Remember tho ... for those following along , try different variations. This what works for me ... for you maybe something tweaked differently or better. Feel free to input your grows , experiments , etc.

Right now I’m using more volcanic pumice ( small ) instead of perlite , heard that mycrobial like likes to fill the nooks and crannies of it .
It was because local nursery was out of large bag perlite and I didn’t want to drive all over town looking for some so I grabbed the pumice. Some pieces were smashed small prior to use but so far so good , great drainage.

Hydroguard is another option for keeping the micro life purring along ... which I use mostly for my Hempy bucket runs ( which I will start a thread on after the new year ) and does work with soil too.
I’m actually going to replace perlite with rice hulls for one plant to see if there’s any difference between the perlite

Here is an example of a regular strain HSO BD ( blue dream ) on layered mix ...... 12/12 from seed to flower.
Layered mix is great for SOG style grows as this one. Notice I left a “ collar “ around top of grow bag , that will allow me an area I can raise up when I add a top dress with FFOF for supplement feeding. Root mass will evident as you lift bag and feel the density , I don’t get “ root bound “ issues as you can see she is happy as shit.

Although BD will run large in bigger containers , even outside , this medium will grow your cuts just fine .
Kelp / seaweed is watered every 3 days ( length of time between drying currently. ). No training or cropping done on her currently but is taking up a great structure that I don’t have to control. That is why i always say ... let the plant acclimate to FFOF WITHOUT adding any other nute. I water with 6.5-6.7 tap and that’s it.

How much Kelp are you adding to the water? Should I follow the bottle recommendation?

Do you ever need to use calmag at all?
Yes , always with LED runs apparently. I compensate by keeping grow temps up higher as possible . Calcium helps the plant’s stoma process and plants transpiration.

The number one issue growers have when switching to LED is their grow room temperatures. Leaf temperature is the actual parameter that ambient/air temp is influencing, and different lighting can effect the leaves differently. With HPS and other HID bulbs, they contain 2 forms of heat. Convection heat from the excited gases temperatures in the arc tube, and also IR energy that is radiated in the beam of light itself. IR heats surfaces on contact, and has the most impact on leaf temperatures. HID growers are forced to lower their ambient temperature to fight the IR heat in order to maintain ideal leaf temperatures(both surface and internal).

LED’s do not emit IR and as a result, do not heat up the leaf surface, in addition to their general heat load reduction they offer. To maintain ideal leaf temperature keep metabolic rates high, growers need to run an average of ~5-8˚F higher ambient temperatures than in their HID environments, targeting 80-85˚F. With the higher ambient temperature, the internal leaf temperatures are maintained in the ideal range for vigorous growth and nutrient uptake can take place.

I notice my plants prefer 80°+ ( type of temps during lights on ) and roughly about 10-12° less at lights out. I have had to keep containers off of cold flooring , warming pads , etc. during cooler times.

When did you use the fish & kelp during the grow?
And also, can/should it be mixed with calmag? Or should they be done at different feedings?

i began watering with the fish / kelp “ combo “ mostly as a mix with normal watering during veg.
I prefer straight kelp but decided to this on a go.

With kelp i can continue thru flowering.
i have added calmag only because of colder temps to keep uptake purring - normally my water ( tap ) has adequate when growing during summer.

Plants become calmag whores if grow temps aren’t high enough ... i have been averaging 73 - 77 ° as of late and they prefer at least 10° higher temps during lights on.

Trying the FFOF / Happy Frog / dry amended mix this go round. Got three different varieties going, (2) northern lights, (1) blue mystic & (3) ak48.

The one norther lights plant had what I think was cal/mag deficiency, I've treated it with cal mag twice & it's looking better. Quick question, how close should I have the lights above the tops of the plants ? Running (2) 320W Quantum Board kits cranked all the way up in a 4x4 tent

This will be part of my NEW layered mix .... RECIPE 420 Recharge ( grow ) 6-8-4 and Recipe 420 Ultra Bloom 2-8-8 dry fertilizer.

The ingredients across the board is quite nice ...... bio char , azomite , myco , glacier dust , alfalfa meal and more.

Got a few solo cup starts that will be the test subjects.

Id try this but just looking at the bag it looks out of my budget. What's the best Dr Earth to use with FFOF after the initial 2-3 weeks of planting? There's like 10 different varieties.

Not to mention it’s marketed for cannabis so your really paying at least a 200% mark up

Another quality “ dry fert “ ghat works very well is Happy Frog Fruit and Flower .... i would add a teaspoon per gallon ( container ) size / scratch into top soil .

Example.
1-3 gallon ( 1-2 tsp ) to topsoil - water in 6.5
5 gallon ( 3 + ) to topsoil - water in 6,5

This is a great one for ffof grows .....

I run the quantums around 18” at “ almost “ max ...... however there are some interesting light play you can do with DIM CONTROL.

Example : Drop power to 75% - drop light down to about 15” ... i find i can judge plant tolerance by starting close and look at leaf orientation to it. Quantums actually are more EFFICIENT at “ mid level “ power levels. There really isn’t s need to go balls to wall with them , believe it of not board is at maximum efficiency between 50-70 watts per board
