Beware of Fox Farm. I consult for a number of grows including dispensary grows. One thing I have learned is everyone using Fox Farm soil is having problems with fungus gnats and various other mites of several species.

For what it's worth I won't ever revommend this stuff.

I've seen some people moan about FF soils and when they've looked of posted pictures about the pest in question its generally been "hypoaspis miles" aka "flour mites" they are a natural predator of soil Bourne pests including fungus gnats, thrips and springtails.

Just a heads up incase they are actually being proactive with their soils.

For the record I never have and probably never will use FF products as I'm in the UK.

I used them and had a massive fungus gnat infestation. I liked their ferts, but the soil came with free bugs =(

Surely if they were being that proactive (adding mites to attack any other pests) they'd advertise the fact...???

I too will never use FOX FARMS because
1. I use clay pebbles
2. I live in England and
3- It's a fucking stupid name!
What kind of farmer would raise foxes....???

I used ffof for my base soil recently and had 2 spotted mites, root aphids, and fungus gnats.
I have been blaming the clones I bought for the mites and RAs. I will think twice about ffof next time.

Good morning Snaps I have always used FF sols because I live next to the owner and get it for pretty cheep (5$ a bag). I always seem to have a gnat problem from it but never mites or anything else. What soil brand would you recommend? I have spoke with FF soil about the gnats and he said all soil has gnats. I tried Root organic 707 mix this round it seems to dry out quickly?

I got a good supply of gnats with mine as well. Didn't make me happy, but no big deal as I already had some Gnatrol. One application gnats are gone in a week.

I have never used any of there products.... However, I am very wary of those that may have an axe to grind and .... since you

I find that you or any other 'consultants' that say this about a product...could be liable for [damages] in the real word if you used the product and then disparaged it this way...

Just like those that speak too highly about a product, and those that dis a product....

I add a grain of salt...and realize that any soil based product that is transported and or stored outside, is subject to bugs...

For what's it worth ? "It's worth" you mean your opinion? What is it worth? What is your opinion worth?

Have a great day Snaps... Just saying, hyperbole ....

I get gnats from roots organic, never much with ffof... That being said... fFOF nutrient life and the cal/mag availability are limited and not sufficient and consistent!

For the purposes of this thread I am not recommending an alternative, this is a subject for another thread.

As far as my stating "everyone" I do mean those I have consulted for.

Yes I understand the possibility of contamination but poor packaging would be to blame imo as this is not an isolated incident in time or by user.

If you want to take these experiences seriously you should do a drench with something to kill off anything hanging out in the soil. Probably a good idea for any soil.

I too have never had any probs with FFOF.
I have a bag right now so I will look through
it with my magnifying glass and my hand held
microscope to see what the deal is and If I
find a bug or 2 I will report here. Btw Happy Frog
comes from the same people as FFOF. Correct
me if I'm wrong. Thanks for the heads up and
I will now go take a close up look at my FFOF soil.

Update: I just went through a fresh bag of FFOF
extensively and I didn't find a single bug. Nothing
crawling. I guess anyone that does get bugs in FFOF
it is isolated or random.

Yep ancient earth is a nice product and I found when I used it, it seems to be smoother than using the two bottles from them. Plus it's one less bottle of the many in that line that you would have to mix. A win win situation:)

Cheers alwaysgreen420 & beuffer420 will look into that now, only got Interested in Grandma Enggy's F-1 & Grandma Enggy's H-2 because of reading about it in another Thread...but if I can get same Results with Ancient Earth then will go with that.

I like to read up a bit about Products and ask peeps before parting with my money...not Tight...but my Budget is...Lol and can't afford to make stupid mistakes because I didn't check the product out properly...or ask/see what peeps are saying.

Peace
