Help with indoor transitioning to outdoor in WNY

I'm a noob and this is my second grow attempt. As of today she's a week over a month from seed. Just shot out its first white pistil so I know for fact it's a girl. It's been on 18/6 since the 28th of march and I'm planning on planting it outside may 21st - june 1st as the days are long enough by then (I live in western new york). Currently vegging under the Mars Hydro TS 600 plus about 6 or 7 CFL and LED lights and it's 17" tall. Once it veg a bit more i'm gonna cut a couple clones.

How does she look to you? Someone over on grasscity told me it looks rootbound but I might have just overwatered a bit, i'm now using the 10% rule (10 gal of soil, 1 gal of water) which for 4 gal of soil in a 5 gal bucket = 1500 mL. And any other advice appreciated. Thanx!

Does yer pot drain?

How often do you water? Do u do the lift test?

For five weeks from seed that is a fat stalk
If it has been in that pot that long it is most likely stalled due to root bound issues

It drains when it gets a full watering. I was an idiot and watering it every day, then someone told me to use the 10% ratio so now i let it dry out before i give it 1.5L. It seems that translates to basically watering every other day. Dries out fast, maybe it's cuz of how much light i got.

Yeah i'm gonna try to get at least a 10 gal fabric pot ASAP. If i can't find em near me i'll have to order or use whatever big container i got

Fr. In a trash can it could potentially be a 1 lb plant, if i'm so lucky. Better idea anyways, weather gets shitty here in WNY + critters, so i could put in a wheelbarrow and get it inside in an emergency

I never move my outdoor girls to bulky and easy to have a catastrophe

Gonna put it in a 32 gallon trash can, will not need transplanted again. Might be a bitch to move tho lol

Extra Perlite will help

From another thread, I got the advice to try to sync up your lighting cycle to approximately the same as what they are going to get when they move outdoors. Prevents shock that can get them into some halfway flowering state.

It's been on 18/6 for the past five weeks, so it thinks it's in the middle of summer and it's vegging. Where i'm at sunrise is currently about 6 AM and sunset about 8 PM. So that's 14 hours of light, so still a little too early to go outside because it might try to flower prematurely. Besides that, the risk of frost etc isn't fully gone here until almost Memorial Day. I think may 21st is the absolute earliest i can put it outside, 30 days from summer solstice.

So it might need a temporary bigger container until then, a halfway point between the 5 gal bucket and the trash can. Trash can would be impossible to get out of my closet and down a flight of stairs filled with dirt anyways without a nightmare happening

You need to abandon the idea of mobility with a 1 lb plant

That plant looks pretty good for a rookie, um, but if you want a really bushy plant, like rather than one or three tops, you can get fifty colas...just pinch the very very newest growth on the top of each top or cola...that will always double into two colas, and you can keep doing it over and over doubling up each time, but there's a trick to it. The plant ends up growing horizontally rather than vertically. You end up with a four or five foot square plant with numerous colas. And I've always found that the plant in the largest container is always the biggest and healthiest...my experience. The ground is the best place but you have way less control then, you have to deal with Mother Nature...or build a greenhouse. Good Luck Bud.

Neat trick, might try it once i fix the rootbound issue. I might just put it in a bunch of dirt in a contractor bag until i get it outside and put it in the barrel

If the plant gets 14 hours of light per day, no matter the strain (except auto-flower of course), you shouldn't worry about triggering flower. Pretty sure, my experience...

Ya it's less so that rn than it is the frost factor, plus I'm pretty sure the forecast says we might get a couple 30-40 degree days yet. That's WNY for ya. Believe me if i could just put it out right now i would but instead i'm left with a pain in the ass of what to do with it until then. That said it's an indica which are more temperature resilient (i hear) but not THAT resilient....

If you can, get one of those heavy duty trash containers on wheels...but get the ones with big wheels or it'll break. It's always nice to be able to move the thing...heavy winds, hail, rain...can make your ladies sick. I used a yard cart on wheels, rectangular box full of ProMix Mycorrhizae...marijuana plants thrive in that ProMix Mycorrhizae...they love it. I mixed in some Bat Guano powder, a bit of muriate of potash (0-0-60), all set.

Better safe than sorry, I hear ya. I have three babies and three teenager plants downstairs now in North Bay Ontario, a bit north of you, and no way would I put any of them outside yet...even in the daytime. The dew point is still frozen probably, fuk dat. lol
