DIY with Quantum Boards

Hey mate,

I've got the same driver and 2 boards, but only have 2.75 of floor space, and only 3ft in height... from what I've read running it at 100w will be enough. Given my lack of height, I'm also interested in SOG from clone, would love to see more pics of your grow if you're willing to show them! :D How many plants are you planning for 9
sqft?

I have a 2nd cab that I've decided to take over, same dimensions... but this one I'm planning on having 2 levels, one will be 11.5" height and the other 21.7" in height. The smaller level will be for cloning/veg and the larger will be for weeks 1-5 of flower, which will then be moved to the 36" height chamber for week 6-10... so I can harvest around every 5 weeks.

Just wondering if you think splitting the 2nd cab into a clone/veg and flower phase 1 chamber would work... I want to get 1 QB for each level :D

Good luck with your grow.

Here's a pic of the 2nd cab... the 1st cab with the 2 QB boards is the same, except without the shelf.

When I run my 2 board build at 100w I have to keep my plants 16-18 inches away or I start to get bleaching on the tops. I might get by at 12in but would lower the wattage for sure. Make sure you get a Kill a Watt and plug the driver into that. I adjust my driver via the internal pot. It doesn't take much movement to increase the wattage.

Looks good to me for the most part. SOG from clone will serve you well if you can keep your plants small for your space. But I'm not sure how your seedling/clones will handle that QB so close.

I started off running the boards dimmed all the way down, 700ma or 35 watt per board I think. Still a ton of light for the wattage. My guess is you will need to dim even more which may mean a separate driver. Maybe someone more experienced can chime in.

I have a 2x2x2 area I'm using for clones/seedlings. I have a couple pics of my grow on page 114 you can check out. In the pics the panels are at about 90 watts per panel. Next round I'll go with smaller pots for these clones.

In your 2x2x2, how close have you been able to get the plants to the panels at that wattage? Not much room at that height

@ChaosHunter : Thanks for that info, mate... I've got the B verson driver with a pot installed, the kill-a-watt says 22w for 2 boards on low. Hopefully I can run the light pretty close, will just have to adjust to the plants ability to handle the light, I guess.

There is a guy on ICMAG called MrSparkle running a perpetual grow with 2 PC cases around 20" in height, he has about 8 plants per PC... I think his secret to keeping the plants small is that he uses 400ml smart pots... he gives his plants 2-3wks veg and flowers at 3-4", it's truly an impressive setup he's got. I'm hoping to model my grow after his...

Gonna checkout your pics! :D

Haven't started my grow yet... I bought my light a few months ago, but I've got a holiday booked for the end of the month and didn't want to rush things, so I'll be popping my seeds when I get back. All these grow reports that are coming through has me chomping at the bit! :P

I did not clarify that i'm only running a single Citi 1212 @ 23 watts in that 2x2x2. Low wattage so I can experiment with running the light at ~10". Its going well so far, the T5s I had were bleaching the leaves on my seedlings.

Yeah, small COBs run soft is a good option... I just like QBs because they're so easy to wire up. Thanks for the info, Chef :) I think one QB on its lowest setting should work...

@robincnn : What's the lowest wattage these boards can be run at? And what driver would you recommend for that? Preferably dimmable. I'd like to mount one to the roof of a clone/veg chamber and don't have much height to work with.

I'm sitting here baked out of my skull reading this and got all paranoid second guessing myself like, could I have bleached the tips and not noticed?! When I know darn well I didn't  You just made me open my tent 2.5 hrs past lights out to snap a few pics to make sure :eyesmoke:

I'm running each board at approximately 60w each since day 31 and had them between 1-3" away from the boards the whole grow so far and just raised the boards a link on the chain the other day. Which is where I'll run them from now on.
Looks good from my backyard 8)

@NapalmD : Impressive looking plants, man... I thought I'd read you saying before that you were running them really close to the plants, that's why I was keen to hear how close other guys were running them. I guess different strains can take different amounts of light, they certainly don't look bleached. Could you tell me how tall the plants are from pot to top cola, please? I dream of squeezing some plants like yours into my 3' tall cab :hump:

Hey no doubt Napalm ! It may have been the autos I ran with mine. The Papaya I'm scroging now "photo plant" seems to be doing extremely well, two weeks since flip. I make a fist and from the top of my fist to my elbow is where my canopy is at. I bumped up the watts to 150w tonight "75w per board" after reading and seeing your post lol ! I'm getting the heavy leaf praying at this distance and remembered with my auto grow that maybe closer I wasn't getting the full light spread ? Heck your raising and maybe I'll be lowering ha ! My one plant Scrog in my 2x2 has over 20 tops ! All in fun.

APC-35-350 gives me 20 watts. Replaced a par38 lamp in home with a board.
Will replace it with new 54V board on PLM-40-500 so that it becomes 3 day dimmable by flipping power switch.

Hlg-80h-700A gives 45w
700B you can dim down to 10watts

Wow awesome man. This is similar to what I hope to experience. I want to be able to get 6" (closer would be even better) without issue. You may have already mentioned it but how many boards for what size tent?

SInce we're on the subject of distance to canopy... after mounting my panels by habit of CFL's
I put the panels a few inches away from my plants.
A few days later I noticed the tops were turning light green, not white but saw this could be the beginning of light stress.
I raised the panels and dimmed them back to around 30 watts per panel. Had them around 35watts per.

They seemed a bit better so I raised the panels again, now theyre about 12 inches from the tops but
I'm still seeing the light green effect on the original plants plus some others.
I have 3 SSDD which seem to be the worst. They are from seed so I'm concidering their DNA to be
raised with a lot of nutes. I try to make my soil happy and not use nutes but I think these have a deficincy and not light burn.
Maybe a little of both.
Other plants are 3 Jabba's Stash a Star Fighter X LBL and a Daisy May.

Any input is appreciated.

I also had a old Pelonis Disk furnace laying around I used for a heat source with a temperature control from ebay.
It can also be used as a cool control if you make the temp in the top box higher then the box below it.
Found out later the furnace wasnt turning on, guess it had too much tilt and triggered the safety switch.
Working good now that it's level.
