A hasty hydro: 3x Wonder pie (3rd gen clones in one bucket, 15L) 2*Led, Bubbler, Remo

Hi folks! So, my very first diary. After a decade or so...I wanted to share this mess of a grow since the popo came visit me last fall...

This strain is fairly common type for my choice, I took some clones from a wonder pie plant that was just popped and it showed great characteristics for yielding and maintenance. It's a rock-solid, "short/wide"-grow pheno with nice branching, going about 56 to 59 nights to harvest in hydroponics at a stable light rhythm.

I began with 3 clones really close dying, kept in still water for over 1,5 months - they were all over purple and so sick. My brother's cat liked them though so I had to feed him one of the four I had. Worth it for sure!

Anyways, first pictures are taken one week after the transplant, when they began to grow again. I battled rootzone infections for a good 3 weeks in the veg which was about 4 weeks altogether. Easy veg indeed, at that point I just threw something in my 80 by 80cm tent and only had one small DWC container.
At the start I used 100W viparspectra panel with ir & far red, todogrow's hiroshimas(2) came for use at the beginning of flowering running at 220 Watts with the addition of UV diodes.

Using Remo nutrients as its quite fun although expensive. Air pump is silent 400L/hour so plenty for even two of that size reservoirs.
Large, flat airs tones were chosen as roots always try to take over everything, especially when doing these "+15g/L res" sets.

The environment sucks really. Ambient temp is at least 25°c so DWC is a challenge I accept, so far.
Late veg I got humidifier and I can't figure why i haven't had one earlier. Winters are difficult for the veg.
Also this is my last hydro set for a while.. ..them aromas.

So now two weeks of flowering behind, and looks like this 15L is gonna push over 300g quite safely, maybe even the magical 380 if not suffocated...

I'll keep it coming and can answer missing info for sure. Free fire anyways, I'm bored. Later gonna sort this out to look fine.

One week since planted in net pot, green again.

Keeping them wet so i can manage foliage better. Also too fast transpiration at that point so Magnifical runs out too fast.

Forgot to move branches after last defoliage so they look funny...20230917_194038.jpg

Good light from above for the picture...note the angle for better penetration. Panels are designed for 0.2m² more so 80% power for now. On week 4 will be full power the whole week if median temperature at daytime won't go over 29°c.20230917_194029.jpg

Added a small bottom led as I left multiple fan leafs to bottom w/out nodes...

So far nutrients have been about 90% of the schedule with a selected boost here and there, 2 half-day flushes has been done. Roots are repairing just in time, it seems. Pics aren't that useful because of the ambient heat, Remo's organic parts and the later appeared rootbound- like situation that is under monitoring. Water used is soft tap, pre- bubbled for some 1-3 days depending on my houseplants etc. No notable fluctuation in ph...

So what to add..hmm.. first two weeks they veg quite freely which after I didn't see any domination among them. then started controlling direction and did first defoliating, didn't see a reason for topping or heavy super cropping. some minor chiro and bending, using net as help in tricky situations. Plan is self-supporting plants as hydro should be done that way IMHO. Took off only about two branches even though being lazy in the early veg - I really didn't count on these surviving fast enough to make room for something useful. Bud shots coming up in a week or so!

This appartment is not for gardening I can tell that! Atm doing all reasonable to solve the issue but chilling water (I'm missing a freezer lol) isn't an option right now.

Bathroom is barely twice the size of the tent so it heats up really easily towards plants' night time which starts about 7am.
This time I forgot to tune intake (which I pretty much manually tune from a single window on the opposite side of the apartment). I have some ducting going from the bathroom through my lounge for faster exchange, such an eye candy that :hump:

Outer temp is from reservoir air since rootzone stuff still going on.

Normally highest temps go as high as about 31 degrees for an hour, last night was warmer than usual for like 5 degrees. I can drop it to 28 for now, certainly 27-25 can be done in the critical weeks coming.

A few pics....these buds are so small and stalky since the pheno and 3rd gen cuttings, afterall...

Minor bending on top sugar leaves followed by too fast uptake by heat, nothing to worry as fresh water in tank, ph 5.9. I don't have nor have I ever had anything else but a ph meter. Rough way to learn plant physics - ec meter in the early years would have made so much less over-fertilization. It was a chosen way in order to deeply learn plant matter just for the sake of botanicals....would use no ph meter either but with DWC practically impossible for a proactive result, which is one of the key factors in all gardening.

Update

Yesterday began rising nutrient dosage to meet full blooming plan and they took it quite nicely it seems.

Temperature floating at 25-29°c with hottest being made manually by timer, exceeding 2 to 4 degrees, humidity follows as needed. No more raven claws appearing.

I need more exhaust power: now I have this noisy 200m³/h inline fan with the addition of some small pc fans ziptied together from an old active-cooled blue led I disassembled, they might add something about 50m³/h in the duct.
With my cheap ass leds from Spain
(less than 80€ per piece for 150W, 2.1 efficiency)
I need about 350m³/h total hence the ambient temperature I can't control - otherwise it's gonna be 650 PPFD at tops.

No further burning in leaves. Drinking enough, ph raises about 0.4 per day - I'm curious to see if its the damaged roots or calcium that is raising the ph. I'll wait until the last before doing root pruning, it should been done weeks ago to be honest.

Nutrients went 20ml/10L
with micro and kelp only 12ml/10L

Getting optimal temps just in time. I tried to prune the roots but almost nothing came off just small flakes. Oh well, at least the colouring isn't bothering anymore. Tell me this does not look like root rot in the beginning!

20230920_075354.jpg

Current conditions: All values consistent, ph stable, full nutrient plan, 80% power on leds (gonna put them 100% in a couple days)
Grow area getting 750-850 PPFD
Too moist though. Might get a dehumidifier bag, I saw them on discount the other day

Some extra leaves there but I'll keep them as this strain tastes way sweeter from the shade

Took some fast shots to show some detail

20230924_013142.jpg 20230924_013109.jpg 20230924_013218.jpg 20230924_013125.jpg

Poor scope for now, almost no use
20230924_014245.jpg 20230924_014310.jpg 20230924_014314.jpg

Also adjusted lights accordingly to bud development, they came down a few centimeters so power is now only 70% (210W), basically loosing nothing in the end product.
Vegetative light should've been more uniform for scrogging in that matter, outer edges were just too weak. Leveled with mains and contained mainstems but still lacked too much.

Things are looking good which in this kind of a trio is more than I dared to hope for. Great nutes for healing root system! Gave a boost of natures candy, a quarter more . Ph running steady now even with almost empty reservoir near end of water cycle which is about 6 days. This phenotype might even taste good on this run

Gotta run for the hardware store for some dehumidifier bags. Humidity won't come below 55% lights on, and I don't want to spoil the so-far transpiration rates combined with root health regarding nitrogen toxicity. They are on the edge of an imbalance all the time even though numerals are holding.

Some may wonder why there exists an imbalance within a DWC with Remo nutrients. Water temperature affects the most. Every two days it's down to 21°c with fresh water.
Water ambient temps around 24° (bacteria multiplies exponentially per 1° after 23°).
Protein denaturing.
Starting condition with clones was horrible. Rootzone almost dead with infections.

a note: water temperature is getting to the coveted 22 or below. Nights are near 5 degrees putside at the coldest.

Today a fresh reservoir exchange for the most important week or two. Aerated tap water 24hrs then firstly adding the more neutralizing/tolerating fluids like magnifical and bloom to make as good water "as possible" for the ladies. Not that it affects much tho.

(Edit)Might drop the lights a total of 30 minutes this time, previous generations have retained too much clear trichomes since they all had light stressing and some turbulence. It's a maybe for now, got uv and more of 3000K white comparing the previous lights...

Pre-update before lights turn on.

Didn't bother to change reservoir itself, it was doing just peachy. (Kelp and candy stain edges)

This cycle was 6 days, here the remains, about 5 liters (yesterday put 2L water in, ph was on the low 5.5).
100% plan applied, added a total of 3 liters water. One fill - used water amount was 24L of the 29L.
It's great!
20230930_155432.jpg

Tell me about lazy...12 liters, pumped in.
20230930_155921.jpg

Also took a small side branch off as a precaution, poor air flow at that part. A few inches long...CBG hits are always nice with an indica
Budshots coming in a few hours

Ph drops too much, roots not good atm. 3-4L of water per day to against a fresh batch. I'm glad this DWC will be the last for a while. Too expensive for my goals.
