Thoughts on the XXXL Magnum 6" Reflector, or any reflector? :)

I am in the market for a 6" (That's the ducting hole size) Air cooled reflector... I am currently looking. At the XXXL Magnum reflector and I was wondering if that is a good idea . Size is not a problem btw ... If you have any better ideas than that please share and please share any pictures of your set up too

The room is 3 width, 3 lenght, 6 height (All in feet) and I will be growing SCROG 600w hid (Thought people would know what type of light because 6" ducting should only be used for 400w and 600w )

A Magnum is a very good choice for your setup. As for the size of the ducting, many, many growers run 1Ks on 6" ducts, myself included. Quite honestly, I've never even heard of such a thing until now. Good luck.

Thanks , read it the other day... If you want max cooling and want to get close to your plants you use 8" ducting for 1k up and 6" for 400w to 600w and 4" for 150w to 250w... That's if you are serious about cooling and ventilation... (On the more air you can shift the cooler it will be, basis)... I think that is a good rule of thumb also because its doesn't cost you more if you get a 6" or a 8" (That's what I've seen)... Oh well

i would think that running a 400w or 600w bulb in a xxxl reflector would be a waste. you're just gonna be throwing light outside of the footprint anyway. i'd go with a smaller hood. xxxl's are more for 1000w or bigger bulbs where you need to carry that usable light to a larger footprint.

you can run a 1000w on 6" ducting. when you get around 2-3 in a string then you need to switch to 8"

that same supplier will have other sun system hoods. just get the yield master or the cool sun.

Thanks I will do that's if they have it (Its africa you know , we have lions running around in the streets here :/ ) If not I'm sure that magnum will be okay, with a 600w?

lol...yea, i forgot about the lions. the xxxl will be fine with a 600w but just not ideal. you'll actually probably lose a little light intensity but shouldn't be an issue.

http://www.greners.com/reflector-test.html It's up to you how much faith you can put into the stats lol...but at least it's a start...and it looks pretty legit to me. It will be tough in a 3x3x6 setup...the Magnum XXXL is 35.5" wide...not much room for error...the Blockbuster is only 25.5" wide. The XXXL spreads light a little too thin IMO...it's 10" longer and 1/2" shallower than the Blockbuster so you can imagine that the angles of which it reflects light are more outward rather than directed downward like some of the other/smaller reflectors. I personally wouldn't go with an oversized reflector with your setup, but at the end of the day it's your garden so you should get the one you want...if you do, a mogul to mogul adapter will help center the bulb. Sunlight Supply makes/wholesales great products. Good luck in your search.

It doesn't have to be a XXXL reflector just not a XXXS reflector (XXXS reflector is a Joke, Don't come troll me that stupid asshole) anyways thanks for your help and I will see what I can find

James, I use BlockBuster hoods. They would be great for your 3x3x6, Imo. The 600w bulb would be sufficient as well.

I talked to the sunlight supply rep before choosing my reflectors and he said the best for 3x3 footprint is the smaller Super Sun 2 and for a 4x4 footprint is the Blockbuster. The larger magnum xxl reflector is made for 5x5 footprint and shorter plants. A 600 hps only has so much light coverage anyway so why wast it going out on the sides. I use 2 blockbusters with 1000 hps's in a 4x8 tent and a super sun 2 with a 600 hps in a 3x3 tent and they work great. The bigger hoods may look better but that doesn't mean they work as good. When I first set up the 4x8 tent I had 2 of the huge raptor reflectors and after the first grow I changed them out because I was loosing all the light to the sides instead of horizontal. If your growing short plants you might be okay but for my needs I like haze's and sativa's so the lower buds get enough light. I also checked the footprint with a light meter and even tho the raptor looked brighter to the eye the light pressure per sq ft was not as good.

if you're trying to cover a 5' wide space with your lights then go with the xxxl hoods. if you are trying to cover a 4' space then get the smaller hoods like the blockbuster, yield master, cool sun, etc.

Well, 4' is basically a factor of the floor space......~8' x 12'....And 6 lights(2 rows of 3 parallel).

I guess another factor is how well the hoods are cooled...I'm running the room sealed(CGE) with a 2 ton mini split a/c...Pulling both rows of 3 lights with a multi-flow 10" Fantech that should rock the shit out of them though.
