DWC in a kiddie pool

Anyone ever try this? I'm planning on using a 6' x 6' inflatable swimming pool as a res. Planning on growing 12 plants all white rhino(as always) under my 1000w. I'll get some pics up when my new cuttings are ready and I start to put this shit together. Still wondering what grow medium to use for this. I have always used net pots and hydroton rocks but this time around I was thinking about using some grow blocks? any opinions?

How many gallons? How will you drain it? What nute system are you using? Can it be made lightproof? What will you use for a lid?

I think it's a very interesting idea, but perhaps logistically a little difficult? Would love to see pics if you manage to work it out.

Sounds good but like Heisenberg said, how will you light proof it ?? Light in the water plus the heat from 1000W HPS will give you root problems.

46 gallon water capacity. I would drain it using one of my pumps to move water to my tub. I was thinking about trying out B.C. hydro nutes this time around. I have a water chiller. really the only thing I'm still thinking about is the lid and making it light proof. Right now my idea is arranging the plants in a type of grid formation and cutting out a grid in a sheet of cardboard that could cover the pool and then putting a black tarp over that. hope that makes sense.

IMO that's twice as much water as you need unless you are vegging the plants out for many weeks first. So basically you would be using twice as much nutes as needed. How often do you intend to change the res?

For the lid I would think construction styrofoam would work better than cardboard. If you regularly inoculate the res with beneficial microbes it will help a great deal in fighting algae, so no need to be meticulous about light proofing.

Yeah I wasn't planning on filling to its capacity. I figure 20 gallons will work. change the res every 10 days. I think your right on the styrofoam being the better solution.

Yep, like my lids.....insulated styrofoam from Lowes in 4ft x 8ft sheets for around $25
Wrap it with Aluminum Foil tape and NOT Duct Tape !

I suggest you re-work your math for the water capacity, I believe you'll be using much more than 46 gallons in a pool that is 6' x 6'.

Consider: there are 7.7 gallons in a cubic foot, so 46 gallons would take up 5.974 cf. Placing 5.974 cf in an area of 36 sf will only cover that area to a depth of .166' or 1.991", I'm betting you'll need much more than 2" of water to grow your plants in.

Though I do know people who grow in a similar fashion in tables. It is do-able.

I would use a plastic circular pool. As for the cover, you could use treated plywood or 2" styrofoam. I am currently building one for an outdoor garden, except with many more plant sites.
