Do you count flowering from 12/12 switch or when you see pistil hairs?

gold country.....
Kind of sad looking out at the old hydro mining areas of you bet and greenhorn creek, whole ridges washed away, the land raped of soil. But it’s part of the history of gold country. Down at the yuba river bridge off highway 20 in smartsville is a neat spot where the river basin starts to widen and flatten out you can see alot of the old ore left behind from the hydro mining..such a history, theres old mining relics and mine shafts all throughout them hills.

when It’s done it’s done, idk why people count at all, just check them every plant will grow differently. That’s just my thoughts and what I do.

Everybody has there own opinion on this. I would say if your happy with your harvest and you got good smoke then you did it right! No matter what anybody says. Cause when growing there is literally a million things that can go wrong, and if you get good bud then you did something right! My favorite saying is don’t pet the sweaty stuff! Or wait I might have that backwards

Yea, I know that dude, just wondering how people count there flowering, like from 12/12 or when they see pistils.

Thanks for input tho, appreciate it.
If u get day 21 veg u shouldnsee pistles anyway maturity and they csn show sex

True, most will show their sex between the 5th and 8th node in veg on average but not every strain is this way...but when grown indoors we start counting flowering time after the flip day one week one.

There are different stages of flowering starting with the transition period, the stretch, bud set, flowering, ripening.. the bulk of the flowering is done after bud set in 4-6 weeks for most indoor strains. After that your into late flowering/ripening for 1-3 more weeks on average. Most strains from flip are ready to harvest 8-10 weeks.

I'm trying something different this time. I need to increase the light of the LEDs over a slight time period. To avoid any light problems.

Today, the plants go from 18/6 to 16/8. With the lux measured at net level. I went up from 24k lux at 18/6. To a gradual increase of two steps. 27k lux to 29k lux. Veg fertilizer. 700-750ppm.

Tomorrow, theyll be reduced from 16/8 to 14/10. Increase in lux from 29k to 31k. Veg fertilizer. 750ppm.

Last step. 14/10 to 12/12. Lux increase from 31k to 35k lux. Transition fertilizer. 700-750 ppm.

.......

35k lux is the minimum for flower. So as the pistils develope. Ill walk up the lux from 35k until I reach 45k-50k lux. With a maximum Lux reaching ~65k lux in late flower.

Long story short. My plants are flipped to 12/12 on the 3rd. Over a three day light adjustment. Flower clock starts when I flip to 12/12.

That is just false hope. Most strains are not properly finished in 8 weeks from flip. A few strains might get done that quickly.

Most cultivars need 10-11 weeks from the flip also known as 9-10 weeks of actual flowering time.

Many hybrid varieties need 11-12 weeks of actual flower time or 12-13 from flip. And heavy sativa dominant genetics can easily take 14 or more weeks

Oh, it takes that long for you? I remember those days when I didn’t know what I was doing, keep reading and asking questions here and maybe one day you too can get your harvest times down like the pros.

Lmao your funny, no I grow for quality not just speed of harvest :) so I actually believe in letting plants finish properly. Been doing it a long time with thousands of plants under my belt to prove myself thanks. I also have taken the time to actually try out lots of different genetics, and actually observe their growth habits and life processes. I stopped counting days or weeks many years ago, its irrelevant 98% of the time because even if I'm growing on a schedule, I'm gonna harvest the plants when they are ready not according to a calendar.

There are lots of people like yourself that might chop plants early at 8 weeks from flip, but there are not many plants that are properly finished in that time.

So that's where I'm at as to when to count flower time. Don't because it really doesn't matter in the big picture. You should be feeding a plant based on its needs not a calendar, and you should be harvesting plants when they are ready, not when a calendar or the "breeder"(pollenchucker?) says it was ready for them.

Biologically flowering begins once the plant has began to form flowers though :), not by some arbitrary number on a calendar when you changed the lights. The plant doesn't magically change indoors from outdoors, and plants aren't considered flowering outdoors until you can see they are forming flowers.

I start my count from the day i switch to 12/12 but im pretty sure breeders start once they see the flowering process starting for advertisement purposes. Thats my theory and would explain why i consistently harvest around 2 weeks after the breeders advertised harvest time.

I was wondering how do you count the flowering days.

Do you count from 12/12 switch from 18/6

Or

Do you start counting flowering days when you first see pistils?

I always have started counting the flowering period from when I see the first pistils, however I recently have seen a few people counting flowering period from when they switch from 18/6 to 12/12.

see I figured if I switch from 18/6 to 12/12 then it takes a further 10 days for the plant to show sex and I counted them days as the flowering period, that means I could harvest 10 days early as I counted them 10 days as flowering perid, just when the plant will put its weight on in the last 2 weeks.

I hope that makes sense.

Please Feel free to contribute to the thread & leave comments.

Peace

My general rull of thumb for hassle free is if its an 8 week strain i grow 9 weeks from 12/12 switch...its normally right on the money sometimes off by a week or so..but just check trichomes around the end of the grow..

Sure there is a transitional period and biologically the plants hormones are changing rapidly with that flip to 12/12.

Be careful, this master grower had 3 greenhouses but grows in a 3x3 under Amazon blurples for fun now. He knows his shit man
