Awesome response, thanks!

I read that article as well. Originally, I was buying all KessilH350 Magentas for both Veg and Flower.

However, I began talking to a few friends, just like you, as to the benefits as to a wider spectrum through LED. Cannawizard, another RIU member on here, originally convinced me to go with some H350 Deep Purples, as combining those with the magenta produced a better harvest for him.

So now I am going to be running a mixed spectrum vs. an all Magenta spectrum with clones and see which produces better. I am still a few months off from this project, but am getting closer each day.

Hello all,

Just wanted to throw up a quick update.

The plants have exploded now that I am done manipulating them. I averaged .33 inches/day in growth throughout this grow, as I topped, pruned, LSTed, etc etc. However, now that manipulation has ceased I am now averaging 1.25'' a day in growth on average. This is on an 18/6 spectrum.

My Black Widows are either getting the shivers or are experiencing a lockout. Not sure yet. Either way, the Black Widows have all been duds for me this round. They were the last of a pack of 15, and the original ones I popped last year experienced the same thing. Must be a bad batch, which is unusual with Mr Nice Seeds.

All the Black Widows are showing lighter greens/yellows on all new growth. This was first apparent this morning. The only thing I did to them was give them a dose of liquid Myco Orca yesterday. This could be due to a fungal and bacterial explosion, whedre they get what I call the 'shivers', i.e. they hit a nutrient rich source and it shocks the plant until it adjusts over the next 36 hours. If this is the case, things should return to normal by next week. If not, I may have an issue with this batch and will most likely just dump them all, as my last run with this batch was extremely difficult to continue with.

Here are some room pictures. If the Widows dont improve by Sunday, I will post pictures of them for you guys to see what I am talking about.

This is a Black Widow underneath a Blackstar 240W. Notice the left hand side is dipping t the left...it is reaching for the Deep Purple's Spectrum...telling me that the Kessil Purple is throwing off a better Veg Spectrum than the 240W Panel (which is obvious).

You are most welcome. It'll be cool to see the results everyone is getting. The better growth pattern in the plants sounds quite noticeable. I've seen the Wizard around. Will have to check his thread out. :peace:

I don't think you're gonna be too disappointed with the alchemist. She's gettin' frosty in my garden and she's filling in nicely. I'd like to mention that I switched her over when she was only ~5" tall and now she's ~4.5' tall and ~ 3' wide. No topping or training because I wanted her to get as tall as possible for the sake of my canopy.

I like your taste. This is my favorite reasonably sized set-up I've seen so far. Keep em' coming!

Hey Snafu, what's up? I hope you're doing well.

On the last photo of the Black Widow, do you see the tip of that one leaf pointing down? That's what my Black Widows do when I spray too much Cal Carb on them and the PH of the leaves rise. Maybe your PH is up and is locking out something? It's tough to tell with the LED lights on. Then again maybe they do need a little time to get used to their medium. I would hate to see you dump those plants though. I just started harvesting my BW and some of what I'm smoking is some amazing bud already.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for hanging in. This selection process is going on a little longer in veg than I originally planned on. However, it was a matter of circumstance as my friend had not closed on his house yet so there were still a few factors. Now that things are in order, I will be flipping the switch on Sunday for flowering.

A quick update on the grow...a FE(Iron) lockout occurred due to the learning curve of watering(this is my first LED only grow). I mitigated this with a rusty water foliar feed and an AACT root drench. That was on Monday. Funny, haven't over watered plans in at least 10 years.

Some would be surprised at the root drench, but a proper AACT drench and then a long dry-out period is a great way to fix an overwatering issue in organics. So, since Monday all the plants have been getting blown on by numerous fans. Suffice to say, plants are returning to their normal state. ALl Black Widows were topped yesterday.

I transplanted some of the Kushes, Medicine Man and Critical Sensi Star to some bigger pots, as they were slower to come out of the Fe lockout, and I believe they'll need all the nutrients they can get with such a long veg time now.

All told, everything is going nicely now.

I will do a proper update on the first day of flower this Sunday.

Flower Day One
Sprouted: 12/1/12
Vegetative Begin: 12/15/12
Two Months Veg
Day 86 from seed

Methods: All Organic, All LED, Transplanted 3-4x to bigger pots, Topped, Pruned, LSTed and now SCRoGed for flower
Lighting: 1 BlackStar Chrome 270, 1 Blackstar 90W UFO Flower Spectrum, 1 Blackstar 240W, 8 Kessil H350 magentas
Lighting Schedule: 24/0 for sprouting, 18/6 for vegetative, 12/12 for Flower
Climate: 63F Lights off, 76-80F lights on. 40-60%RH

Notes: Well, let's light a fire under this thread, shall we?

Today is Day One of Flowering. All plants have come out of their over-watering Fe lockout(now ten days later), and are ready to be flipped into flowering. I probably will not have another update until after the initial stretch, as this thread has been long and boring for long enough. I only took a few pictures, as I did not have much time before the lights went out.

IMG_3655.jpgIMG_3656.jpg
Black Widows and Alquimista (Alquimista taller one in middle with cage). The one on the milk crate is the pakistan autoryder, which is almost finished.

I have every genetic posted above cloned and vegging in another tent under 18/6 Kessil Deep Purples.

I am a big fan of Kessils, as you get serious power with almost no voltage increase. Let's see how flowering does!

Nice! I'm really excited to see where things lead now. With all that veg you should be in pretty good shape, thinks me.

Hey guys,

I recently added in a drip system as I will be laving on vacation soon. A friend of mine has turned me on to automation lately, and figured I could apply this understanding to my organic methods.

I installed a drip irrigation system this morning, which should keep my plants and media moist and happy with minimal interference by myself. When I leave soon for vacation, I won't have anything to worry about.

IMG_3659.jpgIMG_3660.jpgIMG_3661.jpg

And here is the Pakistan Ryder auto that I have been playing around with. This was grown exclusively under a Kessil Magenta H350.
IMG_3662.jpgIMG_3663.jpg
Based on the Pakistans results(I didnt take good care of her), I'd say the 350s have absolutely no problem flowering out nicely:)

Just a quick unofficial update....

Got my Blackstar Chrome 270W LED in today. Pricey at almost $500, but obviously a much higher quality design and materials used upon initial inspection.

Here are some pictures. Got a few of the ladies, or so I hope, in there as well...they were all a little droopy from a misting.

In the wider shot you will see the LEDs I am running. They are all Blackstar from Lighthouse Hydro.

The White UFO is a 90W High Output. The Black UFO is a 90W LED 6 Band. The Back Rectangle is the Blackstar 240W. and Of course, the new Chrome.

Wow, I was thinking about upgrading to the Blackstar Chrome too! One of my lights busted when I banged it with my head, and it hit the other light. A few rows went out, but I called Victor and he hooked me back up with a new one! Maybe in the future I will upgrade! I love Blackstars!

Good Morning All,

I hope everyone is enjoying the thread. The plants are coming along nicely, here are updated photos taken from this morning.

IMG_3704.jpgIMG_3700.jpg
You'll notice the far back left and back right were hit the hardest from the Fe lockout. They are recovering nicely, however.

I'd like to take a moment to continue the discourse on the Kessil H350 Dense Matrix LED Lights. I was originally turned on to these by a friend of mine who is a big fan of Kessil's technology. I found a cheap source to acquire them(around or less than $250 each), and proceeded to buy nine of them with the Spinner. I have 7 Magentas and 2 Deep Purples.

They are not cheap, and you need quite a few of them to produce buds. However, in the long run the savings are fantastic. They come with a 2 year warranty, but I feel that this should really be a 3 year warranty atleast.

Compared to my 600W HPS, the electrical bill is literally 80% cheaper running 9 Kessil H350s compared to one 600W light on a digital ballast. This makes me very happy. Also, I do not ventilate and I do not use any ducting or can fans. I dont need to. The Kessils run cool to the touch and keep my tent at a perfect 75F. The PITA process of venting and ductowrk is worth the LED route alone.

Here are some bud shots of a Pakistan Autoryder that I basically abused throughout its lifetime. This lady is a Kessil exclusive...she looks nice for all the abuse I gave her; She was popped under a Kessil Magenta 350 and Flowered as such.
IMG_3696.jpgIMG_3689.jpgIMG_3690.jpgIMG_3692.jpg
So, whoever doesn't believe that these little Kessils can produce bud, the above is proof they work. And the above was abused and treated awfully bad.

My running conclusion is still being formulated, but my consensus is as such:

Pros: If you prefer to be able to control heat with little to no work/venting/ducting/fans, enjoy literally 80% electrical savings each month, produce high quality bud and use less water, than the LED route is for you. Kessils provide smaller, lighter and more efficient LED lighting as compared to most panels. If you have a Spectral Spinner, it truly becomes a connoisseur gentleman's grow.

CONS: Huge initial upfront cost. Slight learning curve to LED growing (specifically water uptake).

Hey all,

I will be not updating this thread for a week or more.

I am headed out to Denver Colorado tomorrow for a wedding.

If any friends are in here that live near Denver and can help provide me with safe access to good quality medicine, I would be forever grateful.

I am a registered MMJ patient from MA and will have my Doctor's recommendation from Cannamed and my Primary Care Physician's diagnosis with me.

Happy travels all,

Snafu

Hey Guys,

Denver was fun. Legalziation has not fully took hold yet, but it is still encouraging to see the process take form. Very cool to see something that was once illegal begin to make its first steps from the shadows. Great medicine out there as well. Many props to my new found friends that made it possible for safe access.

Onwards and upwards. It seems like all the Black Widows were adversely affected while I left. The Fe deficiency kicked in due to lack of foliar treatment. I decided to dump all of them and move onto all of their clones. Since these clones are now all about a foot tall, I am really not concerned about dumping all of the Widows. The clones will all be transplanted into bigger containers tomorrow and once adjusted to their new pots, will be put into the flowering tent.

All the other ladies stretched nicely, about 6-8 inches across them all. I plan on taking pictures tomorrow.
