I got laid off today....

Thanks Bass, I have actually been reading up on DWC and I think that's a good idea. I want a big Tote set up with 3 1/2 inch net pots (I see alot with six but can they fit the whole harvest?) Maybe my uncle can make me an ebb and flow system, i can't do that myself.

Also I read that there are some nutes that fix your ph, so really its easier. I think I can manage that.

Wow a lot of responses LOL. Growing for your own meds is rewarding and fun.....I highly suggest you don't mistake learning to grow with making up for lost income. This is a long term learning curve, and things can go bad quick. It can be sickening to put a lot of money and time into a grow and it go south, hopefully it won't.

My wife and I have been taking turns being laid off for 4 years now.....the $ from growing for me is helpful, but I've been doing this a long time, like all the other guys responding to you. It shouldn't be something you're counting on to survive or you could be in trouble.

I wish you all the best in finding a new and better job out there.....losing a job sucks.

If you do pull the trigger and go for the grow, you're in the right place for sure. Good luck!

Really I spend alot of money on smoke, now that I'm not working full time I can'tafford it. Im not thinking about making this a big operation. Just some for me and a couple of friends.

; )

Got a car? Any chance of raising seedlings indoor then planting out in the bush ,just in time for the summer season. Get a shovel ,nutes ,lime, water crystals ,mulch etc. prepare the holes now. Tell no one. You will harvest a lot more and it will smoke better than indoor. And much less risk for you. Get some cash out of it then start a proper indoor grow with the works ,not a half assed cheap set up.
Amen.

Another testifyin' witness for the wild blue yonder...

Well all I can say is that I have done 3 ok grows on a budget. I am only running 2 C.A.P 150 watt hps lights ($60.00 each, but started with one), ECOPlus ECO396 Water Pump ($30.00), ActiveAqua 2 outlet Air Pump ($15.00) and 3 5gal buckets ($2.50 each). Of course there are some small parts that you will need to complete a system but it really isn't that hard to do. My grows have been done in a 2' x 4' x 6' closet (height based on where lights can hang from)

Take a look at some of my grow videos (http://www.youtube.com/MrManishWayz) and post and you will see a few different systems that I have built on a budget.

Yea JJ I was reading about that but my house is always cold. Thinking about even drilling a hole on my closet door for tubing that leads to my ( ventilation) window, but I don't know if that would make a big difference.

Well if heat isn't going to be an issue then I'd say go for it. Although the most fiscally safe route would be soil, I don't blame you at all for not going with that. Watching plants grow in soil is like watching paint dry. Ugh! No thank you. DWC and aero both give you the fastest growth rates.

If you're gonna go DWC, I'd seriously look into a twin Waterfarm/SCROG setup for a closet grow. Search for the username SCOTTYBALLS on this site to see just what this little setup can do.

Here's the kind of setup you should be aiming for imo:

Only thing I'd do differently would be swapping out those two bubble buckets in favor of Waterfarms, that is provided of course you have the extra cash on hand.

One more bit of advice on seeds - seriously take a good look at Gage Green Genetics Bright Moments (Grapestomper x Grapestomper OG). As of right now they're still available on Attitude. Only reason is because most of us on this forum are completely spent after their recent 4/20 promotion. Otherwise I guarantee you they'd already be long gone, just like every other notable GGG drop!

^Looks like in whoever's pic that is built themselves a nice little Mills Pride C13 cab there. Ahhhh, the Overgrow days!

Wow JJ that looks like the perfect setup for me simple clean pretty ; ) I'm gonna have to read up on the scrog method a little more but that is pretty much exactly what I wanted.

Thanks Bass, I will make sure and bother you if I have trouble lol.

Hey you can do a scrounge grow, so far I spend about $100 dollars.
OK, I had a large PA speaker cabinet to use, that was already enameled out in white inside, as I grew shrooms in there... probably saved a few bucks
Got a cooltube, hi/low temp and hygrometer, ppm pen, pH pen, nutes, potted up 3 times so far, spend about $3 eaach time for 10 new pots.
Seeds were from some bud I realy enjoyed, and was grown by a friend.
Still in veg stage at the moment so I have a dual 18W eurolux 600mm CFL fitting as well as some 23W CFLs in there, a friend is picking up ballasts for me from another friend in Johannesburg today and I'll get those when he returns next week ( they were a gift).

if you live near Austin, I know several places that are hiring
As dumb as this may sound, STAY ON THE UNEMPLOYMENT AS LONG AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN. If you're truly serious about learning this hobby, all of the spare time you'll have will be a godsend. You take a new job, and guess what? It may turn out to suck ass and you'll immediately lose your bennies because you took it. I should know - That's exactly how I lost mine in Texas... they don't give you an inch there.

Stay on it. Don't make any mistakes when filling out your stuff on the 'net every other week and you'll be a-OK. Take this time to browse this forum, 420mag, Cannabis.com, the Farm, ICmag, etc, and absorb as much info as you possibly can. Save the best info on your hard drive, buy and read cover to cover "The Bible" by Jorge Cervantes, Integral Hydroponics by G. Lowe, that classic book (name escapes me atm) by Mel Frank, and Principles of Plant Breeding (by whose name escapes me as well). Basically invest four hours a day combing through everything you can and I promise you - halfway through your unemployment run you'll come out of this a Marijuana growing god!

^^^^^^^^^^^^

Lol I'm gonna try that route for sure. Probably go to school before I get another job anyway. Gotta be self providing (for my bud needs). So now it's time to soak up the knowledge, im slowly getting it.

You guys have been really helpful. Thank you, even to the ones with smart mouths lol.
