Honestly, that could be any number of things. But my first recommendation would be to do a clean install, wipe the drive (if not already) format to NTFS -- Your windows 7... is it pirated? If not, I assume you have the OEM disc -- in which case, there should be no hang ups..
No pirates here. I would go Linux before I would resort to piracy. Hell, I would even load Windows 2000 before I would steal software.

It's OEM. And it was a clean install on a new drive. I may try it again if I can't noodle this out.

Hmm. For the old system you can try flashing the CMOS by taking the battery on the motherboard off and then put it back in again. Not sure bout the new system, sounds like an install/hdd problem.

how can I get this fucking laptop to stop turning off?
Or just turn on long enough so I can sell it to a pawnshop?
i had a laptop that would turn off alll the time. i needed a new battery. the battery was $300 - it is a sony. Finally I broke down and got a new laptop.

I don't use the old one for much but I still have it. I leave it plugged in and it works ok.

Well, I was finally able to load the first Windows 7 service pack and that seems to have solved my problem on the 'new' system.

On to the old one. The new processor arrived. Installed it and the same thing occurred. Which leads me to believe my orginal hard drive may be the culprit after all. Next step: Install a known good HDD and try again. I have one of those drive extractors. I'll see what I can find out with that thing.

Fuck me. By the time I get that backup system up I will almost have enough components to put together a third system.

A backup for my backup. :wall:

You need one NAS box with 2 slots. Most can handle 3TB per slot. Thats 6TB... What The Fuck do you need 6TB for? I have close to 1000 movies... and that barely takes up 1.5TB, I have another 200,000 mp3 and thats barely 1TB.... I have barely used up 1 slot... And now that I have Netflix, I barely need the space for the movies anymore..

The first one looks to be A-OKAY! The Service Pack helped immensely. I also noticed that I had installed competing security applications. Bit Defender and McAfee do not work and play well together.

I appreciate everybody's help.

The second one. UGH! The HDD seemed fine when I hooked it up. I was able to remove everything I needed so I am leaning away from that now. I will still try the known good HDD just to be sure.

If that does not work, I'll be taking a second look at the power supply.

Im sorry i dont know batch #'s -- is it a 750 or a 520? one has 8mb front cache, the other 3mb -- very big diff. but from what i know, you can probably go from 2.66 to a solid 3.66 with little heat issue... im also not familiar with your heatsink... I can ask my buddy at intel what his thoughts are if you want..
It's a 2500k 3.3 Ghz.

This is the CoolIT E.C.O.

I'm thinking close to 5Ghz. Just waiting on my motherboard. It's on backorder. :(

Fuck, I'm running 7 TB now after just adding another 2 TB HP drive. Even with Netflix and satellite TV.

Mind you nearly every movie is Blu-Ray quality, I have every Pride Fighting event, UFC PPV, TUF season, 60 + different TV shows I watch on the regular, and pretty much every movie that comes out. All legal backups of course.......;-)

Between all the media sources, I should have this new 2 TB drive full in about 3 or 4 months.

I actually got a phone call from my ISP a while back and they told me I was averaging over 600 GB a month for nearly 5 months straight......LOL

I'm the dude hoggin all the bandwidth bitches.....:-P

I think I'm the reason Canada seriously contemplated bandwidth limiting......lol.

I don't download material at that rate anymore though. I stay under my limit now, but I got a little crazy about a year ago.

If you actually total up all the data counting what's on HDD's now, and what is burned to hard media....DVD's, data discs etc....I have about 11-12 TB guessing on the very low end.

I was under house arrest for a year and a half. Then probation, during which I stayed home to keep out of trouble. So I had nothing but free time and shit load of free space to fill on my drives. Did alot of gaming, and a lot of downloading.

Got a LOT of porn.

That's a bad ass set up man. I have never seen a heatsink like that.. That looks like it would cool a reactor. 3.3ghz to 5ghz!! Holy heat batman! Have you thought about watercooled?
Whats your max ram? 12gb? 16gb? Cuz you better get it, or else 5ghz northbridge processor would be kinda useless...

Holy hell that is a lot of stuff. I used to be into, what they called FXP.... I was the dude that would take 0-days and find empty boxes to dump them in and people on IRC chans would sit and wait to leech.. it was fun.. but that was a decade ago.. now everything is torrents and usenet ( dont get me wrong usenet is awesome ) --- but everything is P2P now..much faster.. yea, I remember at one point I had so much porn, I was seriously considering make a porn site -- but then my morals got in the way..

That is watercooling.... and that one is a load of shite, as are nearly all small radiator kit jobs. stick anything but a hugely efficient processor under there and it'll be doing bugger all

Personally i don't understand any point whatsoever in upgrading computers these days. I've been sat on the same hardware for years and years now, and none of it was top of the line when it was new, yet there's not a game or application it can't get straight through. But we all know what consumers are like, release a new version and people will buy it thinking they have to.

And yeah, 6tb is sweet fuck all these days. If i had the money to buy them, i'd need over 20tb just for HD films, not to mention software, games, music, pictures, personal video's etc.

I forget the max ram. I think it's something like 32. And that E.C.O. is a closed loop water-cooler. Just plug-n-play, no worries. :)

I've seen good reviews on the E.C.O. That's why I went with it. Plus it was cheap. Upgrading because my pentium d sucks donkey balls. I like shit to be done yesterday.

@Daath 32GB RAM? Holy lord, did you buy a server mobo?

@Devildog93 Hahaha, no doubt! I love me some titties!!

P.S. - Just bought the new Macbook Pro today, went with the i7 2.6 750GB HD 8GB RAM -- this thing is balls fast. Can't decide if I want to go Bootcamp or VMWare Fusion or Parallels .... thoughts?

LOL 32 GB RAM.....Man, my little Acer Aspire 6930 laptop (2.00Ghz 3GB RAM) and Compaq PC (1.97Ghz 2GB RAM) run all my gear. Quite well too....really fast, though I have everything DIALED THE FUCK IN right now. Full media streaming of Blu-Ray quality movies thru my choice of various devices. My laptop does all the transcoding on the fly. Fuck I could TEAR SHIT UP with 32 GB of RAM.

Gonna get me a Mac eventually. Was playing with one a few days ago. No idea on which windows virtual to go with though.
