Or if you’re unsure ask and wait for responses!

the good growers on this site unfortunately have seen it all and most of them have been members here for over a decade and we see the same stupid early harvests with each new influx of newbies.

so we’re sorry that our language filters are a little worn out now but we've been saying the same shit day in and day out for years and yet people still don’t pay a blind bit of notice!

reason being if someone wants to harvest they are going to regardless of you telling them it’s not ready because ingrained into their head is

Early harvest - energetic head high
Late harvest - couchlock

When it reality it’s strain dependant.

the only thing that changes with ripeness is the length of time that “high” lasts for!
Without trying to cause a shitstorm I think your wrong! 1. Newbies do pay attention. 2. We listen and act on what we think is good information. 3. I'm anxious as hell, but I'm not willing to fuck up after 3-4 months of sweat and anguish. 4. I'm paying more attention to your post than any other on this thread! You sound like you know what the fuck youre talking about.

With that said, this is a forum and coming here to learn is the main reason to come at all. Many experienced well known members started as newbies that needed help. If helping is such a frustration why bother to respond? Let somebody else! I've been around long enough to know that an aggravated post from a well known member only discourages a new comer to the site.

I'm almost at the same point as the OP, week 8 starts today and I'm looking at the trichomes with old man eyes saying to myself "Hummm what the fuck, could be white, could be cloudy". Better get a bigger magnifying glass I can't tell. I figure going to the end of week 9 and flushing and hope for the best after week 10. I hope I have that much time before the trichomes turn Amber. And NO, I don't know what a ripe plant looks like! I hope like hell you go into detail using small words. I bet like the OP I'm hoping you'll give as much info as possible about what to do or expect toward the end of a grow.

Thanks, no disrespect intended

I just harvested, in the middle of my 9th week. This is my first time actually drying with the intent on curing.. I don't want to make any mistakes. Any advice please.... I am using my 2x2 grow room. Plenty of ventilation and filtration. It's dark and warm around 79 degrees with my humidity around 50 percent. I have quart Mason jars ready for curing when dried. Pics attached with light on so you can see... any advice welcome. I was at around 10 to 20 percent amber trichomes cause I want a milder high. Pics attached...
Clean that floor up lol

People in here are telling you to quit looking at trichomes yet here you are still saying you're looking at trichomes and can't see shit with your old eyes. We're literally in here trying to make it easier on you but you refuse to listen. You're contradicting your own first two points!

Looking at a whole plant is easier than tiny trichomes, I think....a ripe plant was posted in this thread as well, get your magnifying glass up to your screen, and take a look. Granted not every plant will look like that but a good rule of thumb is if it is covered in white hairs, it aint done...(regardless of breeder claims of 8-9 weeks).

Or chop it at the end of week 10 after you flush like you have planned anyway. Some people need a few bad grows of their own to really learn, I guess.

You really can not speak for all newbies here. You can only speak for yourself. Further there are frustrations when dealing with the different type of newbies. Everyone brings themselves to the grow game. Some people are obstinate, others intellectually limited, others are simply mean and frustrated. Then you get to the sock troops that come here simply to fuck with the community. Certainly good people with open minds show up as well but it's a melange of interests and intents.

After you've been here awhile and see the same exact question and the same exact determination to destroy a grow and then those are the guys out 'helping' the newest, essentially the youtube jockeys that haven't even grown themselves but are sure they are broscience experts it's easy to become a bit jaded.

I think the guys in the grow forums do a lot of heavy lifting for free and the occasional frustration is to be expected. Good luck on your grow.

No i was saying that's what I was doing. Meaning before I read the post. I wanted him to know I was on my way to making the same mistake, and that by paying attention to his post I can now avoid it. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. Yeah I saw the photo of the plant too! A little reading comprehension would tell you I want a few more details. As for your last point I agree, you'll learn more from a fuck up than a success. As this is a first grow I'm happy to make it this far, but I planned on total failure! So with that in mind I've had nothing but success so far. It doesnt matter if I get 1 gram or one pound. Winners never quit, and quitters never win! Popcorn anyone?

I see what you're saying. I apologize for my misunderstanding.

Change your mindset bro...you're here learning and you're not gonna grow shit plants. You're gonna make it to harvest, you're not going to fail and you're going to get several ounces. Gotta think positive, I say.

No problem, no apology needed. I will say my mindset is cool and mellow, and my glass is half full. When I started I felt like everything had to be perfect, had to work, had to be this or that. And as you know everything went south. Things didn't get better until I said fuck it! When I decided not to expect anything but experience my blood pressure came back into normal range. Now I'm on the brink of finishing and feel pretty good.

I know what you mean, honestly I do. The problem is well known members have flaws too. Well known and experienced are two different things. To give you an example, last Sunday I was just a member. Sometime between Monday and Wednesday I became a well known member! Ha, haven't made through a single grow in over 30 years! Well known members have a habit of being very opinionated. Look at this post it's opinion. My local expert says watch the plant too, but emphasized the importance of trichomes and why it's good to look at them too. Clear = not ready. Cloudy = head high. Amber = couch lock. Mixture of cloudy and amber is good thing. All depends on the effects your looking for. Opinion! People are telling the OP to throw his stuff away. Let him taste it, he might like the high and hate the taste, bet he'll focus on dry and cure next time. Good advice and constructive criticism is good, if a well known member is sick of the same shit, then move on to the next post. Just my opinion, who ever said you have to answer?

Sorry I meant newbie to growing not a title on a grow forum. As for trichomes, did you know that some of the pure equatorial Sativas stay clear to harvest?

The only thing you need to do towards the end of a grow is have patience.

Do not follow flowering times set out by seed companies.

Wait for all pistils to recede.

Wait for calyx to swell and begin to change colour, the calyx will actively change from a lush green to more of orange or purple hue depending on strain.

the end of the calyx will begin to form a pointy bit where the pistil comes out of.

this is a sign of ripeness no magnifying glass required as you’re now within the window.

2nd Method to Identify Harvest Time: Trichome Method
(how to harvest cannabis using the accurate method)

This harvest method tends to be more precise than looking at the pistils of your cannabis plant.

Look at trichomes under a magnifier to harvest cannabis buds with the desired THC levels

Ever hear of Thin Slicing?
Someone with experience can tell just by looking at it.

Yeah, but titles on a grow forum are misleading a newbie to the forum thinks "hey this MF'er knows what he's talking about" and that ain't the case all the time. Also Like anything there is always gonna be something that isn't the norm. So generally speaking trichomes are a good way to help decide when to pull the trigger. The plant tells a lot of the story but unless you know what to look for it isnt the only story. as you can see on my last post the writer at grow weed easy is convinced that looking at trichomes is the most accurate way to determine harvest time. His point is counter to most opinions in this post. Opinion right?

I believe the trichomes tell the first part of the story, they show! Then you look at them every day or so and you judge the buds greedily wondering how much will I get and how soon. At that point you wait for time to pass and you start looking at the plant and the structure of the bud, calyx, pistols, color, density. Then you wait more and the plant itself starts showing signs that she's ready. The leaves start yellowing, if you know what your doing your flushing and waiting for the day. If you dont know what your doing you add cal-mag! For those who know what to do now is when you start looking at trichomes, they should at least be cloudy for most strains. If they are cloudy you can say I'll cut them down or let them brown up a bit more. When you see the pistols curl back into the calyx and its swelling you do the same thing. You look at the trichomes and decide if you want to go a couple of more days or start chopping now. At that point you can! Safely! From both sides of the story.... From there experience will tell you how cloudy and amber you want "your" plants to be at harvest based on the effects you got from your style of grow. I don't want couchlock or headache weed so to me I aint worried about the calyx and pistol as much as I'm worried about the percentage of cloudy and amber trichomes. The calyx and pistols say I'm ready the trichomes tell me to go ahead and do it. Worked 40 years ago and should work now.

No I havent heard of thin slicing, I havent grown since the 70's, actually I used a Phototron in the late 80's early 90's but thats little different. I agree that experienced growers just Know when by looking. Still though I 'm pretty sure I know what to do, but I look at both the plant and the trich's. I'm growing for a particular type of effect so it's just a process of finding the strain that I like and dialing it in. once thats done I'll always know until I change strains. You can get different effects from the same strain based on maturity at harvest as well as drying and curing time, and thats outside of pheno questions. Trichome development plays a major role in how mature the bud is and when you want to harvest, where the calyx, and pistols tell you that your in the window. Both ways work. I may not have said that perfectly but hopefully you know what I mean. To give another example, I like couch lock for when I'm in pain and just want to be able to sleep, but my wife doesnt like that and won't smoke it. She likes a get up and clean the house then start shit with her husband type of buzz. Back in the day I would look at trichomes when I harvested and separate branches that had heavy amber on my side and cloudy trich's on her side. then I would have the mixed 50/50 stuff in the middle. 3 effects, one plant! Brilliant! Aint Broscience hilarious? For me it's not how high, but what type of high.

If you were in a true 9 week period for flowering I think you did a good job for first grow around,,Hind sight is always 20-20 learn from mistakes,,No one has to like it but you! always pay attention to photo period when purchasing seeds from the candy stores lots of BS descriptors out there if you have plants that take 10 weeks to mature they would be taken out of rotation last year........Enjoy the Journey
