Mixed spectrum COBs

safe for the drivers, but ideal holders are out of spec at 250V (BJB@150V)

i have yet to hear of a problem from someone running holders over voltage and may be guilty of it myself.
I'm not planning on running holders, so that's okay. Trying to keep costs to a minimum on this build and I'm comfortable with soldering. Thanks for the quick reply!

Hey peoples. I'm curious about some things.

Now, I understand that 3500's have more red in them. And 5000's have more blue. But, how is it that a 4000k- which to me looks like it's got an even mix of both. Doesn't have enough red?

I've looked at the charts for each globe spectrum. And the 4000k peaks in both red and blue. With a nice chunk in the other colors too. Wouldn't having a light that fairly evenly spreads it's output across the visible spectrum be more effective?

I mean isn't that one of the reasons why HID lights were so effective. Besides their massive photon density...

And do I really need to have multiple cobs to cover my intended 2x2' area? I'm only asking because it's not like you could cram a bunch of HIDs into that space. And they do ok with just the one. Or am I missing something in this equation?

More would be better in your situation because of your height. You could achieve better coverage with more cobs at lower wattage.
I run 10 cxa1507's, 5 3000k and 5 4000k in a 1x1.5' space
A single hid has a much larger footprint that a single cob

Okay. So its the spread area. Righto.
If you want to get the most out of your total height, yes.
If you are planning on keeping them short, 2x2 divided by 4 cobs would be fine. Higher wattage cobs need to be kept farther from the plants.
Mine are within 12 inches of the top of my plants with no burning or bleaching, but they are 15w cobs.

Sorry, what no phosppr means? Is it not a COB?
White light cobs are (usually) a group of blue 450ish nm led diodes exciting an phosphor coating that then emitts white light. These cobs are just the blue diodes, no phosphor coating. Good if you want to add ablue light for photomorphogenic effects like reducing stretch: the plant leaf thinks its at the very top of the canopy and doesnt need to stretch for more light. Not sure if it will counteract every type of stretch thou.

Nowdays ,my favourite blend is 3000°K 80Ra and 3000°K 90Ra ,at a device ratio of 1: 2 ,respectively.
( I'm using Citizen CLU048 1212 for this blend of white COBs. )

I've some plants at 12/12 from seed and the COBs are driven @ 700mA .
I've to say that it is the best blend I've tried ,so far.
Amazing vigor .

Hey SDS. Curious on your setup. How close are your LES in order to get a good mix or spectrum? Or are they just hung high in a reflective tent? Separate dimmers? Allways like your posts

I've used one Galaξ* Led grow light ,but instead of 6x Vero 29
this device has 4x CLU048-1212C4-303H6M3-F1 Version 6 and 2x CLU048-1212C4-303M2M2-F1 Version 6.
The heat sink that the 6 COBs are installed is 40 cm long and 16 cm wide .
The panel is not hanged that high ( due to low If =700 mA ) inside a 75 cm x 75 cm reflective tent .
No separate dimmers.

*Galaξ is a LED grow light designed and assembled by -only-myself ,for a local grow-shop ,here in Greece.
( Just imagine what I'm going through ...
One man versus a lab full of parts and frenzy customers on a long waiting list...
LED grow lights have infested my dreams ...They are becoming a nightmare ! )
