Are 6 Plants too much for a 600?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew or had any information on this question. I will be flowering in a 4x4 tent, using supersoil as my growing medium, and plan to flower 6 plants in 5 gallon pots under a 600 watt light in the tent. Will that be too many plants for that much light? I realize that yield will not be as high because it is going to be crowded, but is it a bad idea from the start? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

4 will be enough unless you do a really short veg, and then you probably don't need 5 gallon pots. Get Smart Pots. Good luck man.

the problem with 6 in a 4x4, is you can't pattern them properly......six is a rectangle....not that it can't be done, but 4 is ideal, each getting 16 sq. ft....or you could do 9 tiny ones....set up as mainlined fours....but if i had a 4x4, i would do 4 mainlined 8's...and fill that bitch with 32 donkey dicks....i would also run them in 7/8 gal pots, as you will have plenty of room for root space in that footprint....cheers, nugs

I have a question: will roots adapt if say I make a 10-12" deep put but make it girthy will they grow wide when they can't go deep any longer? What's that stuff that you can make smart pots out of?

I have a 4x4x4 box with a 600 air cooled hood inside it so I don't have much verticle to work with. Yes I'm mainlining! Could I mainline a jillybean or a vortext in that space? What about 4 of them?

i did 6 (legal limit in OR) in a 4x4x7 last winter. Agent orange, Qrazy Train and Dairy Queen. using 4 gal pots. topped and lollypoped. but i had 2 600w and was getting 2-3oz per (6x2.5=15). when i did 4 untopped i got 4oz per plant (4x4=16). the DQ and AO did way better then the QT by about 50-100%, but the QT had 3x the bubble production from the trim. if you mainline a high yeilding strain and can get 3-4 per x6 = 21 then 6 would be the way to go. 6 will get crowded but it can be done with some good bondage and healthy climate. gonna need a small dehumidifier and . i wish i had gotten a 6x6 for 6 plants.

i air cooled them from outside 25-40F air and my temps stayed perfect 70-80 from oct - May PNW in a garage. i ran one when it was warmer out at night in the begining and end of winter, and 2 when it got colder. had to run a small heater during the dark. if you can cool 2 600s or a 600+400 then do it. but one 600 should get you 10-15oz every cycle if you maintain a healthy environment. i flowered at 12-18" in height.

hope this helps.

I agree 6 in 5 gallon pots is way too much. My vortex pheno, one of the 3, was the stretchiest plant Ive ever run. Its taller than me, so about 6' somethin.
If your set on 6, you could do 3 gallon smart pots, but like nug said that would only work well with a more rectangular hood.

If you let 4 get well rooted in 5 gallon pots before flipping, they will use every inch of that space.

I'm thinking of just mainling 4 pretty much every grow. last time I did 4 and got exactly 8oz I want to push that this time... I at least want to hit the gram per watt threshold.

...this is 8 plants, mainlined for 12-14 heads ea, in 7 gal. smarts, stuffed under two 600's side by side....there was 100 total heads, and yielded 36 zips.....but it was D-Train, which is infamous for big yields....it was however an F-1 test run!....so i am sure 40 zips can easily be achieved with my keepers #3 and #6...check out the super block-heads on #3....:leaf:

best thing you can do is read. read read read these stickys in this forum. Find the threads with 5 stars and read them. Then, dont worry about yield (cuz most likely your first grow wont be anywhere near what you want) and just focus on the best possible environment you can give your plants.

I'm in kindof the same position as you... I've got 6 females vegging in my 4x4 space under a 600. Gonna cull down to 4...

3 plants? That 400 can do that. The 600 fer darned sure, Lester. Both? Heat problems - air cooled hoods or not in that space.
