have any of you had your outside doctor (the one you're hoping will approve your request for a med card) request your records from the local VA? if so, how'd it go?

i'm wondering if the requester states that it's for an evaluation to determine if marijuana may help or just that it's for an evaluation of the patient!

thanks!

It will most likely have the clinic name.
for sure on that, but i'm thinking that there might be some regular doctors (who will recommend marijuana) who work at a clinic that isn't known primarly for med marijuana evaluations as opposed to - DISCOUNT MARIJUANA CARD EVALUATIONS R US type clinics!

i'm mostly curious about if the VA sent the files, if they contacted the veteran about it and what they put in the medical records etc.

The VA has stated that they will not stop your other pain meds as long as you are in a state where mmj is legal. No worries so far. The VA has to release your info to you or other Doctors with your consent. The law. They dont care where it is going, just that the consent form is right. I went to the window at Phx VA & they would only mail my records since there were too many to print & wait for. I had them give me enough records to take to my mmj Dr & was approved the same day by the state for the green card.
I did not go out of my way to give extra info to the VA about anything (never have) just be assured that as long as a legal request is made the VA will handle it as such.

Asking for a years worth of records is the fastest easiest way, imo

FatbogOGOF posted this link on my thread and its pretty good. Talks about use of med marijuana and the VA's take on prescription pain killers with them. It looks like at one time the VA did cut off pain management meds, if you were using marijuana... but they have something in place now where they are supposed to continue giving meds.. Check it out.. Maybe you can print it out and take it into your next Dr visit..

BTW FatboyOGOF, Im going through the whole process now.. and AZMMCC had a form I had to fill out that released records to them, and then a day later I got an email saying they needed me to fill out the VA medical record release form and fax it back to them so they could send it to the VA.. Then I also requested records from the VA for myself as well..

Ill keep you updated on my adventure as it unfolds..

it does have one caveat, it states that your individual doctor gets to decide what meds you can have if you are using pot. you definately need to make an appointment with someone, NOT THE DOCTOR that took your meds away, and tell them that you need your meds. good luck! i'd be hugeley pissed!
