DIY kits now available from Timber!

Why would I buy a kit from Timber versus just buying all the parts myself? It seems counter intuitive that a cost oriented DIY'er should ever order from Timber. Can someone enlighten me to the contrary?
diy isn't for everyone
These kits are only diy in that u place on a frame/hang and then can do whatever you want with them
I'm handy but electrical isn't my forte these kits make cob technology available at an affordable price to everyone as opposed to only to a diyer who can make his own cob light for half what a premade panel costs.
Also Seems very professionally made whereas some diy cob lights look a little sloppy
Im pretty sure I could make a diy cob light with the awesome tutorials here and YouTube by the led vets but I don't even own a drill or any tools
Also there are a lot of conflicting threads and ideas on which parts are compatible, most efficient, best driver, highest bin, correct kelvin temp etc.
also it's a one stop shop in order to get good pricing you may need to order parts from several sources causing more shipping charges especially overseas I'd assume
These seem like the best deal out there in my opinion even better pricing than the other rollout up members with led companies because of the small amount of diy that's involved

Anyways it's not like I'm going in on u lol I just dig the company haven't even purchased one yet but. U asked

Hi RIU,

Wanted to share some photos of a concept that started as a necessity and sort of evolved from there.

We needed to build frames for our QA area in order to hang each kit on while we tested it - so we went to home depot and bought some aluminum L-frame. Using parts we had in the shop we built a few frames. Last week someone got out the hacksaw and chopped one of the frames up, drilled it, and created a modular frame concept - configurable in a linear format, "h-shape", "x-shape" or "?". It's also designed to expand/contract based on a 9-12" distance between COB center points.

Being light geeks, we of course added 730 nM stars and the associated circuitry.

After the holidays, we will create a bill of materials and also a schematic for folks to download off our website for anyone looking for a simple modular frame idea or a jumping off point for a more advanced concept. The pics are rudimentary, as is the design. This is no Growmau5 Canopy 10 design - not even close, we used a hacksaw and drill press - but it does the trick.

Just wanted to share some ideas with the community.

Absolutely, @MeJuana . Compared to Timber's pre-wired and tested kits, you will save approximately $7.50 per each COB assembly if you completely DIY. If you were to buy a kit from anywhere else, it comes unassembled and costs more than Timber's kits. That's my cost/benefit analysis circa May 2016, and includes all shipping charges for the various DIY & kit options, discount codes, etc.

DIY prices have not decreased since then that I can tell. Plus, Timber kits use the best quality components including Meanwell drivers, Arctic Silver thermal paste, solid core wire that's color-coded, an in-line 10A waterproof fuse, and a very robust power cord that includes heatshrink tubing. They also solder and heatshrink in a dimmer pot.

Given the amount of assembly and wiring per COB, the time to do the thermal grease, etc., I figure it's easily worth $7.50 for a pro to do it and test it for me.

Do you just unscrew and move I to the holes that are closer drilled?

Hi RIU,

Well, our customers asked for it, so we are supplying it. We are proud to offer 100 and 200 watt deep red 660 nm supplemental lighting DIY kits.

These kits are similar to our DIY COB kits, exception being instead of COBs and reflectors we add a 12 pc 25 watt Osram OSLON SSL80 chip array. Many consider the Osram Oslon horticultural LEDs to be among the best. These are 3T binned LEDs and each is custom mounted on a PCB in Germany. We assemble these in house using similar materials as in our COB kits - Cooliance 100mm pin cushion anodized aluminum heat sinks, Meanwell HLG series power supply and top binned LEDs with 80 degree optics.

We currently offer a 4-pc kit ($349) and an 8-pc kit ($599) - we will also offer a "add-on" (4) pc kit without power supply that will be able to be bolted onto the (4) pc kit with power supply to expand from 100 watts to 200 watts. This kit will be $269 - giving folks the option of starting with (4) pcs and expanding - or running different configurations. Let us know how long you want the wire leads between each array and we can custom cut the wire length(s) to suit. All heat sinks have (4) mounting holes on top at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock locations near the edge of the heat sink face just like our COB kits for easy mounting.

We are now accepting pre-orders on these kits - they are due to start shipping by 7/25.
