I figured mine out like that, right down to the very last watt lol. I think it costs me like $6-8 in hydro per ounce.

Less than $0.25/gram and going down, since all the gear is long paid for.

Not including start up cost, just the recurring costs, power, soil, nutes and bulbs etc. It costs an avg of $20 an oz, it costs $30 a month to run a 600w mh/hps so $50 for a thousand watter. It costs $35 for a big bag of promix bx which almost exactly fills 6 7 gallon smart pots. It costs $3 a week in nutes and if you wanna replace the hps bulb every cycle that's $36(I know I'm a cheapo).

So theres $115 a month I usually end up with 8-10 oz over the 2 month flower period so actually it's more like $23+ per oz, I have every last penny in the notes on my phone it works out to roughly $20 an oz. That's growing with a 600w in a 4×4 tent. I'm doing two one thousand watters and a vertical 600w next time in an open 10×12 room so I hope to get a much bigger bang for my buck.

That is the key part right there. The costs on a new grow using all top end brand new gear is gonna cost way more then a grow using older long ago paid for gear.
I just had to purchase some new gear, lights , tents etc. To replace old stuff going on 10 years old. But the first harvest will more then cover the costs.
Other then bulbs , soil, and sticky strips my costs are pretty low. Especially buying my soil amendments in bulk.
Once gear is paid for electricity is the largest cost for me which probably averages about $150 or so a month.
It still works out to way less of a cost then buying, plus I know exactly what I am smoking and eating and I find it to be a really fun and relaxing hobby.

when i ran 2 hps i was in about 600 every 3 months on power and about 30 dollers on nutes lol

I grow so much thus its so cheap.. a little HID action in late Winter to ready for spring .,..then its full on
like a Canadian wheat farmer ...lol
Tho I'm encouraged to spend as a tax loss? I book heavy on R&D
so far research on Berny Kratky $us6000 including flights and hotel and more for my winter break lol

tho last year and this year will be the first time in many years I won't be growing in winter

and feels very strange
