How do I get better results?

Hi guys,
I finished my first grow some time ago. It was a Barneys Farm Purple Punch Auto which yielded me about 90g in a 10L pot. I am pretty happy with the yield as it was my first grow but I was not happy with the quality.
The buds had great color but they were very airy even the biggest ones. The worst part is that it took a lot of flower to achieve at least a weak high. :|
I used a SpiderFarmer Sf1000, normal gardening soil as medium, BioTabs as fertiliser and a fan for airflow. I watered with tap water, which is pretty hard water and I do not ph my water (as BioTabs says there is no need to in soil), but I let it sit for a couple of days before I use it.Looking forward to any help:confused:

Try different genetics and possibly add something to ur soil I love worm castings kinda hard to over do it with worm casting you can also top dress with WC and very cheap..I'd still check the ph of the water because ph affect how your plant uptake nutrients as well...I'd start with different genetics

Yeah, the BF PP Auto sucks compared to their feminised version. I have grown a few of both versions, and their auto version is simply TRASH compared to their feminised version!

If they were”airy” you might have harvested to early. You have any pics of the plant ?

You have been told couple of weeks and than 3-4. I see no 2 week advice even thou this is common answer to all kind of harvest questions. Next time better reconsider one thing: your effort already given to the plant, time it took contra ruining all that with your impatience. Stop counting time, only time you take care about is light schedule. You start considering harvest in about two weeks when your pistils are all brown or if you planning next run than its around 4-6 weeks since you notice they start to change their colour. And after that they still have their swelling stage ahead, in addition every seed ripes different also. If you chop it early, you end up with airy shit taste weed… I am not saying you did but this is happening all the time when people count time. I personaly dunno when I exactly flipped, it is absolutely not important for me, but now I see I have flipped too late :D Better luck with your next grow and do rather photoperiodic plant IMo.

Hey mate!

Most importantly, did you use any flower nutrients? You need some form of pk boost when using biotabs to get lots of terpenes and good quality flowers (terpene production is what you want if you want more power/complex effect and better taste).
--> Checkout biotabs pk compost tea (if you can brew it) or the biotabs liquid pk boost supplement! If you did not use something like this then this was your bottleneck. Will make a massive difference on your next grow!
--> Drying/curing properly is essential! If you plant had more smell alive compared to the cured buds then something went wrong! Aim for a slow dry 10+ days 18c 60%rh (approximately, 23c 65%rh will also be fine but 18c 60% is near optimal), and a long cure where you want the buds to stabilise around 60-62%rh which you can check with mini hygrometers. I don't smoke less than 45 days cure and aim for 100 days cure before judging the flower
--> HARVEST TIME: so you probably heard there is a 'harvest window' of like 3-4 weeks, when the plants are 'ripe enough' to harvest (nearly no clear thc left) then you can harvest directly and you will have relatively week weed with little taste and the effect will not have 'personality'. When everything looks ripe I suggest wait another 2 weeks before harvesting (and check very well your plant is not showing hermaphrodite traits!!!). Usually when a breeder sais their strain is 60 days flower then I take 84 days flower with near optimal grow conditions, and if I would harvest at 60 days the flowers look pretty but lack effect and taste. ==> The terpenes are mainly what gives your flowers personality, forget the indica/sativa thing , its about terpenes (also the cbd/thc ratio can be important, mainly for pure sativas with near to 0 cbd this makes their effect more trippy/nervous), if you have a lemon tasting strain it may feel uplifting whilst if you have those strong pepper tasting strains they are more physically relaxing etc... You will only get significant levels of these interesting/comfortable effects if you flower long enough!

Yes people say genetics, it is true you can get unlucky, if you can grow photos instead of autos then go for it (also gives you more control, personally I find it much easier to get very good results with non-autos), however most phenotypes from seeds from famous seed companies are BY FAR 'good enough' to give a strong buzz (depending on strain...). I was very sad when visiting many dispensaries in California that their 'cookies' crosses and 'og' crosses grown from clones were much less tasty/strong than my 'commercial breeder' seeds from barneys farm, DNA genetics etc...

He pulled his plants way to early. The stuff in Cali was most likely pulled early and fed like shit. It's what I see from alot of other commercial guys. The cuts were most likely good they just fucked it up.

You are absolutely right :D
I was pretty unclear I just meant to say if you don't have smell/effect then it's probably related to grow techniques and only a small chance that it is because of a bad phenotype.

@Lordhooha Aside from pulling the plants way too early, don't you also think the lack of pk nutrients had a big influence on the lack of quality?

Most likely it was due to pulling way early.

You pulled too early.
It could be poor husbandry but we won't know because you pulled too early.
Some of it could be genetics but we won't know because you pulled too early.
It could also be heat induced but we won't know because you pulled too early.

Anyway you did well because you got them to the point you killed them deliberately. Next time go longer and good luck.

Grow some In House Genetics and you won't be disappointed. Go for a Gelato cross if you want compact dense nugs :blsmoke: https://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/in-house-genetics-33rd-degree/prod_7387.html or this one should give you nice compact dense nugs it's Gellati crossed with Pancakes which is two different cookies strains crossed together https://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/in-house-genetics-buttermilk-biscuits/prod_9080.html:eyesmoke: Btw the reason you are getting airy buds is because of the genetics. Get better genetics dude! :bigjoint:
