Can somebody explain what is F1,F4,F6 etc.?

Hello again guys, I was checking out some strains of Mephisto and ACE Seeds who are known for having insane auto genetics. Some strains have F1/F8 in their description? What is that exactly? I've seen a post here before about it but forgot. What does F stand for and what does the number mean? Thank you guys.

F1 is a cross between 2 strains. F2 is the progeny of the F1 cross and so on.
Aaahh I see. Thanks for your help xtsho. I assume the more breeding (higher the number) the better for reducing phenos? At least for autoflowers.

It's more complicated than that. But unless you want to spend hours doing research then that's probably a good enough explanation.

If you are so inclined to delve further then start by looking at Mendel's experiments and go from there.

Why do you think there is any difference between breeding autos, and photos? Stability, yield, and potency, are the goals of breeding
Hey friend. I think I'm more concenced about autos because I only grow autos until I get a 4x4 and because autoflowers are usually less stable and produce multiple phenos...I think...for example I'm growing a Tangerine Dream auto from Barney's Farm which is supposedly sativa dominant. However, my plant is short, bushy with wide and dark green leaves. Wtf? I've also seen many phenos from FastBuds on this forum and after some research, Mephisto, Dinafem and Ace Seeds produce some of the most decent autos.

Short and bushy are characteristics of the ruderalis used for breeding.

Well, I still expected it to look like a sativa. I've seen many autos that look like sativas. Tall, long and thin leaves with slightly longer flowering periods.

Even the most stabilized strains can vary from seed to seed. You might get a batch of seeds that came from the same pollinated female. Out of 10 seeds 9 may be almost the same but 1 might be very different. You find variations when gardening and growing vegetables or flowers. Cannabis is just another plant and will have variations from seed to seed. It's impossible to produce hybrid seeds that grow 100% the same for every seed.

Try Crockett family farms tangie. It is the most consistent plant from seed i have grown

edit... Not an auto, but barely any variation

It's not available in my country. Only BT7, cherry18, Lemon18 and SSOG from CFF. Grown any of these?
