First grow. LED. Sex question. Grow log.

Hi there! This is my first grow and I am 38 days from seed. I have 9 plants and I am wondering if they are showing their sex yet. Some background information, I started all 9 germinated seeds in solo cups in Fox Farms Happy Frog and after about 3 days they all sprouted. I waited about 10 days from that point and transplanted 8/9 into 3 gallon pots filled with FFHF. So on day 13 8/9 were transplanted and on day 23 the 9th one was transplanted. I give them 2 cups of distilled water ranging from pH 6.7-7 every 36 hours. I have noticed some brighter green spots on new growth and also distorted new growth such as twisted leaves. The majority of the fan leaves tips are curled down. Temperature and humidity range from 76-82F and 35-45H. I am using a 525w LED (24/0) which runs quite cool so I am only uses two fans at the moment, one blowing across the plants and one blowing air out of the room plus the exhaust to the light. Here are some pictures, any input is much appreciated. Here is plant #06/09

A bit too early for sex, every strain is different. Look for alternating nodes when a plant is at maturity, small calyxes will form and a (pistil) the little two white hairs are a tell tale sign of a female.

Also they look over watered. Every 36 hours seems too often. Try lifting the pot after letting it almost completely dry, when it is very light it is time to water. Learn your pot weight and get a feel when to water usually every 2-4 days depending on the plants needs. Roots seek moisture by stretching, if over watered they slow their growth.

Other than that they look great. What strain?

Thanks for the reply! This is actually just one plant I have to upload the other 8 probably tomorrow. See I water them that often because if I don't they just droop and yesterday 3 basically toppled over the very top folded over and I watered them within an hour they were standing upright. Plus I'm worried about the leave ends curling down any clue what that is from? All 9 are Extreme Cream by Exotic Genetics.

I'd transplant into bigger pots than what you have in those pictures. Add dark period to their schedule (24/0 causes plant to take longer to form those preflowers/flowers), IME. Are you exposing those to LED and outdoor light?

Nice. Looks like I'm in for a treat about 36 days from now!

I didn't know the plants would grow so quickly.

So your using a grow box? I just got a led superstar from superclosets and put it together yesterday. I also started 10 seeds on their germination journey. Very excited.

Which box are you using. Are you growing in your house or garage/attic? I'm curious BC I have to keep mine in the garage or attic and I'm concerned about the temperature around the grow box staying between the suggested 67-73 degrees.

The sales manager suggested I run my lights at night and put a fan to blow on the intake filters to cool the air going into the box. I wanted to build a small plastic room around the grow box and vent my air conditioning into the room...so I could be certain the conditions were optimal. Anybody that can help me out plz post it up! Thx

You may be root bound. What size pots are those??? I would up pot into a larger container, ease off the watering schedule and then see how they respond. On average I water my 7 gallon pots around every 4 days. You will get bigger veg from 24/0 but as stated before 18/6 will coax preflowering sooner.

I'm unsure how hot supercloset grow boxes run. For the price that bitch better run cool. I would run your light for a full 18 hour cycle and see what your temps reach without added airflow, then adjust accordingly.

I'm using a closet but it will be getting somewhat modified once I switch to 12/12. The plants are exposed to the LED and the LED only. I have other light I will hook up once I go 12/12 for 1050w of LED! I believe the pots are 2.5-3 gallons. Do you really think they could be root bound that fast? I was planning on transplanting them once more to 5 gallon buckets right before I induce flowering. This morning they were a little more perky rather than droopy as seen in the photo. Also I will be adding all the pictures this evening.

That's good advice. I'll do a test on it and get back to you. Thanks

This is a male?
It is actually a gynoecious plant meaning, the male "balls" are actually female and would make a fem seed only.

The tufts of calyx are dead give away for female bud tops just beginning aka white hairs...and the balls form just below on a separate node....people erroneously refer to these as "hermies".....

I can pick balls and have this variety flower like a female normally without further seed, but I usually cull unless pollen chucking for seed making...this strain gives great flower but grows like Cookies, slow and like shit.

So I'm about to grow the Girl Scout cookies. Should I not have my hop s up for a great mother plant? I understand it takes 9-10 weeks to produce. But what other factor makes it grow "like shit?"

Don't get me wrong it has lovely flower to smoke, but it takes me 10-12 weeks of veg to something suitable for flower....i just use it for breeding projects now, to try and isolate.

Its just a tough growing strain imho, its picky and takes time to dial in. "grows like shit" is obviously subjective and would hope be taken as grain of salt, considering I did add other conditions explaining why....

Consider epigenetics though....and this is why I don't throw anything away in reality and always open to diversity not necessarily IBL's......your experiences may and will vary, even clones from the same plant will throw slighlty different chemotypes if the environmental conditions allow it.

In short you could have a great adventure in finding a great mom, or it could be like any other great strain. Just also consider that Cookies is bag seed lineage derived too....who said it was worth being a mom in the 1st place :)

Sorry no more hijacking!

Lmao it's tough being a parent!!!

Have you grown bubblegum hash plant or viper cookies before? Those are my other 2 options. Of course I'm going to grow all 3 strains at some point. But if you have any advice or experiences to share I'm all ears

is the Viper from reeferman aka the Burmeses X Black? what is the cookies cut? What is the bubblegum from? that sounds delightful with the hashplant, depending on if that is what it is....I have a small flowering area but try to keep variety up....my flowering right now is some Jack Herrer pure....Juicy Fruit....Cannatonic and another Chem/Og lineage cut I have been working since last summer....just made seed [S1] from the "Cookie" lady I mentioned earlier....just now showing 1st leaves....

No particular advice other than I like diversity but diversity from IBL lineage makes me nerd out too...I have been looking for some good clones to reverse from Female and try and make Males, next task I might try, that I haven't yet....

Considering your pot size root bound is unlikely. I'd say back off on watering. Are you supplying nutrients? How close are your lights?

The viper and bubblegum both came from true north seed bank. The cookies from BCbuddepot. I guess I could've put links to them in this comment. Next time ok?
But this is my exact order and it's what I'm going to learn on. I ordered 24 seeds but I believe they sent me more like 30-35. Planted 10 cookies 1.5 days ago. I can't wait to see them sprout!

And bump your humidity up- 35% is on the low end. Could be wicking all the moisture from leaves. I kept mine at 30 in a room with plants at different stages of growth and the ones in veg did not thrive with such dry conditions. Just my opinion. Good luck.
