Total under $300

Heatsink USA profile used here needs some airflow. Fins too close and not ideal for complete passive.
Reaches 60C board temps at full power Ta 20C.
With airflow in tent down to 40C-45C

Apogee SQ-120 and no spectrum adjustment to numbers. So these are minimum numbers. Actual numbers should be higher.
Why not a better PAR meter. @Stephenj37826 can i have that Lighting Passport now ? You've been playing with it for 3 weeks :finger:

All numbers in µmol (photons) m-2 s-1
With tent measurements the numbers outside 1x1 were not easy to measure so some margin of error.

What kind of application would this be best used in?

I like the idea of something like this for a veg rack 2x4. But it seems pretty spendy at 75$ a board when you need 2 boards. I build my veg lights with 4x cxb3070 top bin active cooled for approx 200$, using these boards would put me near $270ish?

I do really like where this is going, some 5k boards would be great if the cost came way down. We'll see!

@robincnn : How close to the canopy do you think I could hang this light at full power?
These things are going to be weak, you can probably come within an inch of these lights without any issues, they wouldn't bleach and your main issue would be directly touching and burning. I wouldn't bother growing plants with this as the main light source, better as side lighting or a novelty item.

A great DIY alternative to COB. Better way to make low profile, light weight, high efficiency lamps. No TIM application is needed.
Heat is spread more and easily manageable. Efficiency is a little higher. More angles of light for minimal shadows.

without optics.. these boards good for veg lamp where you need a good light spread. They will work great in tent for flowering.
Great for use where you are limited by overhead height. Great for high efficiency if you under drive them.

With optics great for application where you need deeper canopy penetration or for use in space with no reflective sides.

I'm not the best person to ask. If you're vegging in that spot I doubt you need full power. In flower I would stay above 6-8 inch away and watch leaves for any bleaching. I'd also heavily defoliate so you can have buds from top allll the way to the bottom =)

Those things lack any type of usable intensity, gonna make some fluffy as hell nugs unless put super close to canopy, why bother...they aren't even a new design those crappy boards been around as long as LEDs been around.

How much did it cost you to make a 180 watt light? Again I'm at about 200$ with cxb3070 active cooled and I can dim my down or run around 230ish watts. I hang out at about 185 watts in a 2x4. I think it grows very well, but with only 4 cobs as the plants get tall the light is not even. For me even light is not an issue late veg as I shift into the flower room.

Almost 900 at 12" center with 12x boards with HLG-120H-C1400A 80W . Serious high density boards with Top Bin diodes here and not usual LED strips. Within few inches may be an issue unless under driven.
Side application is a good idea.
Doubt it, sounds like more nonsense LED claims, those things are junk , at best a side light , you can pickup those boards for cheap on Alibaba , nothing new here just recycled junk tech.

They are old tech that will not live up to the hype, you probably made that par chart up to sell more products, so sad what the LED world is all lies and deceptive practices. Bet the next thing is that is a 1000w hps replacement.

I am working on getting the heastink piece down to $30 for 2x pre drilled anodized pcs
So soon it will be like $263.5

Those lights are junk PCB board lights, oldest LED grow light tech on the market, if you want to see those things smashed up go watch @REALSTYLES break his mars hydro LED, that's the tech those lights use. Junk PCB board tech.

Move that light 1 inch further and the losses will be tremendous, 12 inches is max range for that thing for sure. PCB boards are junk, small diodes are junk, main issue with running multiple small diodes is they lack any penetration, basic laws of physics prevent it, mainly the law of the inverse square. Small initial value = low intensity. And you don't add all the diodes together to get those numbers they are based on each individual point of light. That's the main reason every single LED maker stopped doing 1 watt diode and all moved to either 3w or 5w even though they are less efficient.

Captain Started a grow. I am making a lamp to test in my tent. NaplamD may be testing these in a 2x2.5 soon.
Sorry to hear about your lack of knowledge of LED. Its Samsung LED calculator, not some emissions claim from VW
Give things time to breathe and spawn. I cannot make a lamp and prove it is best lamp ever. Plants take a few weeks too grow.
Lets wait and see for results if you are not convinced. Enjoy the ride. It will be fun.

Those aren't new tech I already seen plants grown with those PCB board LEDs, that's what mars hydro uses inside their lights and lighthouse hydro use those too, they are used in most panel LEDs....
