Yes! just because it doesnt have pumps to water for you doesnt mean its not hydroponic......... Some people still use flood tables with coco or peat based MEDIUMS and water them more often in smaller pots. Hydroponics is a METHOD and 80% of people growing actually use this method and not know it.
Appearantly someone rubbed you the wrong way....I don't know about the rest of you, but I live in an area where the general population is clueless when it comes to marijuana. I can't count how many times I have heard an idiot refer to any high grade weed as "hydro" or "dro" (even worse) even though they have no idea what medium and/or method it was grown in. I always do my best to correct them politely by saying something along the lines of, "You can't be too sure that it's actually hydro unless you knew it wasn't grown in soil, my friend." to which they usually reply with something along the lines of, "But this is some killer shit, man. That means it's hydro!"
It may not mean much to some of you, but this type of ignorance infuriates the shit out of me and I am normally a pretty laid back guy. The strains I grow (all in soil, mind you) are some of the best I have ever had and when people refer to my weed as hydro it makes me want to puke. I urge you all so correct the uneducated.
Just because it's killer weed and covered in trichomes does NOT mean it's hydro.

However, I understand exactly what you mean. I remember when I was taught the "ways of the world" in these matters, I was ignorant too I did however, want to learn. Most ppl now like you mention just simply don't care! Also, I think that unless you grow for yourself you don't REALLY understand the way it all works. Nevertheless, like you i politely and gently try to educate.

thats funy.. cuz where i live, dro, is a certain strain.. i know its not technically a name, and not its own strain duh, but there is only one type of bud that is called dro.. n thats dro lol.. idk how else to say it, dro here is literally always the same bud, like if sumone says they have dro, u know exactly what the bud is like n u know exactly how it tastes.. i believe its an indica strain, but seriously, whenever u hear dro over here, u know EXACTLY how it is n what it looks like.. light green, orange, VERY dense, smooth hitting, good high but nothing like some haze or any type of kush in the world.. around here it would go something like this:I don't know about the rest of you, but I live in an area where the general population is clueless when it comes to marijuana. In the past in one area I lived in something similar was common. Any herb of high quality was always called skunk by people no matter what it really was. To them skunk equated to top quality so people always called everything decent or better skunk.

1: kush/cheese/widow/SD/STW(super train wreck)/haze etc..(strong indicas n sativas)
2: crappier indicas n sativas but still crystally, nice head high (still pretty decent)
3: DRO, lol.. yes thats what its considered throughout almost ALL of NY (even if i were to go to the city n someone said they had dro, it would b the exact same bud i would imagine even if i have never even seen the person before) can be shitty high, can be very good high, depending on the quality of it (like i said ALWAYS the same KIND of bud, qualtity is the only thing that changes, taste, looks, always the same)
4: middies.. garabage poop... we all know this....
only reason i felt inclined to type all of this is because i know its not a strain but around here, dro is dro... BUT its not the same way u were saying it.. if anything is bomb around here no one would ever call it dro.. dro is like the last thing u want to smoke before smoking some low grade mid/reg greens
