CANNA-BUTTER QUESTION

hey all.
i had a grow which had to be chopped 2 weeks early, i managed to get about 2 oz of sugar leaf/fan leaf/ & stems mixed together.
i got a pan of water to the boil, put a smaller pan in the water, melted the butter and added all my trim, i turned the heat down so there was hardly any bubbles coming up to the surface, i set the timer for 2 hours and gave a gentle stir every 15 mins. the recipes i found said to leave at a simmer for a couple hours, i was confused if i was meant to bring the butter to a simmer or the water. so i decided best not get the butter too hot, so the butter didnt bubble once, around the outside there was tiny little bubbles sitting on the top but that was it.. did i do it right or was i meant to get the butter to simmer.? i have got it in the fridge but saving for christmas so i cant even try it out. but should it be ok ?

You have to simmer the butter.

Do you have a crock pot? You can put on "low".

Also, you harvested early which means your trichomes were pretty clear: speedy type head will result plus the difference in edible high vs. smoke.

Just get the butter to melt and let it set . Re heat every couple of hours. I soak my trim in the butter for 24 hours. Re heat one more time in the morning and then strain it the best you can . I use a flour sifter . Butter should have a green tint to it . I pour butter into 1/2 cup portions (reusable Gladware cups) . This make portioning easier for cooking/baking . If a recipe calls for a cup of butter ..... use a 1/2 cup of medicated butter and a 1/2 cup of regular butter . Make cookies , cakes or whatever . My favorite thing to make is Rice Krispie treats . To kick it up a notch , add a package of toffee bits and a dram of toffee flavoring (buy from Hobby Lobby ).
Do not over heat the butter . Butter will get a bitter taste to it. Slow heating and patience .

I use large mason jar for my double boiler when making small batches. Here's my recipe, start to finish. You missed the decarb step so you'll have some potency loss, but it should still be ok. Replace double boiler with crock pot below. When in a double boiler, I let the water boil very slowly. Small bubbles in the oil/butter is normal.

- grind up one ounce of quality product (I only use bud, but sugar leaves can be added in) very finely. I use a coffee grinder.
- pre-heat oven to 225 degrees
- spread ground product flat and even on a piece of tinfoil
- put tinfoil in oven for 20-25 minutes, then remove. This process is called decarboxylization, and it tranforms THC-A into the usable THC
- melt one pound of butter in a small crock pot on low setting
- add one tablespoon of water to butter and stir in
- slowly stir in the product until it is all soaked in
- keep on low setting for 4 hours, stirring slowly occasionally
- pour the liquid through a cheesecloth into a bowl (I use a pyrex bowl)
- put the bowl in the fridge until it hardens
- take out of fridge, and cut into 1/8ths. Saran wrap up each 1/8th and keep in fridge. One 1/8th of a pound typically makes one batch of cookies

- take the cheesecloth with the product, put into ziplock and freeze it. I use this cheesecloth with oily product as chicken stuffing next time I make a chicken. Then use the infused broth to make canna soup

Ok! Thanks brother . I'm going to make some cookies with some girl scout cookies today!
@mr sunshine Please keep me posted how it goes bro. My girl and I use 80+% of my product for non-smoking purposes, so I'm always interested to hear how others make out. I'm the type of person who will refine based on others feedback, if the feedback is from honest, respected people :)

I agree with everything above, exception:

Do Not Buy From Hobby Lobby.

My master has reserved seating for them.

I prefer salted when I use butter, but I almost always use organic coconut oil instead of butter though.

I prefer salt myself.

I believe it is written though, that salt has some sort of chemical occurence hence the recipe always calling for unsalted.

Perhaps it was in "another life".

Damn all of these lives.

Why the decarb on butter? Never seen that in any butter recipe i've run across.

Out of curiosity, have you made without the decarb vs. with just to see?

Don't get me wrong~not criticizing, just want to know if there is a marked difference.

It seems to me, with the heat from the crock pot it would decarb on its own.

Tell me why this is incorrect thinking, please~I'd like to learn something new today and up my game.

Also, you own the cheesecloth re-use. Do you get any medication from stuffing and soup?

First, yes, lots of medication after reusing the stuffed cheesecloth in the soup, and the aroma is tremendous.

Regarding decarb, it won't happen when saturated in the oil (at least not good enough). I have done side-by-side tests with the exact same product and other ingredients. I noticed a difference in both potency and taste. Regarding the differences, read the following article (it's one of many). Particularly pay attention to the charts: http://www.marijuanagrowershq.com/decarboxylating-cannabis-turning-thca-into-thc/

Nice!

Love it when a member can help make someone up their game.

Thanks again!

I didn't read the entire thread so pardon any redundance but if you will freeze the weed first before making the butter you will get more trichromes and less chlorophyll in your butter. Freezing makes the trichromes brittle so they break off more easily and attach to the fat molecules in the butter. Also I always use organic butter. Regular butter has quite a bit of water in it, organic butter is all butter
