So my question is why do you get airy light buds what are you doing wrong to get that instead of dense buds ?

not enough light, not useing the proper NPK for bloom, ph all fucked up causeing a lockout. theirs a few things that will cause airy buds.

I was doing a dirt grow and both times the buds have come out airy so I am not sure what to do differently next time I used a 1000 watt hps on 9 plants about 2 feet above and the sesei bloom nutes and sweet leaf. I also used overdrive for two out of the last three weeks of bloom. I let them bloom between 9 to 11 weeks just to make sure I didn't pick to early

I hear that cfl's usually give airy buds. Also there are many products that boast they are bud hardeners. GH uses dry Koolbloom and I believe AN uses Overdrive as there bud hardeners.
 
Yeah there are some nutrient boosters that help a lot which u add in flowering stage. I think low nitrogen affects it too but don't quote me. Also has anyone ever heard of adding sugar two weeks before harvest too increase bud. I read that it makes 20-30% diff.

yes you can add molasses or jam or other sugar based additives with good carbs for the plants to bug larger and taste better, you can do it all through flowering and I hear molasses increases yield by a good margin.

That is basically true enough but to equal HID lighting you need more watts of CFL’s than you do of HID lighting and most CFL growers do not go that heavy into their lighting so many do get airy buds.

Someone would need 5.3 125-watt CFL’s to equal one 400-watt HPS. Most CFL growers do not do that. They may come close to the wattage by using many CFL’s but the lower wattage the less light penetration/light travel distance/area coverage they have and even by spreading them out above and around their plants they still do not match HID lighting.
 
It is like trying to use four 250-watt HID lights in place of one 1000-watt HID light. Watts to watts you are burning an equal amount but a 250-watt HID light has a 3ft. by 3.ft. area of coverage. That equals 9sq. ft. A 1000-watt HID light has an area of coverage of 8ft. by 8ft. That equals 64sq. ft. So it would not take four 250-watts HID lights to equal one 1000-watt HID light even though the total wattage would be the same. It would take 7.1 250-watt HID lights to give the same area of coverage as a single 1000-watt HID light and you would still not have an equal amount of light penetration.
 
The same goes for CFL’s. Total watts do not equate to equal lighting when you add up lower watt CFL’s and compare it to HID lighting.
 
HID lighting produces more grams per watt than CFL’s and that is what is most important. The maximization of production per watt of electricity used and presently you cannot beat HID lighting when it comes to doing that.

Dudes, I say that heat gives light airy buds. I tried with a 400 at 90-over a 100 and got the most light wacked airy buds and I tried again with a 400 at 60-70 F and I got the hardest, most sexy nugs I ever saw. I did some research and heat, is the #1 cause if airy stringy buds. They are a sad thing. What was your heat, cause anything over 8o I think is bad.

ha ha ha ok not true.hell i ran as high as 100 degrees and had the biggiest yield ever, almost a pound off one plant.

So basically there isn't a simple answer it is something I am going to have to play with and figure out because I know my lighting is more than enough I used bloom boosters carbo load and overdrive as prescribed on there labels I even switched nutes between different grows to see if that would make a differennce I used pure blend pro bloom for flowering once and I have used sensei bloom A and B the rest of my grows. I use carbo load throughout the grow veg through bloom so I dunno I have got some new seeds from a different site so I guess I'll see what they do and hope. Oh yeah I kept the temperature between 70- 80 degrees F. :? :confused:

with plenty of air flow and fresh air, along with a good exhaust heat well not be an issue

probably genetics, if every other aspect of your environment is up to par, try co2, molasses, pk boosters, try growing it in rockwool next time and just top feed it....
