Hey all, I topped one of my seedlings a few days ago and she bounced back nicely, new growth starting, not much of a slow down. I do however notice that the plant seems to be trying to push new growth out of the top of the stem that I cut as well as around it. Should I attempt to remove this?
My plan is to lst her down so that I have more room for a longer veg in my 5 foot high tent. Is this new growth trying to be the main stem, or should I leave it?
Tried to get a clear picture, As always any help is appreciated!

The new growth will become the two new top growth shoots.

You should leave it for awhile.

Yes, it has those starting, you can see them in the attachment, what I am concerned about is the growth that appears to be coming out of exactly the spot I was trying to clip off. I don't want the plant to put energy into trying to grow upwards, that defeats the point, right? It looked entirely dead on that stem 2 days ago and is getting green again.

You want your plant to bush out so you get a flat top and even lighting to all of your colas - inverse square law.

Topping will make the plant send hormones to the next tallest branches and they become the meristems.

You may have to top a second time before your side branches catch up with the top colas.

.

Here's a good view of how branches can be topped to make a flat canopy, and the second how the canopy looks from above:

Not going to say its definitely new growth... but it sure looks like it.

Any time I top my plants, the site where the cut is, kind of scabs over, and turns brown.

What you have doesnt appear to have leaf formations.. it moreso looks like new stem growth.

It's odd, but I wouldnt do anything about it right this second.. let her do her thing

look into 'microtopping'. looks to me like you might need to bend that growth where you topped side to side with your thumb, it might just pop off and you'll be good

Search Youtube for 'micro-top'

Yeah, I assume with another week it'll show me what it is trying to do. If I get a goofy off center branch it doesn't ruin anything as long as the main goal of widening and shortening still happen, right?

I just want the new branches to come out strong, not scraggly like they would without topping.

Thanks! I will check it out. Is there a video that you particularly liked? That sounds sensible. Push it out of the way of it happens to keep growing? Makes sense. I just found it really startling that the dead necrotic stem bit looked green again. These damn things are like weeds I tell you! ;)

Sorry Rsawr, I didn't read your first post completely.

Cut the two top growth shoots away and the next set of branches will become the meristems.

I use to do the same as you're doing, then bend the two stems around the bucket and tie it down. I got a 4' Kali Mist to grow only 4" above the bucket top by wrapping it around the bucket. Just another way to LST.

Good luck!

Hey, no problem at all. You're heckin' helpful! It's hard to read everyone's whiny posts all the way through this early in the day, my own included! I start my day out mostly with people's bud pics, easier on the eyes and mind!

So you would cut these two new leaf growths away, looking for a different type of growth? Poor girl might be getting another forced haircut soon...

You could even cut away the stem between the two top nodes but cutting away the growth shoots will produce the same results.

FIM....F.uck I. M.issed.....and this is exactly what you did...you missed cutting off the complete top. No harm, no foul...the results will be the same at the end of the day (a bushier plant). Good luck.
I agree. A little passed a fim. Almost a top, I would get rid of it . Cut it close to the V . More energy to the 2 then of course top those in a couple weeks

Thanks everyone! You guys rule. I think I will try to finish the top, but I am a bit curious about what it will be.

Also you could just let it grow up a bit more until you can safely put in some scissors to snip it off. peace

I used my eyebrow tweezers (Grow ladies woo) and got just the stem from above. I did not have another tool precise enough, even my trim shears seem so huge! I could have waited, but the angle wasn't difficult with a small enough tool, and after her feeding she didn't even notice! If I have another issue like this in the future I now know. Cheers guys! When my 4 other seedlings catch up I'll start my grow journal an you can check her out once she hits her teens!
