HID light such as a hps or mh or both in one, check ebay there are some cheap ones. also when growing with a HID you need to have atleast 30 watts per sq foot but 50 w per sq foot is optimal i have 44 watts per sq foot in my room but 30 will be ok. good luck my friend and if at forst you dont succeed dust your pots off and try again.

Thanks for replying. I dont have anymore money that I could spend on this grow so HID is out of the question. I tried to do 12 23 watt cfls but my temps were at 85-90 degrees. Im now thinking about doing 4 or 5 plants because they will need room to breathe.

hmmm if i had some pics of your setup i could tell you what to do to get the temps down possibly. cfls werent your problem though they hardly give off any heat at all. i think it could be a lack of ventillation.

I have a six inch inline fan that is pulling through a homemade carbon filter supposedly at 250 cfm. There are 2 1/12 in passive air intakes in the back. The 100_0685.jpg.

iyour ventillation is good i think you may have a problem with the heat outside of the growroom. the fan is no good if its pulling hot air into your grow space. what are your temps outside of the grow area?

The temps in the room are around 65-70 at night 70-75 during the day. I’m really discouraged because sometimes my humidity is reaching 80%. This doesn’t make any sense to me as I live in southern California. I have a dehumidifier but it truthfully doesn’t lower it that much only to around 58%. The thing is super loud as well. I might put an old ac window unit in, but I have vertical windows and that could be a huge hassle and it would block off one of the only windows in the room. That would solve both temp and humidity issues as well.Im gonna try to get my temps down with that ac then put all 12 lights or at least 10 in. Right now I’m worried about fitting these 3 gallon containers in my grow .
Do you think 3 gallons is overkill for clone to flower?
Is it a big deal is the containers are squished in there?
Thanks

ok 58% humidity is fine and you might have a humidity issue because you have some kind of open water container in your grow area, if so take it out. also if your growing in a closed environment and your pulling air from the outer environment always expect your grow area to be around 5 - 10 degrees hotter so account for that. and i wouldent worry about putting too many pots in there and 3 gallon pots are fine for you. if your spraying the foliage on your plants with a mist that is the cause of your high humidity so when you do mist them keep the grow space open for a bit so the water can evaporate or dry out. also the air conditioner sounds like a good idea. even small windows are around 24 to 25 inches wide so you should be able to find an ac that would fit that.

I put the AC in the window and it is freezing in my room. My temp gauge is still reading at 70-73 with lights off. The humidity is 57-63%. I think my thermometer/ hygrometer is broken because there is no way that the room is that hot. Thanks for the humidity advice, the only thing I have in the grow cab is the roots soil and the pots. I found out today that I can only flower 6 plants at a time, so I guess that answers that question. Thanks so much for helping me figure this out. It would be so funny if all my issues are caused by a bad temp/hygrometer. Guess its an easy fix as well.

oh btw 75 is perfect just try not to exceed 80 and keep in mind that your canopy does its best at 85 degrees but never exceed 90. weed likes it hot lol and the only time you should worry about humidity is when your budding, thats when you want it to be around 40%
