What's up everyone? Time for the weekly Sunday update. These gals are on day 28 now of 12/12. Most of the gals are looking pretty nice, but the BOG Sour Boggle in the LED tent is looking a little rough.

20161009_171308.jpg 20161009_171318.jpg

I'm not really sure, I thought maybe some phosphorus deficiency with the reddish petioles mixed with calcium but I honestly don't know. I'm pretty terrible at identifying nutrient related problems. Any suggestions would be appreciated. She's been up until recently fed the same strength as the other gals, which is 1.4 EC at 5.7/8 pH, but I've been bumping that up to 2.0 EC as of tonight.

One of the Dynasty Des*Tar Bx1 had this funky looking leaf low on the plant, the rest is looking alright though.

20161009_192348.jpg 20161009_192352.jpg

Overall shot of the HPS tent. It's pretty crowded in there, and the damn Des*Tar keep getting taller and are touching the hood (one of them anyway), that I'm unable to raise any higher.

20161009_192412.jpg 20161009_192417.jpg 20161009_192428.jpg

Few random bud shots. First is Delicious Seeds Critical Sensi Star, last two are Dynasty Des*Tar Bx1. Second plant is the same with the funky leaf above.

Just transplanted the new generation from 1oz shot glass cups to 16oz party cups. Looking a little sad (over-watered), they should perk right up and take off in a day or two though.

those spots dont look dead. i've been under the impression that phos def causes dead spot in the leaves versus discoloration

I appreciate the visit and response bud! In unfortunate news, I do notice a bunch of leaves across most plants showing some sign of illness. It's too hard to get a good picture with the HPS on so nothing visual to post. I have decided to simplify further and go strictly V+B and pH down as necessary. I was adding the RAW Industries calcium/magnesium to bring tap EC to 0.3 or so then to desired level with V+B.

Tomorrow before lights on I'll try to snag some pictures because either I'm oblivious or this was a rather rapid onset of symptoms, and either way I'm concerned and could use some guidance.

yikes, yea ive been nursing a phos def that was onset from light starvation. shes still showing purple stems on the fan leaves but i transplanted only a week so ago.should be turning around steadily. id keep up that calcium feeding. its probably being all used up rather rapidly from bonding flowers to the stems. (i think thats where it goes. i mean that's where it goes on tomatos soo)

I didn't look. Super high and just talking inbetween itching and shit

But normally p def is caused by overfeeding.
Usually goes hand in hand with ca.
N tox locks calciu which then combines with all the p in flower as levels rise to form an insoluble calcium phosphate

Hmm, what do you recommend as a remedy? I stared thinking a nice solid flush (at least 200% volume of pot) at low strength followed by a feed at regular strength? I'll probably heed @iHearAll advice and re-continue with the RAW calcium/mag, I think those are distinctly lacking in V+B if I recall correctly.

Just for a more complete picture. Tap is 0.1 EC out of faucet, that's usually fortified with RAW Industries Calcium/magnesium (calnit and epsom) to EC 0.3, then Hydroponic-Research Veg+Bloom powder nutrient until desired EC. For awhile plants only watered heavily once a day at lights on (coco), have since switched to several smaller feedings starting at lights on continuing for up to 5 hours, sometimes a bit later (strictly on weekends), with rare feedings just prior to lights-off. Smart pots show visible signs of salt build-up, crusted in places on the outside. I wasn't sure if this was just salt or possibly mold so I started to preemptively add DM Zone at maintenance dose or 1ml/1gal. Another thing is the pH of mixed nutrients slowly drifts up a bit, if I mix and feed it's at desired pH, the following day usually gains a point or two in the alkaline for left-over nute solution.

Temps range in HPS tent 73-84, with humidity ranging from 30s to upper 40s, so rather low.

I know it sound confusing before, or at least it sound like the plants are reservoir fed, which is not the case. I simply mix nutes in a 5 gallon homer bucket, sometimes two at once to save for the following day. Usually the left-over feed has risen in pH from 5.7/8 to 6.0 even 6.1, and often this is used as it's what's available.

Just a few shots just prior to lights on, day 31. First two are overall shots, second two are Delicious Seeds Critical Sensi Star, next 4 are various Dynasty Des*Tar Bx1, and finally a nearly forgotten (not really, just hard to get to and shaded by the fan) DNA Kosher Tangie (now called 24k Gold I think).

This just explained everything that's happening to me on my current flowering girls... I didn't even think about N toxicity, which I know is high. I just thought a Phosphorus def. was kicking my ass and locking Calcium with it.

Yeah bro, another forum mentor over at IC had the same thing to say. I'm mixing up a giant 10 gallon batch of flush and 5 gallons of feed for tomorrow night. I'm determined to get this shit under control. Going to be tedious hand-watering 5 foot tall plants from under the canopy and vacuuming out 15 gallons of run-off, but it's happening, lol.

I hear ya whatever it takes, more like a second job/love affair with these girls rather then a hobby. Hope ya get it figured out, looking happier then mine lol.

Thanks brother, call it strategic photography, lol. No, I mean they generally do look well and healthy, but if you stare rather than peek it's more obvious they all are suffering a little bit.

I'm now finished with the ~12 gallons of flush (8x plants in 1 gallon pots), 0.8 EC @ 5.8 pH. I vacuumed the run-off a few times, V+B mixes up a light shade of rose or pink, the run-off was definitely a darker shade a light red. My knees are killing me from being, well on my feet for 11 hours (usually doesn't bother me) then kneeling and sitting on my knees for 2 hours watering these gals. I'm relieved to be finished with that portion, I just hope it was an adequate amount of run-off to relieve the symptoms. I think if I keep up on several waterings a day in conjunction with this decent flush they'll finish without too much damage.

The Des*Tar are finally starting to fatten up, a few pistils are darkening here and there. Both Critical Sensi Star are looking nice and frosty, really starting to pack weight. The Kosher tangie is..in the back, where I can't see it (buds are nice little spears though). Sour Boggle looks like hell, but she's chugging along. I reckon she'll be the first to get the axe, BOG lists a 7-8 week harvest window and that may not be too far off.

The new group of young ladies are slowly growing in the veg tent, maybe about 2 weeks from soak. They have been a bit neglected while I focus/prioritize the flowering gals. This is going to be crazy when I start working my second job (third if you count the plants, lol). Hopefully they and I manage, haha.

Time for an update.

20161018_214009.jpg 20161018_214003.jpg 20161018_213845.jpg
The two tents. Left is 600w HPS powered 4x4 and the left is a ~185w COB LED at about 30% due temps/humidity.

20161018_213851.jpg

One topped bud of the BOG Sour Boggle Now that I've been able to due multiple hand watering per day and that flush last week, she is not deteriorating so that's awesome. Those dead spots wont ever recover obviously, but the calyx have really swollen since and she seems to be doing alright in-spite of the troubles.

20161018_213957.jpg 20161018_214015.jpg 20161018_214035.jpg

Few random shots because they look like crap with the orange/yellow tinge from the HPS, lol.

First is again the same Delicious Seeds Critical Sensi Star that I always post because she's the most developed plant and the only one I have easy access to in the HPS tent. Following that is two Des*Tar Bx1. The first of that two is a short, much more dense and obviously early finishing pheno, she's untopped and not near the size as the third photo, which was the smallest plant after topping now the tallest, growing above the HPS hood. I'm going to try to get some better photos tomorrow before lights on. I meant to today but my phone was nearly dead already.

20161018_214158.jpg

Finally the young'n's. They are already just about 3 weeks since soak. They sprouted right way but either didn't like the transplant to 16oz cups from 1oz party cup or that initial watering/feed or pH because they just stalled out (actually purpling a bit). They are now starting to grow with roots out the bottom and I can water a bit daily.

Damn I'm tired, forgot a few things. The second tent is a 2x2. And I know it's barely filled out, it's premature use was indeed sort of impromptu and not properly utilized, hence the new generation. I intend to build a screen for each plant, two in HPS one in LED, 2x4 and 2x2 respectively.

I grazed a bud on the CSS and it smelled piney, sweet, and sharp but of what I can't recall and at the time couldn't exactly pinpoint either. I also smell lemon but I think that's some Killer Kush from a friend that I broke up, lol.

Blaagh it's also day 38 of flower now if I'm not mistaken.

Few shots from today, day 39 of flowering just before lights-on. Got the various Des*Tar, you can see the variation among the phenos. Final two pictures are one each of the two Critical Sensi Star. Not pictured is the Sour Boggle from the LED tent nor the Kosher Tangie because she's under the fan and hard to get to.

Small update, on day 43 of flowering. No pictures today, I was at work too early, but perhaps tomorrow.

I've been scaling back the strength of the nutrients, down to 1.1 EC now going into week 7. I do see some seeds have taken, as underdeveloped as they are. I noticed them on one Des*Tar and on the Sour Boggle, so that's cool to at least have a few seeds in addition to the smoke. I'm sure there's more I just can't get a look at most of the plants.

The buds on some are swelling and I can tell the time is near on the more indica dominant plants. The couple Des*Tar that are very hazey in structure are starting to fill out finally, I was kind of worried that pH/lockout problems had spelled doom for a proper harvest.

I also noticed the Kosher Tangie has a lot of wilting leaves with dark/blackening serrations. It looks like phosphorus deficiency and lack of light, but it's also happening on many of the leaves in the bud sights of the sucker buds I should have trimmed (also lacking light and circulation). I pulled a bud off with affected leaves and it appears to just be affecting the leaves, but I'm still a bit worried. I can't rearrange the plants at this point and she's under the fan and gets no direct airflow and hardly any light. If I must harvest her prematurely that's not ideal but okay, rather sacrifice her if necessary to save the rest.

I pulled that Kosher Tangie tonight . She had a lot of lower leaves with blackened serrations and generally weak petioles, likely due to low light and poor circulation in retrospect but I wanted to be careful. However, now the deed is done. Have a large kitchen bowl filled and hanging out in the freezer awaiting the fresh frozen Rosin treatment.

20161026_172918.jpg 20161026_172903.jpg

This bud is actually from one of the Critical Sensi Star that was drooping low and in my way , so I also chopped it but hanging this one to dry for a sample smoke. Zero flush, pH problems, general neglect (real life), and fingers crossed , lol.

Time for another update. I've been busy but it's finally nearing the end of this crop. Day 58 and most of the girls are in the flush for a week now. Just 2 lone Des*Tar receiving feed as of today but will switch to plain water tomorrow. I've also now harvested quite a bit of the plants because the top buds are so heavy and sagging into the catchment tray. BOG Sour Boggle has been pulled, and both of the Delicious Critical Sensi Star came down tonight as well (and one Des*Tar). Been smoking off some premature CSS and D* buds (from like a week ago) pressed to rosin and no complaints here.

20161106_221816.jpg

Fresh pressed rosin from D* (dried to smokeable premie nugs no cure). Had to freeze the dab tool otherwise the sappy goo rosin is too difficult to deal with.

20161107_221852.jpg 20161107_221858.jpg

Random Des*. She was more compact/less stretch, and a notably earlier finisher. Just a bit lower than main bud, snipped this from drying bud as sample. When handling the smell is sweet and tropical fruit with a bit of rotten or solvent type of notes .

20161107_230735.jpg

Finally a picture of the crammed temporary drying closet. Meant for much of this to be fresh frozen Rosin bug we must improvise .

Posting from my phone so hopefully it makes sense . Also tired as he'll but supposed to be up in line 4 hours . Ugh

The culmination of my efforts. Nice fat bud of Delicious Seeds Critical Sensi Star pressed out to rosin.

Been smoking exclusively my own grown for nearly three weeks and loving it. Plus I have gifted some out as samples with positive reviews which is the most satisfying.

I wanted to cob some up, but, harvest was a bit crazier then I anticipated. I will be more prepared and at least better learned next time around.

Oh and I have plenty of mature seeds which is awesome. It's all kind of mixed up because I don't know which of each three donor (plus possible CSS hermie) for each female. As such I intend to mix it all up and grow some out eventually and see what I get.

Anyway, I think that concludes this thread/grow. Thanks for stopping by.
