Week 1 (March 30-April 5)

Apr 5, 2025

  • Using grow tent during evening and night. Placing outdoors to harden off seedlings and acclimate to outdoor grow in pots on deck (Weeks 10-26).
  • 18-6 LIght cycle.

Mar 28, 2025 Germination date for 2 older plants

  • Received 6 seeds from Humboldt County Seeds. Two germinated right away. One was delayed germinating. One was a dud and replaced. Younger plants are about 1-2 weeks younger. One seed saved for later grow.

Week 2 (April 6-12)

Apr 9, 2025

  • Younger plants in humidity dome just before germination
  • Older plants in tent 2-2.5 weeks old.

Apr 8, 2025 Germination date for 2 younger plants

Week 3 (April 13-19)

Apr 12, 2025

  • Repotted older plants into Stage 2 (of 3) containers
  • Reflection Note: Better Potting Progression would be Solo – 3 Gallon – Finishing Pots
    • JD 1 and JD 2 ended up with N deficiency because of 2 gal pots (and no nutrients).
    • JD 3 ended up robust (did not deplete Nitrogen as quickly because it moved from solo to a 3-gallon Pro-Can pot. More soil for stage 2 growth and root expansion).
    • 2-Gal nursery pot ended up starving JD 1 and JD 2: yellowing, pale green color, and crowding in the rootball. Waited too long. 3 Gal is better for stage 2.

  • Small fan is used in tent to generate wind to strengthen stems (harden off).

  • Small fan is used in tent to generate wind to strengthen stems (harden off).
  • Vivosun tent with exhaust fan running during 18 hour light cycle.

Week 5 (April 27- May 3)

  • No nutes. Water when hydrometer probe indicates drier deep in soil (to promote root stretch).
  • Continue with nights in tent and outside for sun and wind from around 11am to 6pm

Week 6 (May 4-10)

  • Signs of nutrient deficiency. Lower leaves yellowing but I speculated it was soil contact and leaf damage that hurt them rather than nute deficiency.
  • Deep hose watering. Consistently dry soil in older plants (JD 1 and JD 2). Full soil saturation on May 9.
  • No clear sign that they are rootbound yet. Will wait to transplant.
    • Reflection Note: This may have been a mistake. Transplant from 2-Gallon pots should not wait until week 8. Week 6 or 7 is likely better.
    • Use 3 gallon pots.

Week 7 (May 11-17)

  • (5-15) epiph delight feeding May 15, 2025
    • Reddening may have slowed. Not sure if foliar spray of Mag-Pro remedied or Epiphyte's Delight in soil helped arrest yellowing
    • Watching for additional yellowing of lower leaves to see if N is sufficient.
    • Adding FF Grow Big as well but at half doses to avoid nutrient burn from all the remedies.
    • Note how JD 3 is greener and robust compared to the older plants JD 1 and JD 2 in the 2-Gal pots.
    • Reflection Note: Switching to 3-Gal for stage two up-potting progression in future backyard grows.

  • Signs of Nitrogen deficiency over the past week
    • Red stems in only one of the older plants (JD 1; germinated March 28).
    • The other older plant (JD 2) has some yellowing but no red despite same conditions.
    • Fading lower leaves; red stems and leaf tips also might indicate Magnesium issues.
    • Those planted April 6 (later) are only just starting to show yellowing in lower leaves.
  • Attempted remedy (5-13): foliar feed all Mag-Pro (2-15-4) to give some N and Magnesium.
    • Plants were still saturated with deep watering, so I wanted to avoid soil feed.
    • Reflection Note: Should have started feeding 1-2 weeks earlier.
  • Attempted remedy (5-15): soil water feed all Epiphyte's Delight fertilizer (17-9-26) to boost N.
  • Awaiting Fox Farm nutrients (to arrive 5-20).

Week 8 (May 18-24)

  • Upcoming: Fox Farm Nutes added to soil (1 Gal) May 24, 2025
  • Upcoming: Up-potting JD 3 and JD 4 into finishing outdoor pots May 22-23, 2025
    • Store only had FF Happy Frog soil.
    • JD 3 and JD 4 will have 75/25 mix of Ocean Forest and Happy Frog
    • I also soaked the soil more thoroughly (water only) for JD 3 and JD 4 pot preparation.
      • Trying to prevent dry pockets my probe senses deep in the stage 2 pots
    • JD 3 is still quite green (good N levels)
    • JD 4 is yellowing at lower leaves (low N; small pot) and needs transplanted soon.
  • Fox Farm Nutes added to soil (1 Gal) May 21, 2025
  • Transplant JD 1 and JD 2 into finishing outdoor pots May 20, 2025
    • Wire cage to prevent squirrel mischief
    • Massaged the rootball
    • Heavy hose water with minimal but some drainage
    • Will likely need to fertilize next watering
    • Awaiting another bag of Fox Farm to transplant JD 3 and JD 4

  • Fox Farm Nutes added to soil (1 Gal) May 19, 2025
    • Grow Big: 1.5 tsp (half recommended dose at Cannabis specific FF chart)
    • Big Bloom: 3.0 tsp (recommended dose for micro nutrients)
    • One Gallon (had run-off for all plants)
    • All plant soil was dry.
    • Overnight growth very strong for JD3 (large pot late germinator)
