I will put my 2 cents in on this grow,
MG is essentially nitrates and phosphates, both are SUPER fucking powerful nutes and when used correctly are UnBEATABLE, thats not a challenge its a fact, Ammonium nitrate (the main ingredient in MG) is the single most powerful Nitrogen supplement in use today, and potassium Phosphate is along the same lines of potency. Now that being said useing MG exclusively causes your plants to only want nitrates and phosphates and your plants will die without them, its like heroin for plants.

Now MG clearly states what it has in it....but most nute company's dont, and they use dummy words to cover up their use of nitrates and phosphates so dont buy into the price hype, every single nute company on the market has at minimum a 250% price markup at the shelf, some companys (advanced is one) have a 500% markup.

I am not advocating the use of MG because of the binding agents they use can and are toxic, but you can save your self 1000s of dollars by just buying ammonium phosphate, potassium phosphate and blood meal teas and your plants will grow like a motherfucker if you get your mix perfect.
Hey Backwoods thanks for the info I like it. It's basically what this thread is all about in the long run, besides learning a ton it's to get away from over priced soil and nutes.

Keep it coming!

....oh and did you mean ammonium nitrate in your last paragragh and also where would you recommend buying these amendments?

backwoods nice comment man i agree completely im not big on soil but i love my soiless mixes.. you can get most your essential nutrients, from blood meal and bone meal alone... couple additives and some lemon lime dolomite ready to rock......! i dont like bat poop and i really dont like worm shit either they help but not as much as you think.. cost effectiveness, a good cheap line of nutes and a medium you can use over and over again.. Careful about pileing up old soil it can creat toxic fumes as it breaks down bring bugs and be a good fire hasard once completely dry...(additives not dirt)... im not preaching these guys just chimed in, so i figure a quick re run.. I run dyna gro line nutes and soiless... Doing So DWC is even cheaper but you have cost of electric seeming as they are both so close and i am last and like my product to go a lil longer i use soiless.... hope this helps... Dyna gro can be as simple as you want 1-3 parts at all time.. clay pellets and lava rock are where its at.. you can always get super clean... my method i sometimes have to leach or steam my soiless mix.. no biggy

If you use MG exclusively on houseplants and such they will eventually die. Chemicals are meant to be supplemental but you can get away with it because of the short life cycle.
lol @ amonium nitrate, not that he is wrong just that buying that stuff by itself automatically puts you on a list. Think Tim McVae. That said, you can get it at farm and ranch stores but you have to register to buy it.

Its simple. He's doing this for him. To see if MG can out grow HIS usual stuff. your over thinking. this is not to prove to us, but to him.
The point I'm making is that once you add other nutrients to MG or Cornucopia or any other nutrients, is that you are then changing the nutrient ratios and you are no longer comparing MG to Cornucopia. Then the actual nutrient ratios can be so off that it can cause problems like nutrient lockout, which can lockout other needed nutrients.
So once you alter the nutrient ratios and more importantly, not knowing exactly how much you altered it, makes the comparison invalid. You can't say at the end that Cornucopia was better or MG was better because you have, maybe drastically, altered the nutrient ratios. I'm telling people not to draw any conclusions from this test because once you add nutrients to other nutrients you have changed those products, maybe drastically. So you are then comparing an unknown product you made up to another unknown product you also made up.
That is why I suggested that, if he wanted a valid test, compare only the Cornucopia to only the MG. I also don't understand why anyone would add additional nutrients before you've even determined if the primary nutrients are lacking. If you notice, after a period of growth, that something is lacking it could very well be that you aren't feeding often enough or you are feeding too often, depending on what the plant is showing you. It doesn't necessarily mean your primary nutrients are lacking even if you see a deficiency; it could just be a feeding schedule issue. Adding new and additional nutrients are only needed when you can see clear evidence of deficiencies after you have determined your feeding schedule is accurate.
This test is testing one made up nutrient mix to another made up nutrient mix of unknown nutrient ratios, it is not comparing Cornucopia to MG.

Why is it a chemical in explosives or something lol? It actually sounds like it might be...

Because he is not testing MG vs FF. He is testing two separate feeding schedules. Like two dinner dishes, Not alike at all just which schedule or which (dinner plate) is tastiest to him. Not which item on the plate.

Ignore the douche behind the curtain. It's like talking to a wall T he just doesn't get it. He's had nothing but negative comments from the start and I'm about to ban him from the thread.

Just finished cleaning the big flower room real good, took all the girls out most were thirsty it was a good time to do it. Taking a break from watering and feeding got my feet up for a few with a coffee and some of that hash that I made. I'm so stoked about how much better it is when you let it soak longer first. Potency is almost of the charts,,,grape apollo bubble hash puf puff pass>>>>>>

Got a run of NHK at 4 weeks today, going to be another batch of beasters I'm thinking even more so than last time :)

If you want the ultimate N & P supplement, look no further than peruvian seabird guano - nature's slow release high N & P nute... cheap (just got a 2.5lb bag for $8 (enough for an entire grow)), organic, and time release (pelletized), and your buds won't have a chemical taste if you don't flush it well enough. Unlike chem ferts it feeds your soil web and doesn't cause salt buildup. I got a trash can full of super soil cooking out on the porch now... getting ready to make another... next batch is gonna get some rock phosphates as well that i picked up today (<$5) :)

Most organic amendments are cheap (except wormcastings :) ) as long as you don't buy the processed mixes. Except for running out of guano, castings and dirt, I'm still on the bags I bought at the beginning of the year for what goes into my supersoil. Castings are the most expensive... i'm gonna have to get a worm bin going that's for sure. Guanos gonna be a main component in my recycled/conditioned soil :)

i think in a week or two we will see who's doing over-all better at that point. Urea is taken up very fast which is where MG's n comes from right? Butt FF got shit in the soil that like to do the slow mo. So overal the color of MG will change fast but FF growth may catch up in my opinion. and look better overall. Hopefully. Who's down for a friendly wager ? for some beans?
What's going on T. No takers on your friendly wager yet ; ?)

Day 11

Today all of the NHKs were topped and so far the MG is edging out the OF. I should have taken pics before I lopped their heads off as they looked a little naked right now lol. The MG girls only need to be watered about half as often as the OF, I guess that's the binding agent keeping the soil damp. They will get watered tomorrow and the following watering will be with a half dose of the mg nutes. The OF girls got their first dose of nutes yesteday a light dose of the Energy. The directions call for a tbls/gal of that with every watering. I can see it kicking in already so they might catch up.

Day 3

For the Grape Apollo clones not much to report other than they look happy and are reaching up for the light. I still have a number of clones to put into dirt I'll pot up six again and put 3 in OF, just not sure yet what the medium will be for the other 3. I would like to start running my recycled soil against the rest too but that's going to be a couple of weeks down the road. Barely have 2 nickels to rub together until next harvest lol. Doesn't seem to bother me too much though :)

So my choices then are pretty limited for what to use for another medium right now, I might do straight up MG soil with no amendments (it's going to be hard not aerating it) or additives. Again though with no dough I can't pick up anymore MG soil right now hmmm. Looking like the third trial batch will get put on hold for a couple of weeks, I'm sure I'll have new clones coming out of the chamber by then
