Universal Basic Income; 'bout time or batshit crazy?

how about getting a job and providing for self. is that no longer an option? Too many lazy fucks in America, why promote laziness.
Why let half the country wallow in or near poverty when there is more than enough resources and productivity? Would you quit your job for a monthly basic income of let's say $500? Would $500/month make the difference for a single-mother/father, a new mother/father taking temporary leave or cutting back to part time? How about make the difference for an elderly trying to retire or live independently, or for an elderly's family to be able to temporarily take time off to take care of their elderly/dying parent? Does society overall benefit from raising people out of poverty and giving them the means to take care of their families?

i think he might be referring to the brokedick coal country trumptards who know no other way of life than their beloved factory or coal mine an ain't willin' to retrain for shit (now pass the opioids please)
They make good money in the mines as compared to another job. I was watching the town hall with Sanders and Chris Hayes discussion was alternative employment- and you're right! They don't want to re-train for something else because it's not as lucrative. One guy said he's doing something else until the jobs! jobs! jobs! in the mines come back but that he's not happy because he doesn't make the money. I believe he was doing some kind of office type job.

the funny thing is that before trump, some parts of the nation were actually starting to diversify their economies in preparation for the inevitable decline of coal. there is nothing trump can do to force electric companies to use coal, and they are switching to other sources, especially renewables, at ever faster rates.

trump is doing these people more harm than good. but they are too fucking dumb to even know it.

some are.
So you would be against the idea of a universal basic income because "some" people are lazy..

Again, right out of Hannity's mouth..

That's the exact same reason many conservatives here cite as their main reason they oppose basic welfare; systemic abuse

The fact is, a big portion of service jobs (which make up 80% of our economy) are going to be outsourced or automated by 2050, this is going to cause the loss of millions of jobs. With a growing population expecting fewer jobs to be available, it's clear to anyone following this issue that something significant in the way people view work and ascribe value to themselves through their job will have to change.

This isn't an 'if', it's a 'when'.

how about working. Finding a job and being a productive member of society. If you can't find a job then apply for welfare until you can. Stop looking for hand outs and only hand outs. damn shame

Only handouts? How many who temporarily recieve government assistance work? How would redistributing money to the bottom of the economy hurt the economy?

Because there is more to life than punching a time clock. My bills are paid. I spend my days enjoying the things in life that are free.

Why do you feel a need to work?
but you take from others ? Would you not like providing for yourself, bringing about a sense of pride.

A significant portion of jobs will be gone, it's not about "looking for work", it's about the work not being available for millions of people who want to work.

Your solution of telling people to just stop being lazy and get a job will undoubtedly lead to political unrest when there are no jobs available. So, to avoid that, what would you suggest?

My understanding is that Pada wants a check without a days work. Government is to just give all able bodies a check just for being
