Newbie grower - encountered a small problem.

Hey guys just joined the forums recently, as the title says first time grower and just yesterday around 3pm I planted a seed that had sprouted a root around an inch long, in a small pot of Biobizz all-mix with water.

Today when I checked after 24hrs of it being planted it was already through the soil with the little baby leaves and seed cap still attatched! I thought the seed cap looked loose enough to manage off gently, pinched a little to see if it would come off but ended up pulling the full thing out of the dirt :sad:

I immediately replanted with the root covered over with a little soil again with the leaves and seed cap just sticking out of the soil the way I found it, will this have damaged the seed or potentially ruined the potential of the plant or should it be ok just planted again? Slightly concerned as I only had 5 seeds and 1 that germed!

Why did you try to pull it off ? Let nature do it's own thing. Otherwise , you will love her to death. Just let her grow. The more things you do to the plant ...... the more chances you have of fucking her up. Relax, it's a weed.

Spray the seed pod 2 - 3 times a day and it will soften it enough to let the cotyledons push it off. It is generally a bad idea to attempt to remove them after they have broken ground as the jostling can damage the emerging seedling. Whether or not you damaged it by pulling it up will remain to be seen but you have likely caused some retardation of its growth by doing so. Proper planting your seeds with the emerging tap root on the top in the horizontal position it will result in the emerging seedling leaving the pod in the soil. I have seen many posts about seed placement but my experience has shown me that the tap root will emerge, curl around the top and then down. When the roots start to form and the plant breaks ground the first thing you will see is the stem as it forms an upside down "U" with the roots on one end and the cotyledons/shell on the other. Ideally as the cotyledons spread and the stem elongates, the plant is pulled from the ground leaving the seed pod behind. Rarely does the seed pod remain attached and if it does it should be sprayed to keep it soft until it falls off on its own.

Thanks for the quick responses, I had heard some examples of the seedling growing with the pod still attatched can cause unwanted growth in the plants or the leaves turn yellow? Again just loads of examples but obviously I have done it too early. Just me though I'm a little impatient it's my nature unfortunately, never grew any sort of plant in my life so I'm a massive newbie to growing anything lol

Leaves only turn color if it's super cold, or if there's some type of nutrient problem. That seed shell shouldn't turn your plants yellow... And unwanted growth? Don't you want it to grow? All growth at this point is wanted I would imagine.

Unwanted growth in as a retardation of course as much growth as possible other wise :-P again just loads of different examples and stories, I blame bad YouTube tutorials that I have watched.

You can easily train growth that is out of place and put it where ever you want to. I got clones that instead of growing tall they just shot side branches out and now I got a bunch of side branch clones but I'm not concerned as long as they rooted... And that plant dude I think is dead it was so small you shouldn't have been though if touching it. The soil looks real moist too I wait until mine are a inch or two tall before I even think of touching them. Only time you should touch is to move a leaf or to re position your plant or something like that. I never touch it just to touch it... I do rub my stems sometimes cause they smell dank as hell and smells so amazing

I think it would be fine like I said it was only planted... well 26 hours ago now but I gave it a little watering about 200ml at around 12pm this afternoon (UK time) it is in a 5" cup, no run off or anything like that would a class cup or something over the top of where the sprout is to encourage growth? It's already about 4" away from two 30w cfl's and blue LED strips.

I honestly didn't really see it either, but we're not shitting on your thread. This is a occurring problem with new people and people who have been there did that. The new people always think we are being assholes when we are simply laying out the facts instead of leading you on and rambling it in 50 different posts, we just put it flat out in on post.
