well, here's what I say. Bush fires any General that disagrees with his imperialistic plans, so the ones left are the assclowns that do his bidding to the letter. You should check out all the generals that he has fired and get their opinions on Iraq, they differ quite a bit from Gen. Petraeous. Petraeous is mimiking the bush agenda word for word. He might not have been sent a letter to tell him what to say, but he knew before he went on this surge fiasco what he had to say in september. Hey, don't forget, I was a sedan driver for a while and I watched how these officers operate, they have to butt kiss the guy above them or they never get promoted. This Iraq report is a sham.

dude your wrong, bush asked a general: can you fix this general? can you make it all better?

and the good general believes he can, hes is a trained inteligent soilder and he thinks he can do it. so it wasnt that he knew what he was going to say in september, he was confident he could do this, infact he new he could (so did I by the way) and then BOOM!!! boom! the man is delivering, he is delivering! and all the apes and the monkeys started screemin and squackin (present company excluded ofcoarse :bigjoint:)

what a weird world it would be if somone actully got credit for doing an excelent job

thats what democrats like to do, they like to punish people for being outstanding, imaginative, and succssful at thier jobs, they punish ambition when you think of it all these things are what stand in the way of more control for them, its really how comunist states begin, im scaring myself i think i smoked too much.

Here's a little insight for you, the Iraqis point of view, afterall, didn't we go there to help them?.....
The Fakery of General Petraeus: What Iraqis Think About the Surge
By PATRICK COCKBURN

At first sight the Petraeus report looks as if it is going to be one of those spurious milestones in the war in Iraq, (like the Iraq Study Group’s report last December), heavily publicized at the time, but not affecting the political and military stalemate in the country.

Unfortunately, the propaganda effort by the White House now underway may have a more malign impact than most propaganda exercises. It claims that victory is possible where failure has already occurred. It manipulates figures and facts to produce a picture of Iraq that is not merely distorted but substantively false.

The ‘surge’, the dispatch of 30,000 American reinforcements, was announced by President Bush on January 10 as a bid to regain control of Baghdad and reduce the level of violence. But the achievements are more apparent than real. The Interior Ministry in Baghdad says that 1,011 people died violently in Iraq in August, but an official at the ministry revealed to the US news agency McClatchy that the true figure for the month is 2,890 killed.

The truest indicator of the level of violence in Iraq is the number of people fleeing their homes because they are terrified that they will be murdered. According to the UN High Commission for Refugees the number of refugees has risen from 50,000 to 60,000 a month and none are returning.

Iraqi society is breaking down. It is no longer possible to get medical treatment for many ailments because 75 per cent of doctors, pharmacists have left their jobs in the hospitals, clinics and universities. The majority of these have fled abroad to join the 2.2 million Iraqis outside the country.

The food rationing system on which five million Iraqis rely to stay alive is also breaking down with two million people no longer being fed because food cannot be distributed in dangerous areas. Rice and beans are of poor quality and flour, tea and baby formula are short. Unemployment is 68 per cent of the workforce, so without a state ration and no jobs, more and more Iraqis are living on the edge of starvation.

No wonder then that what Iraqis believe is happening to them and their country is wholly contrary to the myths pumped out by the White House and the Pentagon. The opinion poll commissioned by ABC news, the BBC and Japanese Television NHK and published yesterday shows that 70 per cent of Iraqis say that their security has got worse during the last six months when the US increased the number of its US troops in Baghdad and surrounding provinces. A solid 57 per cent believe that attacks on coalition forces are acceptable. Some 93 per cent of Sunni approve such attacks and 50 per cent of Shia also back them.

Interestingly, 46 per cent of Iraqis believe that full-scale civil war would be less likely if the US withdrew before civil order is restored. Some 35 per cent say it would be more likely to occur.

There are some other telling statistics showing the differences between the Shia and Sunni communities. Some 30 per cent of Shia Arabs say the security situation in their neighborhood has become better in the last six months and 21 per cent say it is getting worse. But more than half the Sunni -- 56 per cent -- say their security is worse and only 7 per cent say it is better. These figures confirm the belief that the Sunni are being pushed out of Baghdad or into small enclaves within the city.

Ever since the summer of 2003 the US has never admitted the political and military consequences of the lack of support for the occupation outside Kurdistan. The latest poll shows that 79 per cent of Sunni and 59 per cent of Shia have no confidence at all in the US and UK forces.

This basic lack of support for the occupation undermines the elaborate tactics which Gen David Petraeus is supposedly carrying out in Baghdad and elsewhere in Iraq. The US and Britain have been training Iraqi forces for four years now without producing Iraqi units willing to fight alongside them. The difficulty is not equipment or training but legitimacy and loyalty.

At the start of yesterday’s Congressional hearings congressmen asked how it was that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki was unable to produce a power sharing government. The answer is that he was not elected to do so. He was elected because the United Iraqi Alliance, the coalition of Shia parties, won the greatest number of seats in the December, 2005 general election and formed a government in alliance with Kurdish nationalist coalition. Some 54 per cent of Shia Arabs now support the government and 98 per cent of Sunni Arabs disapprove of it.

The Shia know they are 60 per cent of the population and are suspicious that the US is endlessly trying to find ways of robbing them of the power they were denied for centuries under the domination of Sunni Arabs who are only 20 per cent of Iraqis. They are deeply worried that the US is in effect creating a Sunni militia under US control by turning the Anbar Sunni tribes against al Qaida in Iraq.

The Shia leaders also notice that President Bush visited Anbar and not Baghdad earlier this month (though he may also have been seeking to to avoid the mortar bombs which rain down on the Green Zone these days to greet visiting foreign dignitaries).

Essentially there is a political and military stalemate in Iraq which the US ‘surge’ has not changed. The departure of Mr Maliki under pressure from the US would produce no more benefits than the sacking of his predecessor Ibrahim al-Jaafari last year. So-called moderate politicians like Iyad al-Allawi have limited local support though he has been heavily backed by the Sunni Arab states.

All the players in the Iraq tragedy who were present at the beginning of the surge in January are still there. Thanks to the US there are more militias than there used to be. General Petraeus might make a case for saying that the US position in Iraq is not much worse, but it is certainly no better.

i tried to just pass this up but i couldn't.

the generals are soldiers too, let's please not debase them to the status of criminals for dutifully carrying out their orders. if you like them or not, those men send other men to die everyday and i have a serious problem when people assume that they are callous killers who don't have regard for the lives of those in their command.

me and you can sit here and talk about this all day but those men sign the papers and make the calls when people die. the armed forces are pawns in this and it's just not right to accuse people based on nothing more than political hate.

keep posting and saying what you think but think about what you say...
so there is no difference between a general and a soldier? come on, man. you know what i mean.

i said what i think and i'll say it again. the enlisted soldiers are grunts. pawns. footmen. this is not how I veiw them, rather our government. they see the loss of American lives as absolutely nothing toward the aim of achieving their goal of dominance over that region. when you volunteer to be in the army, you're agreeing to go and do WHATEVER they say.

a general, on the other hand, can object to the war and get fired. He actually has a voice that the American people would listen to because of his privileged position of oversight. No one cares if a couple of soldiers aren't happy. But if a General has problems, it might carry some water.

Can you appreciate the difference now? Any General that continues to support a war on false premises has just loss face with myself and many other Americans. Yes, they all have a job to do. And to stand down when called upon is contrary to their spirit. But I have much more respect for those that stood up to the bullshit, than i do for those who continue to dish it out.

Unfortunately in this war, your damned if you do and your damned if you don't by the media. Everyone seems very fast to hang generals out to dry these days, maybe its fashionable, I wish I knew.

I have had the privelage of serving 3 times in three different combat zones under probably the single best commanding general in modern history. Lt. Gen James Mattis who was crucified for calling it like he sees it and keeping Marines morale high. I remember him speaking to Task Force 58 at Khandahar Airport on Christmas 2001 and saying, "We will keep killing until the killing is done." Now before all you tree huggers fly off the handle on that statement let me put things into perspective and I don't expect anyone who has not ever been in that type of environment to understand. Task Force 58 was basically a pack of wild dogs, we didn't fuck around and we knew why we were there, to kill and thats the bottom line. To make a long story short we was chastised for saying that men who force women to wear a veil and beat them if they don't, deserve to die and he would enjoy killing them. I am in agreement with this statement and if you're not well convert to Islam and go smack your wife around, if that makes you feel better. Lt. Gen Mattis was then told by the commandant of the Marine Corps to watch what he says and be more politically correct.

Now to get to Gen. Petraeus, the man went before congress and was politically correct. There are things about this war and war in general that the public does not need to know. Why? Because YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW WAR IS FOUGHT, NEEDS TO BE FOUGHT, AND THE SACRIFICES BY THOSE THAT DO FIGHT. And is now being hung by a government that gave him his stars and a country that he has sworn to serve and protect not to mention the media but, hey if the news reports it, it has to be right, right? People that get all there information from news reports are idiotic and stupid. Talk about the blind leading the blind.

Its funny, I do not like movies about war because its almost like painting an angel, nobody ever gets it right because there is more to it than black and white, there is feeling involved. But, I always find myself going back to one of the best written lines in the history of cinema;

Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

i still don't believe that this general lacks integrity. so what if Bush happened to find a general who's beliefs line up with his? it doesn't mean that the general isn't genuine.

i see what you're saying, but you're still on the verge of not getting what the job of the general (in general) is all about. they can and do quit when they don't like something and they also have worked very hard to get where they are. we need to give the man enough credit to think that he just might actually believe in what he's doing! he has a Ph.D. from princeton, i believe, and could leave the military today to make much more money if that's what he wanted to do... he doing this work for the country, he's not working under the same assumptions that you are, let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

Thank you for your service Chris, I salute you, and yes kill them, kill them, get rid of them.

its funny cuz all those guys we are fighting are not well educated and are indoctornated very badly, thats how fachist terroist leaders get them to kill themselves in attacks. I know cuz I am a palistinian refugee, but lucky I am way too intellegent to be indocternated, however when I was younger and not so very inteligent as I am now, I felt differently. to be honest I was taught to hate jews thoughout my young life and I dont really blame the people that taught me that because thier lives were destoyed by the israilis and they were just victoms, watching the suicide attacks on young israil gurls and woman and children on tv evertime an incident happend I used to think, fuckem serves em right. But I was young and stupid. I feel ashamed of my own thoughts back then. But Im all grown up now and know better than that, I feel bad for the people that dont. and the ones who murder shall be murdered that is my wish.

the thing about arabs which any arab will tell you is they are stubborn as fuck, i mean we lost the war against isreal 50 years ago, and these fools are still teach thier poor kids to kill them. Thats not a responsible parent who does this. all the surrounding arab counties let these palitinians live in squaler acting like they care about them, but really they like to have them look as rageddy as possible just so they can say see see look what the isralis are doing, see doing that deflects thier people anger from their bad and dictitorial governance to the "others"

its really sad, even more sad to see ignorent people on here who know nothing as my friend chris here has said, and spew thier stupidity

Well, hoorah to you two heros, me I'm just a lowly viet nam vet, so I suppose my opposition to this war makes me stupid and a freakin commie. But anyway I could care less what you two self proclaimed heros think. This is an un-necessary war fought for profit and oil. Your inability to see this has clouded your perspective and made you the victim of right wing neo-conic imperialistic politics. You know, the old put some lipstick on the pig syndrome. You two can go on and on waving flags and calling us war protesters names, but unless you are totally brainwashed, there should be a little crack of light shinning through. Whose benefitting from the war? Certainly not the Iraqis. 90% of them want us out ASAP. Certainly not the brave men and women that are sacrificing so much, losing their lives, their limbs, their minds, and their familys. So who is it? Yeah, you guessed it, it is the war contractors and Big oil, all of whom are buddies with Dubya and his buddies. I realize you are probably too brainwashed to realize this, Hey just give it a try. Look up the names of those corporations that are involved in supporting this war. you'll find they are also the main contributors to the Bush campaigns. Semper-FI to you too.

the opposite of death is birth..

the opposite if LIFE - there is no opposite.. life IS..

and the choice to live or not to live is NOT a choice.. it is an illusion that ONE can see through.. or one can defend ONEs own ignorance...

it is always happy weather.... it is being responsible fro oneself... it is stopping the blame and realizing that I manifest all my fate.... it is called love... it is called being a bad ass.. it is called, standing so steady and so INTENT that even the wind goes around me...

its called fun.. its called a PLAYGROUND... it's called being aware.. of awareness itself..... it's called accepting everything.. and accepting that ONE can not accept everything.... its called POWER... raw, unadulterated power..

not that trickleof power that SELF preseervation of the DELUSION, ILLUSION runs on...

the fred flinstone car is out dated.. WHY don;'t you get out and pick up your new ride.. it is waiting for you.. and the weather is awesome!!

and the choice to live or not to live is NOT a choice.. it is an illusion that ONE can see through.. or one can defend ONEs own ignorance...

it is always happy weather.... it is being responsible fro oneself... it is stopping the blame and realizing that I manifest all my fate.... it is called love... it is called being a bad ass.. it is called, standing so steady and so INTENT that even the wind goes around me...

its called fun.. its called a PLAYGROUND... it's called being aware.. of awareness itself..... it's called accepting everything.. and accepting that ONE can not accept everything.... its called POWER... raw, unadulterated power..

not that trickleof power that SELF preseervation of the DELUSION, ILLUSION runs on...

the fred flinstone car is out dated.. WHY don;'t you get out and pick up your new ride.. it is waiting for you.. and the weather is awesome!!

a man walks through a door. He sees things. he walks out of the door.

that is Garden

the door is the enterance to life and also the exit.

I walked through the door, I see things, I do my best. i walk out the door so my son can walk in.

I hope the things he sees are better, I hope I helped make them better for him before I walked out that door. Im not perfect, but I hope I made it better for him.

that is the differnce between your and my arguments :weed:
