400w HPS question.

How does the hydroponics works? are the plants always on water? I'm having trouble understanding hydro. like I was just looking at this DWC system

Are the plants laying on top of the water/ferts?

the lady i harvested had 4weeks veg and she was around 18-24 inches she finished flower 9weeks later at around 36-40inches.

recommended veg is usually 1-2months flowering indica 7-9weeks depending on conditions
sativa flowering time 13-15weeks again depending on conditions

You can always use LST low stress training bending and tying the main growth stems and branches to generate more colas to stop height issues

the plants grow in the pebbles depending on type of system some use
DRIP FEED
FLOOD AND DRAIN
the drip system has maybe a 100litre tank to run 4 pots you then set using the controls when to drip and how much eg 1litre to each pot per hour etc
flood and drain is exactly that a water tank again maybe a 100litre is feeding 6 pots you set it to flood maybe once every day. this then floods the pots and then drains away.

when using hydro there are alot of tests to run ppm,ec,ph,temp of nutes etc if you are growing for the first time either use soil or do like i did and use COCO COIR just like soil. and i hand water it. that way you are getting the experience of a hydro medium keeping ph's stable etc but because you hand water each pot is not conected to the same 100litre tank therefore any plant problems are usually localised to one plant rather than all plants

Ohhh okay. I see but don't the roots stay in the water? Ain't that like overwatering? or that's not a problem.

The rule of thumb with lighting is 50W per square foot. Grams per watt is a good indicator of how omptimal everything in the grow went. With artificial lighting you are better off having a higher ammount of small plants because the light can't penetrate very far through the canopy. My last grow was four plants under a 400 watt light. I started the flowering cycle when they were around 2 feet and I wish I did it earlier because the buds on the lower branches weren't great. I ended up with a little more than 4 oz of decent bud though.

So they were 4 feet in total?

the best thing you can do is germinate some seeds and start growing soil coco pellets whatever you choose just get started and start learning.

then always look to improve on what you have. initially (first week) i spent $300 150ish GBP to setup a closet grow then since 1st JAN i've been spending a bit each week buying things like mh bulb for veg after this grow pk1314 new pots ph moist meter etc just little bits. Granted i have spent somewhere around $1000 or 650GBP on lots of little things but once my current grow ends i could easily keep on going for another 12months without needing to buy anything.

Thanks a lot guys for your all your help. guess I will start off with Soil and see how that goes from there. So if I'm 4" plant I will need a 4 gallon pot? will flower 2" and I hear it doubles. 1 more question if I LST will be better for more buds? and whats Srog?

the taller they are the more nodes (branches) they will have which in turn means more bud sites .
:bigjoint:
not true, you can have a tall plant with longer spaces between nodes or a short plant with short spaced nodes, you should aim for tight spaced nodes and short plant

So I'm planing to build a setup for about 4 plants. What I'm worry about is when I make the holes for the intake fans etc.. How would I block light from going into the hole when they are in 12/12? I will have them in my room sometimes I sleep with my lights on... Thanks Guys!

run your vents with ducting attached make sure you use some sort of bug screen to stop any nasties.

if you use LST then this will generate more main colas by sending the most auxins to the highest part of the plant then you bend it peg it and the auxins move to the highest part again.

1ft - 1 gallon
2ft - 2 gallon

you know the rule stop worrying

Thanks a lot.. Yeah I just want to make sure I know my stuff...

Oh and how would I go about Odor for 2-4 plants... what options do I have for that.

Something simple. Thanks.

I wouldn't let them get that tall. IMO it would be better to use 6-8 plants in 8 inch pots and start them flowering at no more than 12 inches.

LST and Scrog are cool but they take more veg time and you have to mess around with your plants a lot. SOG is the best way to get the most bud out of a small area in the least ammount of time. It's also simpler than LST and Scrog

You might be interested in growing like this: https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/6592-get-harvest-every-2-weeks.html
He says he puts clones straight into flowering, which confused me at first, but he uses 8" tall clones. They also grow faster because he has his shit down.

Well I been looking and I think the Scrog method would be best for me. say 1 plant in a 2 gallon pot. under 400HPS 4x4 space ? I think I will SOG when I start learning how to clone... How would I be able to start a little cycle like that harvest every 2 weeks with a 400HPS ? how would I go about that. Thanks a lot.

The perpetual grow (harvesting every two weeks or so) works better when you have multiple lights and/or more powerful lights. That way you can keep a light lower so it is close to the smaller plants and another light up higher for the taller plants. If I was doing it under a 400W light I would put about 12 plants in a 3X3 area all at the same time (I wouldn't try to go for the perpetual grow under a 400). The SOG method works much better in a hydroponics system, particularly a flood table. So if you're looking to move to hydro after your ScrOG grow then I highly reccommend SOG. The transition to hydro isn't tough as long as you do enough research on it. That last thread along with this one: https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/94811-al-b-faqt.html will tell you just about everything you need to know.

I had used a 400 watt MH veg/ HPS flower for my first indoor dwc grow. I used a DIY 22 gallon dwc bucket and got around 12 ozs. BUT I also used a decent strain. What got me the most yield to tell the truth is just reading up about what you going to do. Plus don't forget the golden rule for newbs less is better. Better to not burn than to burn.

As far as DWC goes air pump + air stone + bucket of water. Pretty simple to make the bubbler. Just you need to keep in my that with a hydroponic based system you gotta get a ph meter, tds meter, and a water temp gauge.

"I sleep wit the lights on!!!!" OMG how old are you? second instead of asking alot of stupid questions learn to google first. The last 5-6 questions u asked were easily found anywhere, on this forum even, from past dumbdumbs like u

well this does not apply to this guy, but i got got a 4x4x6.5 grow tent with a 400watt hid and i got 6 wonder women plants in 4 gallon buckets, if i were to hook a 4in tube up to the intake and was running on my tredmill and was breathing in it how much will that help the plants grow
