DWC Root Slime Cure aka How to Breed Beneficial Microbes

ia actually dont... it doesn't change my ppm by much... it doesn't really add alot of nutes.. it add alot of enzymes since the bacteria will produce it.. so it is basically free expensive enzyme products..

A coffee filter is ok to use? It wont filter out the larger organisms? I filtered my tea thru a paint strain and it was still like poring in dirty ass water and I cant even see the bottom of my res now. I used EWC not AF since amazon was gonna take over a week just to ship it then still another 5 days to get here after that. I didn't really have root rot just wanted to prevent it was hoping it would help my roots get bigger since after 3 weeks in DWC they just seem small to me. I've used nothing but GH micro/flora Lucas so no superthrive or root excell but now I with I had when they were younger cus my roots just seem like they dont want to grow.IMG_1035.jpgIMG_1039.jpgIMG_1041.jpgIMG_1038.jpg This is before the tea you can see them in there temp buckets here while I was cleaning out my system 4 5gal RDWC 27 gal res. I'll have to get a pic of the after but they aren't any bigger and they look covered in mud and dirt untill i swish them in the water and then they are cleanish looking again. One thing I have noticed tho is ton of roots pieces in the res and they are all brite white healthy looking roots so not sure why they keep breaking off? Too much air maybe? I'm using a 60w pump to supply 4 buckets which is over kill and make tones of turbulence in the buckets but I thought thats what we want, is there such thing as too much turbulence in there? I have a smaller 18w pump too which I started with then upgraded just so I'd have more air not sure if that was a good choice tho.

Do anyone know if the tea help root rot with 6 inch rock wool? Im having brown root on the bottom of my rock wool cubes. Im planning to pour about 1 cup of tea into each 6inch rock wool. So the question is do I feed (top feed) once a day or do I feed only when cube dries out. Currently the cube take few days dry due to root rot. Any one here can help?

Thanks

dude... you have fucking root rot caused by brown slime algae... i can see it all over your roots... they aren't supposed to be ANYTHING but white.. with fishbone fucking roots everywhere.. you need to get that shit under control... and yes.. i use a coffee filter at the bottom of a caulender.. as long as the filter isn't smaller than 400 microns then it is okay.. it takes a while to filter this shit tho man.. not gonna lie.. since i dont poke ANY holes or anything.. i just tap the bottom of the caulender to speed up the process... that's all i can do..

and no.. the more turbulent the better... make the tea EXACTLY as he says.. i would get the ancient forest.. since it has so many more organisms in it.. but ewc will work fine for now.. i just love the ancient forest.. very very good... make it.. you can substitute the molasses for maple syrup... and let it bubble for the WHOLE 48 hours.. and only add the directed amount of molasses/maple syrup.. you have a problem in your res.. and it isn't fucking "dirt" ... it's bacteria called brown slime algae.. which is actually cynobacteria.. and the root rot that you see in picture number 2 with all of the brown is late stage... the roots are getting choked so now they are rotting from the inside out.. fucking deal with it and you will be happy you did.. BOOM.. another person helped.. eureka !

PS follow the recipe to the fucking tea.. don't add anything unless it is in the recipe.. or unless you are technically advanced enough to know what to substitute..

ah.. i will help you... since it isn't a hydro system.. or else the "watering" would be in a timer.. and im guessing you are using rockwool as more of a coco coir substitute.. BAD fucking idea.. but now that it is started you will have to deal with that shit and man up.. the tea is all you need.. but you also need to know some other things.. let the shit dry out to the touch on the surface of the cube before every water.. add a cup of tea to every cube every 2 days.. also.. do this after feeding if you are feeding on that day.. just so that you dont wash all of the tea away by watering right after..

and the cube isn't taking a long time to dry out bc of the root rot.. it's taking a long time bc you are either watering it too much OR bc the roots aren't drinking it fast enough bc of the root rot.. just make the tea and all of that will go away.. ALSO... letting it dry thoroughly before you water again is another preventative measure.. but the tea is the ultimate fuck you to bacteria .. and it's great for your roots..

the roots have no foul smell at all and are extremely earthy smelling. It certainly isn't "late stage" as you seem to think. The roots are all firm and white for the most part. I've read that GH micro will stain roots which I'm using so I think the color is more that than rot. They dont feel slimy or smell rotten and it is definitely dirt/sand from the tea that got on my roots, you can shake it all out and see the particles in the water and the roots are clean again so yes it is fucking "dirt". I cleaned my res yesterday and there was plenty of sand and dirt in there that went thru the paint strainer. A coffee filter FYI is 20 microns so you are filtering out pretty much everything but the bacteria out so you haven't been using the tea as recommended since you are basically just using aquashield at that point.

Hey Shexy8, see that dude is having the same prob as me, eventually the roots get slime on them in my dwc and gets worse with ewc tea added. My question is when i asked you earlier if your air stone slimes up like crazy when u brew the tea and you said "yes" and that its good bacteria, but my question is this same liquid is being poured into our res after filtered so just like the brewer bucket its going to rapidly slime up everything just the same in the res and all over the roots.. And thats exactly whats happened to him and myself.

Im getting a bit of the slime build up again even with the zone im using but seems like my plants are still growin roots, so i wounder if the slime only can kill a plant if its unhealthy. My res temp is 71.5 and i have 2 air pumps outside the room and 2 inside, seems like the ones outside have much less slime, but its still there a little.

I accidentally used the big scoop for the zho powder. is that a problem if i put around a 1/4 scoop from the big side? i made the recipe excatly how the post describes it but used the big end of the scoop. please let me know so i don't kill my plants!

I am using endo mycorrhizae granules would it be better to grind them up and put into reservoir or keep as granules I'm using drip/bubble system.
Thanks

Yes is very bad, same thing happens to me. when u add it to your reservoir the slime will be 10x worse then it ever was.. Are you using ancient forest or some other worm castings?
How did you fix it? Both times I have tried I have ended up with slime in the tea.

Whats up heisenberg Aka hydrogod,
I am new to growing and have been getting a lot of conflicting information. After discovering and reading this thread I see that you really know your stuff. I am hoping you can give me some input. I am running a DWC system and plan to use the the DM nute the add27 for boost and the liquid light folier spray as well as the saturator additive. I will hope to leave the room between 75-80 and the water in low 70's.(I will have a water chiller so if there is more optimal setting please let me know)I had a few questions that I a hoping you can help me with. I was wondering where you think the humidity should be at and wanted to make sure it is safe to start feeding the children tea right when i set them in the system? I am set up to run CO2 and was wondering your opinion about that. I have been advised to run it 200 ppm over my nutes.

So has anyone heard of pyroclay? just added some the other day to the system along with af a and b,cal mag,aq and of course Heisenburg's tea. Just gotta say that the pyroclay has made even more of a difference.. I hesistated in putting the clay into the system as I asked H about it first and got no answer,so went out and took a risk and did it.Always had good results with it in soil but this is the first time I have tried it in rwdc. According to the label,it is an excellent source of food for beneficial bacteria and contains no additives but great source of mono and ortho silicate acid
