It was a rental but still. I went back at night a week after when they were fixing it to feed my oscars and change the batteries on the air pumps I had set up. The power was turned off so we went in with flashlights. I went in my bedroom where the tank was and there was a shocked Mexican dude in our bed. I was like WTF, lol.

He said he worked late and was just crashing there for the night. Well I said OK, but was thinking WTF. He felt like an ass, lol.
That was the best, good laugh I've had all day! :p Great story :D

I already had a house fire from an electrical issue awhile ago. Luckily we were there and my wife smelled if before it got too bad. It was exciting for the neighbors, lol.
My old lady set the kitchen on fire. Smoke damage really bad. Landlady was cool about it. Said the place needed painting anyway. Almost at that moment a friend called and had concert tickets in Albuquerque for the Stray Cats and the Pretenders. Invited us for the weekend. Left just as painters were driving up. Great timing eh?

Got back the next week and here comes the landlady. Seems they were finished and had gone to lunch. They left a tarp piled up on the floor furnace. She was sorry but the smoke damage was even worse than the first time.

Because, exactly that! I'm not a freaking electrician! LOL. I have never had interest in that field. I want to trust a company that sell lights to make sure that their products are safe. And I'm not mad at spiderfarmer whatsoever, it's just a serious concern for ME personally. But I did mention yesterday that "maybe I might be overreacting" :eyesmoke: Wow I so high right now I just quoted myself. Anywhos, I'll just get in touch with Spiderfarmer and report back.
You're not overreacting. Shit melting on the unit is not acceptable. And no, you shouldnt need a cert in electronics to run a damn light.

I worked EMS for many years and house fires are the worst. To this day, there are certain substances that trigger my senses from those horrid scenes and it makes me physically ill.

Regardless of what type of lights you run, every grow should be equipped with at least one auto fire extinguisher.
Even a couple of these would do.

Hopefully Spider will make this right.
IMO, customer services carries equal weight to providing a quality product.

Maybe you could save your money and buy a new light that won't burn down your house? Any word back from @Spiderfarmerled ?
Probably sent out a refurb light as a prize.

Ya I know about that they need to be up to date with its charge. I don't see them readily available for sale at the local hardware stores. So, that's kinda the base of my question.

I just emailed my local Fire Dept. I'm sure they'll steer me the right direction. ;)
I thought houses were supposed to have one in the kitchen by law before you could move in. But that could be a Cali thing I’m not sure. And the fire dept should have a non emergency phone line. And they might even hook you up. Idk

Wow I've literally never heard of anything like that before. I live in Washington. It not like California. WA, is more of a fend for yourself kinda state. We don't usually allow the county officials to say what's Mandated in our homes or kitchens.

I think I had to have a fire extinguisher and as well had to provide proof of power That’s renting. Maybe owning is different

If it has a melted texture and you're pretty confident that it's something caused by heat, then definitely notify the manufacturer.
I contacted Spiderfarmer customer service yesterday. I sent them a pleasant description of the problem and how I've been running it. So maybe next week they'll get back to me about a solution to the problem! I hope, that is :bigjoint:

I keep a smoke/carbon detector and fire extinguisher around all my tents/grow areas. Nothing is worth your life. If you have the slightest suspension in anything in your grow eliminate it immediately.

Ok, so I have 2 spiderfarmer lights. 1 is a SF-1000 that I purchased. The other is a sf4000 that I won here on RIU!! Now that being said. I will now ask other RIU Crew Members if they've had a similar problem to this. NOTE THIS IS NOT A SMEAR CAMPAIGN ON SPIDERFARMER!! But my SF-1000 works great on a full term grow.. The sf-4000 I received from them as a prize, I Feel is defective!! And One Hell of a concern to me. I have only maybe 100 hours of use with it. And now its showing burn marks around the diodes and more so around the screws. This Is Freaking Me out, as I see nothing but a fire hazard in the making. Anybody else have this problem with spiderfarmer lights???

I run four sf1000s and one sf4000. Now I’m gonna check. I did notice my 1000s came with wires damn near falling out of driver tho. Other than that mine been great besides maybe my house not giving them the power they need I suspect. Since I been running all lights my wax melters won’t melt all the way anymore. That’s what I get for renting a old ass house I guess.

I'd definitely keep an eye on them 5 lights ya got. It seems like their lights are totally hit/miss amongst their Quality Control department. JM2C.
