DIY with Quantum Boards

You are mistaken what you bought is a cheap knockoff of a quantum board the shitty Alibaba companies just use the name to lure in buyers. You most likely aren't getting the diodes they say you are. Your best off going with what they suggest.

Quantum Board is a trademarked brand name by HLG. If you didn't buy something made by HLG you don't have a QB, you have a knockoff. And from the look of it, most likely low quality knockoffs from a questionable vendor. There is an entire thread for knockoff boards and that would be a better place for you.

Finished T5 conversion. i'm very pleased!

No daisychain plugs. The boards are wired in series on an HLG-80H-54. I've turned it down to 45 watts so as to not burn my house plants lol

I take it you are taking advantage of the daisy chain plugs ?

Looking forward to seeing this one .... T Quantums.

Sounds like you have what you need.

@pop22 and @SoMe_EfFin_MasS_HoLe

Ordered wago's, carabiner hangers, wire zip ties, IP67 Waterproof Electrical Connectors, tin lead 60/40 resin core solder, NEMA 5-15P SJTW 16/3 6 foot power cords. Some M5 screws were included that appear to fit a phillips screwdriver. I have a multimeter from Harbor Freight, will need to pick up some wire strippers.

Can I purchase:

"18 AWG TFN SOLID COPPER WIRE 25 FT IN WHITE GREAT FOR TRAIN WIRE"
View attachment 4289934

Is this the only wire needed? No other wire is needed between AC and DC sides? From youtube videos it looks like a higher gauge wire is used on the board side of wiring.
Thanks everyone!

pop22 Nice I should have converted my T5! I ordered the HLG 40 for my clone / seedling light it replaces some POS florescent fixture I had to buy in a pinch.

@pop22 I'm loving your T5 conversion! Nice work!!

Previously you commented on the wiring needed to wire two QB 324 V2's with one HLG-drivers wired in series and driver housed external to the grow tent. You mentioned that 18G wire would be best. What type of 18G wire should I order? On the HLG website it just says "solid core wire". Do I want solid core copper wire, do I want two connector wire, 4 conductor wire, I'm lost... ahhh! LOL thank you!

Thank you!!
Just go to the hardware store and buy some two solid core doorbell wire. 18G, one red and one is black

Back from ICU ....

Atomic Bomb [ auto ] - Bomb Seeds

Originally posted before of a sad runty plant I almost clubbed with a bat. She was popped with 2
PSYCHOFRUIT autos ( which are deep into late flower ) as part of a perpetual grow.

Started in a Hempy bucket ( kids sand bucket .... lol ) with 100% perlite ( prewashed for dust ) .
Running GH Maxigrow and MAXIBLOOM same as others @5.8.
The others exploded in grow except her ..... so instead of swing at bat on her I decided to
concentrate on maybe saving her.

Added a warming pad running 24 / 7 and dedicating a QB 304 ( 3500 ) running between 60-80 watts.
I kept the same light schedule 18/6 . Fed her chicken soup with calmag and FF Boomerang.
Slowly she Grew but STILL did not move much..... so I decided to FORCE FLOWER under 12/12.

End result was stellar .... she branched like nobody’s business and is sexed out.

Sometimes you gotta put your foot up their ass to help them out.
She’s an obvious Sativa lean , so saving her was a given.

I use 18guage stranded from the driver to the boards. I use wagos just prior to the board and a short piece of solid wire from the wago to the boards. The stranded has less losses per foot and it makes raising and lowering your lights much nicer that that damned stiff solid wire. Two conductor twinlead is wlhlat I use, I found some on Amazon thats color coded, you can find red/black in twinlead but any will work. most twinlead has a ridge runing down the side of one lead and one smooth, so you can tell which is which in a DC circuit.

@pop22 and @captainmorgan Thanks for the help with these wire types.

Would this be okay? 18 AWG - 2 Conductor - 600V - Stranded Conductor - Unshielded - VNTC Tray Cable
This appears to be twin wires (red and black). 82-600-370_2_1_21.jpg

If, so is this the only wire that I need? @pop22 you stated: "I use wagos just prior to the board and a short piece of solid wire from the wago to the boards. "

Is this a solid core wire, a different wire type?

Thank you guys! 8-)

there is a solid copper wire and stranded wire. the stranded is soft and flexible the solid is not. the solid work better with the connectors on QB boards thus I us the Wago or a barrel connector to transition from the stranded wire tot the solid wire. solid wire hanging in your tent is a pain in the ass vs the stranded. You can use solid for the whole run, that's a matter of choice.

If using stranded wire tin the ends for wago and board connections that's how I run mine. As pop22 pointed out that solid core can be frustrating to work with.
Oh okay -- so do you guys use both thin stranded wire and thick solid core wire. There's so many different types of wire, it's a little overwhelming to know what's best. Ahhh Haha

I, like pop and others, use stranded right up until the boards and use as little solid core as possible. Use short pieces of solid for board connections and longer runs of stranded wire to run back to the driver. My wagos are actually inside of a IP rated "connection box" it's not water tight or any of that jazz but it does prevent moisture from having easy access to the wago connector.

solid core wire will snap off in the wagos if moved around too much. At least the stuff I used.... I found it less than optimal for the whole run.

I agree with everything you say and have experienced the pain in the ass first hand. Had to rebuild my lights because I had solid core snap when I knocked my light.

Solid core on the fixture and stranded from the fixture to the wall.
